Not to say I told you so but, people told me I was stupid and overreacting, when the Lindens published our profiles on the public web, and I stated it was only a matter of time before the spammers connected the dots and started spamming our accounts from outside of SL.

I do hope they can get this thing stopped for you Danielle. You have done nothing wrong. You were just chosen for harassment for no other reason than for someone to get their jollies from it.

I've recieved over 25,000 direct emails in 5 hours to an email address I had listed in my profile from *********** [email=Linden@lsl.lindenlabs.com]Linden@lsl.lindenlabs.com[/email] where ********* is a random 12 digit number that changes with every email.


This is beyond cute and funny. Is this going to stop anytime soon?

I can't mute the object, these are not IM's anymore, they're direct emails from LL's address.

If you've turned off having IMs sent to your email, then SL isn't sending them, and they are being sent from the outside directly to you. The From email address is irrelevant - anyone can put any email address in the From field.

To be honest, I've no idea what you can do about it except wait it out until the person gets fed up of doing it. I understand that you need to use an email address in SL, and the person will likely hit any that you use, so changing it won't help - in fact it could even encourage the person. If I were on your end of it, I'd create a new emails address for personal use, and, since what's happening is illegal, I'd be looking into what I could do on legal grounds - agencies for that sort of thing, for instance.

I'd also be exmaining the IP address that they are coming from, and trying to get some satisfaction that way - or try to have them filtered.

As horrible as this is- once the actual LL gets it settled I think it may be a criminal offense, right? I mean this is way over the top here - and using LL's name has got to be actionable by them! They are being hurt here too- not just you - co maybe they will take upon themselves to take action- they have bigger guns then us end users.

Change the email address for your SL account. Just get another box from gmail using another name, and close IM to email before-hand. Do you have a group your customers can use to communicate?

Hi Danielle. Sorry for the harrassment you're experiencing, as well as your RL stress.

If these are now just email, that's actually good news, since you can just add the sender or the server they're using to your email program's "spam filter" (or "junk mail" filter) and never see this stuff again.

The address you give above "lsl.lindenlabs.com" is not only not LL's address, it isn't even properly formatted -- it would not work if anyone tried to send email to it. Your spam filter may accept it though, since they just work on pattern matching, and that may solve this part of your problem. If not, you can call your email ISPs support line and have someone look closer at the full headers from the email; there is probably a server or real email address in there that they can tell you to give to your email program's spam filter.

There are also autism groups in SL so maybe you can talk with an adult w/this diagnosis and see what they would have wanted and needed as a child? So sorry that you have too much stress in your life for this to happen but your husband is no man. A real man is so much more than that and its offensive to the good ones out there that I know. Not trying to be mean just stating my opinion since you put it out there.

Um, this may seem over simplified...but can't you just mark them as junk so they get filtered out? Or mark them as spam? It definitely sounds like an outside job....not from with-in SL... but even still.... it's an email spam and you should be able to block it. I think I would absolutely go through the ceiling if that were happening to me tho...I feel for you. ((((hugs)))))

As for the rest of your angst.......you're not alone sweety. Personally a know 3 families with autistic children....and one of my good friend's husband is a special ed. teacher who's expertise is in working with autistic children. And let me just tell you.... they are some of the most amazing children. There's a book out....I forget the author, but she is autistic and managed to somehow overcome the social limitations.....she wrote 2 books... I'd look them up... "Nobody Nowhere" and then "Somebody Somewhere" They are all about her inward struggle with autism.

Your husband will come around.... it's hard for any parent to have any child that they perceive as less than perfect. But I'm sure the good qualities that you saw in him when you married him, are still there....and he loves his son. The best thing for both of you is to eductate yourselves on this condition...and love the hell out of your son.

Also....as an aside....one of the interesting things that is being considered about what autism really is (this I learned from my teacher friend)....is as human beings have evolved...our brains have slowly, over time....been fine tuning our abilities. You will often find that children with autism have one amazing capability that seems to go above and beyond the normal human ability. He may have intensely acute hearing....or have a photographic memory.... or whatever. But, it is now being considered that what autism really is.....is evolutions hiccup in that process of perfecting our abilities. While the brain has mastered one thing to an almost supernatural level.... it has had to compramise in other areas. They are starting to believe that autism is the beginning stages of us as humans evolving into a much higher functioning being. When you consider that possibility....how amazing it is....you have one of the golden children in our world. ((hugs))

I have to agree with this. My husband is a complete ass and even he is a great father to our kids. The only good thing about him,lol.

I recall someone saying in a thread a long time ago that profiles could be accessed without being in world. Do you have the website address for these? (If it's public knowledge...not asking for something if it's not supposed to be public.)

Hi Danielle - A few weeks ago, I was hit by a non-stop stream of spam IMs coming from a number of objects that were impossible to identify and too many to mute by name - object names were just long, random strings of numbers. My screen was just covered with objectionable text messages coming all the time and my email box filled up with the ones being sent when I wasn't online.

I contacted Live Help about it and they got on top of it pretty quickly - so I agree with you, kudos to the staff manning Live Chat.

One thing I did to keep going temporarilly was to go into Edit/Preferences and change the number of message lines displayed on screen - can't remember which tab option right now - but I cut it down to about 4 lines. This left me with a stream of garbage displaying at the bottom of the screen - but I could at least live with that, whilst Linden Support got it sorted.

Don't let the griefers get to you Danielle - they are the ones in serious need of help - you're doing great.

My son's father sucked...he stayed in denial for 9 YEARS, even went so far to take a job where he would be away from the home environment Monday thru Friday. We have since divorced and moved 2 1/2 hours away from him two months ago-----as of today, he has never come to visit Noah. Calls him on the phone and pays support, but that's it

Who does it say the sender is on the email? That is, what's the part _before_ @lsl.lindenlabs.com? Is it always 'linden' or does that change?

In particular, does it fit the format shown at http://rpgstats.com/wiki/index.php?title=LlEmail ?

Danielle, First thing.. don't back down from the griefers. They really are no more than the bully in the playground who, once they get popped hard in the mouth, will find easier game or hang themselves if they don't.

Second thing: If you ever get email spam like the random number stuff you were getting, use the power of your email program to your advantage. Most email programs allow you to create "rules" that you define. Create a rule that sends all email from "*@lsl.lindenlabs.com" to a special folder , or straight to the garbage during the time they are still happening. Even better would be "* Linden@lsl.lindenlabs.com", that would block only messages from anone with a linden lastname. The * character is a wildcard and is a very powerful tool for email filtering, so no matter what number (or name) these morons come up with you will never be bothered by it. Redirecting legit customer messages is a bit more tricky, but can probaby be done with notecards, or by hosting a small webage with contact info on that.
