I've actually gone home with a pocket full of little post-its with place names written on them because I saw something on here and got excited about it.

I do that too. Thought I was the only one!

There should be a group for bored housewives trolling for people to talk to. I'd join it in a heartbeat. So far in world I've managed to talk to 3 neighbors and one visitor and open a jewelry shop but I'm like the op, I can never seem to find people online and I pretty much spend all of my time online sitting in my workshop making stuff or shopping alone.

I'm not very good at making friends in real life either- one of the things I'm actually trying to improve in Second Life- people skills. It doesn't seem to be working, but at least I have fun puttering aroudn in my own fashion.

I do it too. In fact (shhh), I have SL installed on my work computer, and briefly go on to check IMs or notecards, and to also notecard myself about interesting locations or individuals.

Also, when a citizen interests me, or harasses me, I search them in-world at work...see what they are all about.

:)

There's another rp western town I believe. I think it's called Sigil or something.. I met some indians there and the sheriff. You even get some free clothes at the teleport in.

Let's have coffee!!

As one middle-aged person to another, I would love to sit down with you and have coffee sometime. I know a great little coffee shop - and it's almost always deserted! I'll IM you next time I'm in world. :)

Have you considered playing as a Tiny? If you are looking for PG fun and friendly people head over to Raglan shire and check it out (or any of the other tiny hangouts). You don't have to be a tiny to go look around there, but if you like it the avis aren't too expensive.

When I am in the mood for pure fun, not getting hit on, and a generally stress free hilarious good time I put on my tiny badger avi and head out into the wide world. (Wynx has several kittie avis too).

Basically that's it....I'm kind of dull. My avatar looks fine, kind of like me, just much younger and cuter. I've tried to make her more exciting, but wild hair and too much makeup looks stupid on me (my opinion.) I'm apprehensive to spend money on clothes, heck...I got lots of nice freebies and I still wear the same things day in and day out.

Ditch the boring av and change species, shape whatever. Gets very different responses from those you meet.

Personally I love the ones from Abstract Avatars - non sexy, non gender specific, always get people talking as to "what you are" and "why you are that"

I am pretty dull and often bit gloomy myself.
First few months or more it seemed like if I was building, when I did explore it seemed like most of places were empty or full of people who weren't very friendly.
I did actually make friends at this one place I use to camp at it. It was fun place and I could get few L to for texture uploads. Yet then it changed like most things do and lucky by then I made few good friends.
Hang in there, more you explore and get to know what is out there it will be easier but even if you've been around for while there will always be more to learn and explore.

hi there
looks like you have a lot of ppl replying, and I am betting many more that do not reply, but are im'ing you

I will add myself in here as well, if you ever want to just chat, or explore give me a shout.

looking for places to visit? check out the Movix Media sim
(just go to map button in game, then type movix media in the location finder box thing)

It is a city in the process of being built, also has an office building, and a club (not the usual type SL club) so hey if you want to see it, drop by.
If you want a "guided tour" heh, give me a shout.
Heck I might just give you a shout in game anyway, you definitely do not sound dull to me.

anywho, good luck to you and to everyone who is feeling the same way you are.

(the invite to visit the sim or have a tour, or just chatter is open to anyone who is reading this thread, I am always open to making new friends)

(warning though... I do tend to confuse people LOL)

Or you could really play up the "housewife" image. I know that Marlys and Curl Up and Dye both have hilarious outfits for the angry/bored housewife (the Marlys one comes with a valium pill to carry around, and the Curl Up and Dye outfits have scripted rolling pins, curling irons, etc that you can use as real weapons) and I've seen hairs out there with curlers stuck in them; it can be really funny if you want to! Then you could wander around, say, Gotham City (a Superheroes Role Play sim) and shriek "help! help! I'm being attacked!" etc... make yourself into a HouseWife Heroine!

Chiming in- it took me signing up at least three different accounts over the last couple of years to finally find my 'hook' in SL. I had looong stretches of "what do I do now?". I'd open up the big map and try and find populated areas, hoping that a crowd meant something interesting going on. I don't recommend doing that though, I saw things I still can't forget.

I tend to the shy side of things, in other MMO-style games (hate to use the G word but you know what I mean) I would only group if absolutely neccessary. That habit followed me to SL, but I've managed to over come it. The even search has been the answer for me, I went to a lot of the live music events and started seeing some of the same avatars. Funnily enough this was the cause for some ribbing from my wife-

"what are you doing?"
"I am listening to this guy play guitar."
"you're just standing there though, are those people dancing?"
"yes, they're dancing, I'm standing."
"wow, great game, and I thought that everquest thing was boring."

- although she finally came on board in May and has had so much fun she opened her own shop selling gestures that she makes.

One of the best parts of SL for me has been finding a nice crowd at one of the Dublin pubs. If you keep poking around places you'll find a group that you click with, and that changes everything. One last thing- for me anyway I've noticed that what a person's av looks like is insignificant in a lively room with chat and gestures flying. I like to joke that I needed a high end computer and graphics card to spend most evenings speed reading a text chat window :)

I would have scoffed at this whole idea of playing a role or different av way back when I started. But lately I've noticed that when I "play myself" I'm kinda dull and shy. When I become a cigar puffing lizard I'm fun! Or at least I'm having fun.

Tinies, eh? Hmmm......

Agrees....

I mean... my avatar is better formed as me in RL. My avatar is blond, while I am a bruinette....

But when it comes down how she acts... she is me!!

Your av is as boring as you want it to be.

You can be ANYTHING here, or ANYONE. You just have to think different, if you need to.

You can be a damn fine, fierce-looking dragon (see Isle of Wyrms).

You can be a John Wayne look-alike (ok, that will take a LOT of work on your av, but still).

You can be the sexiest, most desirable damn woman ever! (True, the competition for that is serious here, but also still. You can certainly be in the running.)

You can be GOD! (I actually met an av named Christ Something, who goes around with a robe, a crown of thorns -- and an AK-47: He deals with griefers.)

One of the things SL is for is fantasy-fulfillment. Consider your fantasies, and go from there.

And if, in the end, you want to be in SL something rather like the person you are in RL, well, maybe you are actually more together than you thought, and more together even than the more flamboyant among us?

the main thing is, enjoy. Whatever that means for you.

I had a great time chatting with Lostmedia. He came to visit my place in Granville, said my builds weren't bad.

Then just as I was getting ready to log off, someone else IM'd me who saw my post.

I am off now for the night, but I want to thank you all for your kind words, and I will start doing some IM'ing in the next day or so.

maybe I'll get a tattoo tomorrow....walk on the wildside.

p.s. One thing I'm interested in is possibly doing roleplaying. Someone mentioned western stuff, that's a possibility. I know people do vampire stuff....I have been a Dracula fan since a teenager, as in books and stuff (vampires, warewolves, zombies.) What exactly happens in roleplaying stuff on SL, and I really am only interested in PG stuff, if that's possible.

if hasnt been mentioned already go to the Role Play Resource Center, im me in world and ill give You the LM(landmark) plus a few others :)

There is so much to choose from in a character role!

If you can't see an opening for the character you would like to be then suggest it to us !

I'm boring too :p I used to hang out a lot at the lucky chairs in clothes shops, and made some friends there because there are people who watch chairs for hours hoping to win something. Now I shop a lot instead, but shopping is getting boring (especially with the stale transactions and non-deliveries), so I'm trying to figure out what to do. I haven't the faintest idea where to go.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
