...Then again, there are people like me that just have no clue how to describe themselves. My profile has a lil sumpin sumpin in it, but doesn't really describe the person that I am much. At least not in my opinion.

Maybe get some friends to write blurbs for you. Your profile could read like a book jacket :)

I think I have a new project for this evening...I'll re work my profile and try to make it more interesting keeping in mind all the tips posted here :)

Me too! Tonight or tomorrow, I'm doing a profile overhaul... It's been neglected far too long. It's almost like our own cel number, we tend to forget it since we don't often call ourselves.

Hey, that sounds like a fabulous idea!! I'm fine with my profile to tell you the truth. I mean sure I could revamp it and there are some great thoughts in here, but I'm not sure I want to change much just yet. I really do need to fight my writers block and finish my poem though cause I really would like to get that in there. :)

Funny thing is, my profile even mentions the general area I'm from and what games I play online as well as what names I always go by in those games.

I think I even mentioned RL details on the Forums? Cant remember. Doesnt matter. Good luck finding me or getting here!! And God Help you if you do! ;)

Question about Forum Profiles (excuse the temporary derailment):

When one looks at someone's profile here within the Forums, there are five categories:

Signature
Forum Info
Contact Info
Additional Information
Group Memberships

What is a "Group Membership"? I keep seeing "_____" is not a member of any public groups....

Thank you...

I like to see bewbz!

OK, things I look for ...
1- Interesting stories or poems. I may not ever say "Hi" but I read profiles almost as a habit now. It's something to do.

2- Interest, fovorites, pet peeves, whatever little things that show me you are a person. Just business/bots/models and the like who would ratther be left alone will usually have blanks all the way through.

3- At least a few cluse to availability and -- if not hetro -- sexual pref. I may be a letch and a pervert but I am not a home wreaker :) And nothing feels quite the same as a cold shoulder from a lesbian. I guess they see it the same way as if a man were being approached by another man. Personally I just take it as a compliment and go on with my life .... but now I'm getting way off topic

4- Native language. If I am chatting with someone who is struggeling to write a complete sentence, i would like to know if they are the idiot or I am for only speaking one language.

5- a list of sexual referances. Hey, I don't have sex with just anyone!
JUST KIDDING!

You know I would sleep with anyone who stays still long enough :)

It is totally your choice!. It's also my choice who I choose to spend time with. :)

I personally don't like to spend too much time with people that are cagey about who they really are. In the same way that I wouldn't enjoy spending time with somebody in RL that went around with a bag on their head. It's their choice though and I'd not force them to take it off. But I understandably wouldn't want to hang out with them.

oops clarification time. the first half of that was for you 2k, the second half was in general.
**************bottom half is in general not meant to you :)**************

A person's profile should give you an idea who you are dealing with. if that person doesn't feel comfortable sharing the fact they have a dog, 2.5 kids and has a wife and or husband, thats their choice. to judge someone based solely on what they put in their profile, IMO, speaks more about the quester than the questee.

oh and yes, i can be found, if you know my full rl name GoogleEarth, puts a big assed target on where i live, so yeah let the stalkin begin :/

Oh but I like the bottom halves!

and I agree with you. I once put in my profile that I liked to kill people and eat their livers. Nobody talked to me for days. :(

I'd just like to put another vote in for people filling out their languages on the Interests part of the profile. I will ALWAYS look at a person's profile before approaching them. I won't approach them if I do not see a language that I speak in there.

So I speak English and German. If I see someone with "Spanish and Italian" in their profile, then i will save both of us the time and effort and not try to engage that person in conversation.

Everything else in the profile is negotiable, as far as I am concerned :)

My 2nd life tab has a quote I liked at some point...guess I will have a look see what needs re-doing too ;)

Languages are listed - and interests- like meet, buy stuff like that. FL has the books and music and movies I like. My picks though guys- other than one of Pocket's store and Shiraz has my loves and friends in it. But no threats for messing with them- they can handle themselves :)

I like reading things that may point out commonalities - like the books we may have in common and such. I don't mind reading about folks' RL- I am not a stalker. Don't think I need a pic right off- but that is their choice and no business of mine if they have one there or not. Eventually, I do love to meet the face of the folks I call friends. If they don't trust me enough to show me a picture it makes me wonder why, like what about me made them choose NOT to show me their pic- but then again, many people are a lot more private than I am and it may be that this is a normal mode of behaviour.

All in all- put something in it!

Whatever someone wishes to put in their SL tab is fine by me. I do agree something should be there. As far as picks go, I'm not big on the putting of people in it, I prefer to see favorite places. I don't care what's in the RL tab, I never look at them.

My biggest pet peeve are people who put nothing in their profile....I know its their choice, but just put a little somethin! If they are new its acceptable, but I see a lot of AV's from early last year and before that are out and about with great looking avatars and a totally empty profile.

I totally agree! It bugs me. It also bugs me when people do not have an updated pic of their av. I met someone the other day and the pic in his profile was an old av. That really bugged me.

QFT

I read profiles often. I look at the whole thing except the rl tab.. ok, sometimes I do take a look there but not always. I look at the the 2nd Life tab and the groups the person joined. It gives me an idea about the individual likes and dislikes and what makes them tick. I don't really get upset or get offended at anything I see in a profile, if I don't like something I just close the window and move on.

My profile has a quote that hopefully tells something about me.. as well as a couple of facts that will help people tell what I like. It does not change very often but neither do I.

Yea. The worst are the ones that, as others said, include "Don't F**K WITH ME" or the ones that read like really really horrible Goth Poems.

I think by stating "single-not looking", "here just to have fun", "married in RL", and so on would give an idea of what you're about in RL. No sense talking the drudgery of Marriage to someone who's single. Stating you have yungin's at home gives other parents something to chat with you about.

It all gives a new person or you something to talk about and a frame of reference.

I realized all of this talking to someone who wasnt even close to being born in the 70s and they had no clue what the Gas Rationing of the 70s was or even that it happened.
I think that people who do not want to put their RL into their profile - are not looking to give you any frame of reference for their RL for the basis of discussion. That is a valid personal choice.

A good friend of mine added that to the very bottom of her profile, it says something along the lines of "If you have read this far into my profile then congratulations you win a free set of eyes from my store (seriously, send me a notecard)". I believe she's had it there for about 6 months and says only 1 person bit at it.

I read that too...Oh, LOL...I know who that is! I thought you said you met someone once...

I look at people's profiles all the time, particularly if they IM me with a question (it's silly but I like to put a "face" to the name, and also tells me if I need open babelfish).

The one thing I admit raises an eyebrow is the aforementioned hostile profiles. "Don't this, don't that, etc" really makes me pause. It's often how I feel around signs in shopping malls that insist on telling me not to misbehave. I wasn't really planning on misbehaving, and I feel patronized when someone feels compelled to tell me not to. And I sincerely doubt that anyone who is going to behave in an untoward fashion will suddenly say "Oh, I was going to spam this person with a few hundred sex club notecards, but gosh, she says here in her profile that she doesn't care for that sort of thing".

The one request I have in my profile is the "please send a notecard as IMs cap" line--really, I think most new people don't realize that IMs usually get capped for merchants, fair much daily.

Finally, for the 2K's of the world, liver munching is fine, so long as one writes a good sculpty importer.
