I complained to my neighbour about his red banner "No-Entry" barrier and he told me he that he is desperate to get rid off it but can't find a way to turn it off I tried to help him but couldn't see how to do it.
How do these things work? How do you turn them on or off?
Answers greatly appreciated

Right click on the land, and select About Land, the the Access tab. Turn of any restrictions. Also see the Ban tab to see who is currently banned for whatever reason.
There are other ways of bringing up the About Land window, but let's keep it simple.
Ah ban lines!! Hate them!

edit land tab
make sure its not 'set to group only' 'access list' is not set (it can be empty and will ban everyone but owner) and none of the restrict access things are set

Thanks for the replies. We've done everything suggested but the no-entry barriers are still there.
The only clue is that earlier their was an entry in the access file. This was deleted and for the next few minutes the barriers had gone. However they returned again without anything else being changed.
This is a real mystery. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Hi Eliver, I'd like to help you figure this out. Can you tell us where the parcel is? If privacy is a concern, you can either PM me here on the forums, or IM me inworld. - Ava

Mystery solved.
Taking out the names in the access file did do the trick.
The problem was that the neighbor had several separate but adjacent parcels. Removing the names from the access list from one didn't affect the others. When he cleared the access names from all of his parcels the horrid no-entry banners disappeared.
I think there must be many parcel owners who unwittingly have anti-social no-entry banners because they have put names in their access list. Perhaps we ought to tell them, rather than suffering in silence
Thanks for all your help

I find a lot of people don't realize that putting people on the access list and checking the box to enable it also bans anyone NOT on the list. And of course there are those who DO mean to ban everyone, which is their right. The funny ones are the people who purposely ban everyone, but have all the stuff they want private way up in the air... not realizing the ban lines only go about 50m above ground level!

Ban lines are the next most useless and annoying thing in SL after rotating ads. Shoe ass is #3.

couldnt care less about snooping in your property. but it would be nice to move from point a to point b without having to navigate side to side or fly to 100m just to cross your banlined 128m primland hey.

Someone here made a brilliant comparison between "old money" and "new money" in SL that applies here. Wish I had bookmarked it. Anyway, to summarize they observed that a lot of older residents put a lot of time into their builds and even very well known, successful residents left their banlines off because they were proud of their work and interested in contributing to and developing a community. Then you have the newer folks who buy a square lot, throw up a prefab, privacy fence, and an access list just because they can.

claim? wtf are you on about 'claim'? you love to reduce everything to 'rights'. you also have the right to allow public passage thru your primland as well. since you choose not to, i can assume the only reason is because you just like being a cunt. I guess then you choose to reduce every thing to entitlements. But then considering your other posts, you do feel entitled to the fruits of someone else's labors. Sorry, but I left my sense of entitlement behind when I stopped wearing diapers. I pay enough to support those who feel entitled in RL, I sure as hell am not gonna do it in SL. And really Nina, the crude insults are beneath you.

only a right knob would expect people to pay a toll to tread over primland because its his 'right' then argue 'entitlement'.

It comes down to a simple principle I was taught when I was young. If it is not your land, you do not enter it, unless you are invited. I don't tread on other people's private land, I expect the same courtesy. And since many here seem not to have ever been taught courtesy, banlines are a reasonable alternative.

following my initial posting, this comment suggests that it is expected of me to 'pay tier' to walk over some tools scattered primland. From: Chris Norse When you pay my tier, you can cross my land, otherwise, you have no claim.

youd feel good about yourself putting up banlines on primland for no other reason than being a knob, because theres nothing to protect there it offers no privacy on your primland, all it does is inconvenience anyone trying to navigate. but because its 'youre right' and because people dont pay you tier, anyone that points out what a total fucking dick you are for doing such a thing has issues with 'entitlement'. I respect private land, you don't that is what this entire argument is about. Doesn't matter if it is a 16m plot or a 16000m plot if it isn't mine, I have no business being on it for any reason if I am not invited.

I absolutely agree that you have the right to bar entry to your land in SL, Chris. It doesn't make you any of the nasty words a certain person has called you. For several reasons, there is just a different understanding of "private property" in SL than we see in RL. (1) Exploration is encouraged, but is not possible in most places without crossing over privately held lands. (2) The default settings for land are to allow everyone access. (3) The generally unreal feeling of SL gives people the feeling that it is not really an invasion... that exploring someone's land is more like exploring their web site. (4) New people come into SL without ever being told that going on someone else's land is a bad thing. It's not mentioned in either the TOS or the Community Standards. (5) Many or even most landholders have no problem with people crossing their parcels or even staying to explore. This is exactly why we can ban others from our land, so that people who DO wish to keep their land for themselves (which is their right) have the ability to do so. I find much of the objection to ban-lines is not about lack of access to a certain parcel, but rather to the ridiculously ugly way LL has implemented them. If the viewer just had a way to turn them off, making the barrier invisible, I expect most people would cease to have a problem with them. There are a couple of JIRA tickets relating to ban-lines, but neither seems to address allowing the user to optionally turn off viewing them. (Some people want them not just viewable, but viewable from a greater distance... mainly to avoid them when flying in a vehicle.) It seems such a simple thing, I'm surprised it's not an option in the Client menu, where you can already turn off viewing of various things.

Calling someone a cunt, a knob and a total fucking dick is not necessary here to get your point across. Please save that kind of rude talk for ad cutters.
