Is there an ideal target size to try and control inventory? I am currently at just over the 3000 items range, mainly due to a large texture folder for my building activities, and can see that increasing rapidly as I source more items. I try and work diligently to keep the inventory down, deleting unwanted items, but was beginning to wonder if I am being over efficient?
Apologies if this topic has been discussed elsewhere, search didnt display anything relevant.

3,000 items is almost a dream in slimness, as every builder can and will assure you. Most of them start out with at least 10 k and a looooot of people have way more stuff in their inventories...

3000 is almost empty indeed Wat I try to do though, is keeping my inventory around 6000 items, which is pretty low for a builder. But since often textures are the bigger part of the total count, it is easy to control as well. Simply put them in texture organizers, make safe copies of those organizers, and delete the textures from inventory. Works like a charm for me. My organizers are holding the textures by category, so it is very simple to find back a texture.

I used to apply a strict limit of 20k items but that has gone out the window this year. I seriously need to back up my items and to clear up genereally. Currently at 38K but 10k of that is probably trash.

At least that is what I learned from old threads about that. This is the main reason I keep my inventory so low, already am on a low end machine

Thanks for all your comments, I guess I don't need to worry, but I will still be ruthless in keeping my inventory tidy - famous last words haha.

I have about 9000, about half of which is textures. I've been nagging at my partner to clean hers out because it was close to 15000, she's worked hard at it the last few days and got it down to nunder 14000. Looking at some of the figures in this thread, I guess I owe her an apology .

Over 22K items for this builder... And I try to weed it down to below 20K every so often.

Well I'm sitting at around 25,000 and I can feel some lag.. I think key is The Less the Better.. You can always do stuff such as deleteing all the duplicate landmarks.. If you tend to shop at the same places a lot and they put a LM in each package they add up.. Search for say Main, Store etc and see how many dups you have..

LOL Well I have around 8700. I thought I was pushing it seriously! I delete something everytime I log into sl. If you only have 3000 right now, I would suggest that you do some fine organizing of what you have before it get's really crazy!

I'm pushing 18K and really due for a purge. My goal as early as last year was 8K or thereabouts, but I doubt I'll ever see that again without some catastrophic asset server issue. I'd *like* to get it under 10K, but I'd be quite happy with 12-13K. Now, if I just had some motivation to pause shopping and resume sorting/boxing/passing/purging... From: MoxZ Mokeev I would suggest that you do some fine organizing of what you have before it get's really crazy! That doesn't really help with the amount though. I'm uber-organized, but there's still just too damn much of it.

I've worked really hard for 2 years to keep my inventory under 5k, going through ruthless pruning sprees whenever it started edging to close to the limit.
A few months ago I finally, reluctantly shifted my limit to 6k. I've been corrupted by Seven Seas fishing (both the fish and the accessory packages) and an ever-expanding inventory in my store.

From: Derek Tafler Thanks for all your comments, I guess I don't need to worry, but I will still be ruthless in keeping my inventory tidy - famous last words haha. I'm with you...I LOVE organizing and have a hard rule to NOT let my inventory exceed 5,000. It usually runs more around 3500-3800 on average. AND I'm a builder with a gazillion textures. However, as has already been mentioned, there are lots of tips and tricks to keep inventory under control. Those Halloween hunts really made my inventory zoom...it will take me awhile to weed through that, but at least I'm weeding from a smaller starting place.

maybe one day I will go in and clean it out... maybe... lol I hear ya on that, Im at 27k (almost) I spend about 10 min a day cleaning, but then I spend 1hr a day building new stuff and taking into inventory... I wish there was a way to find duplicate textures, just named differently.. I have a lot of that stuff.. my inventory is mostly textures, 10% clothing (although most of textures are for clothing) the rest shit named object I forgot to name....Oh wait I have some furniture and stuff, but I don't have many freebie stuff.. and I have a lot of scuplty patterns...animations for building.. and a few gestures.. which I miostly delete cause I just dont use gestures like some people do. And that is not counting what I have boxed and forgotten what was inside.. I could exceed 40k im sure if I emptied those..
