If you're talking about more than just SL...
I met my wife online, back in good old 1983.
She's not in SL, though. She's into EQ and Facebook these days.

The 2 people I know in RL & SL I met first in RL. One introduced me to SL and the other is a co-worker who told me about the company's island.

I have met two people in RL, and both turned after a while out to be a real disappointment to their online persona. Both I knew for quite a while. One actually deserves a stronger term than disappointing because shortly after meeting him, I learned through various sources and his own actions that he's been telling me crap for over a year. Needless to say, my sociable side cooled down quite a lot after that.

Meeting people from SL shouldn't be a big deal. If it is then you're doing it wrong.
We have webcams in this day and age. No need for scary blind dates etc. Although be warned - the webcam can still tell lies about things like complexion and age. ![]() |

If other online environments count, then I met a lot of people back in the scrolling text MUD days. We used to have meets, which I enjoyed enormously. Putting faces to people you feel you already know very well is a real highlight.
The only SL user who I've met in RL is the person who introduced me to it, but a forum member, who lives quite near to me, says that she will surprise me soon at a place that I frequent. I'm looking forward to that - I hope it happens. _____________________

I met A girl in 2006 in SL.(Charity Colville). we started dancing and hit it off really good.. Weeks later we started our own business together.
We talked on the phone and skype all the time.. She lived in another state about 2,000 miles away. After being together for close to a year In-World I decided to Fly to her state and meet face to face. After meeting her and spending 2 weeks together . I went home and Put my SL business up for sale to gather up some moving money. I moved down to be with her in 1 month from the time I went back home.. It has been close to 2 years that we have been together in Real life. Soon to be married I lucked out and found the person I want to spend the rest of my life with . I have also met up with several Others in RL that I have met in SL.. Lots of great people in SL.. _____________________

I have, and they were kool, they also have the same opinion as me in regards to me "oh gone are the good ol days" thread I havn't yet met a partner in SL but i have met a mate, and might meet another in the near future what re your experiences? Myself, I discovered I'm something of a SLebrity when I mentioned in my 1st Life profile, "If you're ever around CCC, I'm the guy with the black widescreen Thinkpad with the Yosemite Park bear sticker on the lid." About two weeks later on campus, seemed like everyone recognized me from my SL profile. Turned out to be an unexpected way to meet folks that go to the same college when I am on campus, since most terms it's rare for me to have any classes on campus to begin with. |

only regarding work, I have done some inworld contracts that lasted months, to even close to a year in the longest. In those cases, yes we did have to meet face to face to discuss the proposed business plans. Which was great, they paid for the airfare and hotels in all the cases.
I have zero interest in socially meeting people from SL. I am not big with the SL is SL, I jusy have yet to meet many Canadians, especially from my city or anywhere even close. |

(And really, aren't we meeting all SL people in "RL?" We just happen to be meeting them via a computer at the time) That's why I prefer the terms "online" and "offline" - both are real to me...just a different medium of communication with others ![]() _____________________
