Basically that's it....I'm kind of dull. My avatar looks fine, kind of like me, just much younger and cuter. I've tried to make her more exciting, but wild hair and too much makeup looks stupid on me (my opinion.) I'm apprehensive to spend money on clothes, heck...I got lots of nice freebies and I still wear the same things day in and day out.
I work on building a house....then I delete it. Then I start again. I don't accomplish anything.
When I go exploring, no one seems to be around.
I have no interest in dating, but I also don't know how to find people with similar interests. I looked under the "search" function, but I don't find anyone else who is a "frumpy, middle-aged housewife, wasting time on SL while she should be doing laundry," lol.
So, basically, if you are kind of like me (the frumpy middle-aged housewife,) not sure what to do, and want some company to hang out with, feel free to IM me in game. I like to explore, have no interest in "sex-beds," maybe would hang out in a country dance place (do that in RL,) like books, cats, flowers, and would like to explore the world of wild fashions and maybe try on a "temporary tattoo" or a piercing.
Or if anyone has suggestions on "freeing" myself, feel free to post. Or are you a dull avi like me?

I too am kind of dull. I've got a default skin, a very standard looking, shortish avatar with little more interesting than spectacles. The clothes I wear on the grid have been out of fashion for 150 years. That said, a sort of metaversal existence seems to have been thrust upon me - bookish and antiquated though it may be, I rather like it. I'd recommend the 19th century experience on the grid - in specific, the Caledon Library. Yes, a library. Say Desmond sent you, and see why.

well what do you like to do? or always wanted to do RL but either dont have the time or funds or know how? me? i like to shop, and i go mall hopping. hunting out good deals is fun for me, as well as motorcycle riding, dancing(Swing@ Paradise Ballroom, Sturgis, Mooz for the cyclin) and haging at the Botanical garden(now that i finally got to see it). there are also awesome builds, like the Science Museum(?) where someone built an awesome planetarium, it all depends on what You like.

IMHO SL is a great place to do all the stuff you want to do but can't. That doesn't necessarily mean sex, either. If you like country western bars, find one and meet some people there. Just walk up and say hi, or howdy, or whatever you say in a place like that. Really, what's the absolute worst that can happen? Someone says something mean to you on the internet? Even that's pretty unlikely. You'll probably meet up with some really cool people who share your interests and want to hang out. In addition, try some new interests. ALL tattoos in SL are temporary, so go find one you like and try it on for size. Try some role playing (which doesn't have to involve sex). There are some pretty cool western rp sims. You might get gunned down in the streets of Tombstone, but you can't actually die in SL. If you are interested in building or scripting, learn to do that. Check out events and see if there is one that catches your eye.
Tell you what - if I see you online, I'll stop and say hi and show you around a little. I promise I won't try to have sex with you, lol. Not even a hug.
I refuse to believe that anyone is dull. Everyone has the ability to shine inside them somewhere. You just have to dig around until you find it.

Awww, Trout, that is just so dang SWEET!
Idunna, what I think is great about SL is that at first you might start out thinking, "well, gee, here I am, I'm not all crazy n stuff, so what do I do?" and eventually, you try something out (just one crazy outfit or one crazy underwater jaunt with mermaids, etc) and you start getting ideas. It's sort of hard to let our minds out of the tedium that is RL, but once we get the hang of exploring our OWN minds, we can do anything we want in SL. I was a crow for 3 days and loved it.

The very first thing to do.........QUIT BEATING UP ON YOURSELF!!!
And then put on the clothes you are most comfortable in and think of what you like in RL. You mentioned County dancing........I know there a lots of clubs in SL that cater to the county folks. Do a search for places and type "country" or "country western"......or try search "Tammy McCoy" (you might try spelling her first name Tammie.........I can't remember which spelling is correct). I don't think she has closed her very successful and fun club.........and she also makes and sells country clothing/boots/hats and many accessories.
Most people who like country also like classic rock.......do a search there too. I can recommend one very fun place that has live DJ's doing 2 hour stints every day starting at 2 pm SL time and running to 10 pm. The crowd is fun and very friendly.......and they frown heavily on any blatant sexual acts or talk.......though it is an adult place with adult talk (just not vulgar or explicit). I can almost guarantee that you will be greeted soon after you enter the club.......only on very rare occassions during exceptionally busy times has any avatar been not greeted by both the Host/Hostess and the DJ. They do everything they can to make everyone comfortable and welcome.
And my last bit of advice......just blurt it out!!! No cares if you make much sense.......it's all mostly mindless silly talk anyway!! LOL Just take a minute to two to get the drift of the open conversation going on and pipe in if you feel like it.........or wait a little longer for the topic to change to something you can contribute to. The conversations are very flowing.........and get ridiculously funny.
The name of the place is "Bubblegum Music Factory". Search for it. Or let me know when you are going to be online (I'm mostly on a little after 8 pm SL time) and IM me or I'll IM you and take you there.

I am a simple man. I have simple tastes. I have no need of all the "look at me" crap. My AV looks just like me; well it's taller and dresses better { before you jump to any "no imagination" conclusions, I have a few avatars, I'm just referring to my everyday one}. Since my taste is simple, people constantly confuse me for a newbie. Apparently the only way people judge your newness is by how flamboyant and expensive your clothes and hair are; I know this isn't always true, as there are a few people on SL with a bit of sense . I must apologize to the individual whom thought he was griefing a noob, have you come down yet?

Idunna DeCuir .. Expect an IM from me too , All i see here is you needing to find something you like here , We all have had that point in our SL lives . Nothing wrong with just wanting to sit around chatting ether .... great fun can be had just shooting the breeze with people who just wanna chill . On the other hand .... SL has everything your mind can think of .... and more . It would be a shame to waste your time here and not get out and live a little .... who's it gonna hurt . Sl to some is just a big portal into a world full of sex , shopping and ...gambling ( had to get it in some how ) ...... But its so much more ... you just have to unlock it . What you need is a old hand ... someone who has seen this place inside and out ..but still manages to get at least one " OMG THATS AWESOME " a day while being here . Judging by your post ( forgive me if im wrong ) you sound like a good laugh , Someone who has a good Sense of Humour ..and is not afraid to laugh at them self .... SL was built for people like you I know you have asked us to supply you with things to do .. or stuff that might make your SL experience better ... but i think the best way to do it is to is to spend time with someone ..and let SL take its road ... no point in pushing ...it will happen . Watch your IM inbox

Idunna..... first thing i suggest is to start building. make things. even if they look stupid, you'll have fun creating your own clothes, jewelry or whatever. heck you might even be naturally skilled and sell some. if you are into cats, go check out the Neko stores and soon enough you'll be surrounded by fellow cat lovers. find any dance place that plays country music and just start chatting with fellow dancers. you'll make friends in no time.

I had a great time chatting with Lostmedia. He came to visit my place in Granville, said my builds weren't bad.
Then just as I was getting ready to log off, someone else IM'd me who saw my post.
I am off now for the night, but I want to thank you all for your kind words, and I will start doing some IM'ing in the next day or so.
maybe I'll get a tattoo tomorrow....walk on the wildside.
p.s. One thing I'm interested in is possibly doing roleplaying. Someone mentioned western stuff, that's a possibility. I know people do vampire stuff....I have been a Dracula fan since a teenager, as in books and stuff (vampires, warewolves, zombies.) What exactly happens in roleplaying stuff on SL, and I really am only interested in PG stuff, if that's possible.

Sort of along the lines of goth, etc, I like to play dress up in witchy apparel. In RL, wicca is something I have a vague interest in, but would probably never explore in depth. However, in SL, I buy lots of clothes relating to things such as wicca, Harry Potter, gypsies, witches, etc etc. and I am a member of a few groups regarding the same. It's loads of fun for me.

Well.... already many people offered to help you. But if you need one more? You can call me... I have been there were you are now. My avatar? It basically didn't change since the time I came to SL and the person who brought me helped me "to shape" me (and no, I am not complaining). But I had a time that I really asked myself what I was doing? I cannot build... I tried to learn it, but it is not things. Making clothes, the same story. I tried it, but well... Exploring is fun, but to a limit. Dancing is also great fun, but again, to a limit. I was very close to leave SL again... Until I found this new hobby in SL.... making pictures. I have great pleasure of using every resource in SL to make the pictures I like. And people say I have made some great things. So don't give up.... SL has something for all of us. And as said, being in SL already means you are not dull!!!! Morwen

a) start a group called "Frump". It's a great word and lots of people will join your group. Have tea mornings; do frump stuff. Offer to clean house for some dark sleazelord and then sell pix of his bondage gear to an SL magazine... set up as Miss Marple and be a frump P.I.
b) don't, whatever you do, worry about being dull. People who post on forums are a tiny tiny, very special minority and they ain't dull. I'm not dull, and I don't really like it - people get scared and run away, or end up feeling small, or something, when talking to me, and that's not good. I can't pretend dullness: big mistake. The Dull are a lot better off!
c) I do so know what you mean about the body fascism thing - some days SL just feels like Bratz Online, and there's a lot of very shallow people and even shallower stuff out there, especially around the sex sims and activities. There's definitely something going on with people who (like you and me by the sound of it) CAN'T use an AV which diverges too far from their real selves - like I said, set up a group for that as an interest. I'd join it.
d) Those people who say "hey just build". I dunno what that's about. I've never built a damn thing, I don't know where to start, and every time I modify something it all goes horribly wrong, so I just conclude builders have a third arm or some sort of computer/brain interface they use to do that with. I try not to feel abd about that and just attempt to chat up natural born builders, who are SL's equivalent of an olympic free-diver with no gag reflex (insert favourete fantasy target here)

There are a few vampire RP sims as well as just vampire hangouts like Transylvania which I have found quite friendly. Some of the RP does have sexual content, but from what I have seen it's down to choice what you join in with and what you feel comfortable doing. I can't comment too much as I don't have time for RP myself so it's only from casual observation while visiting on business or having nights off exploring

lol...this post is cute.
Ok, so what about in RL? Do you feel dull and uninteresting? Because, it's the same thing...in fact, there are even more choices in SL you can do to your AV (self) than in RL...
Heck, I'm an android in SL...I can't do that (yet) in RL. You can actually change your form in SL...something you can't do (in reason) in RL.
Also, the amount of clothing in SL is extremely vast.
Want to see some cool AVs...you'll definitely not be dull with these: do a search for "6ixth Sense" in-world. If you have 1000L to spend, you can have the best AVs on the market. My HAV unit is from 6ixth Sense...all are super high quality, from a super talented artist.
There no excuse to be a Ruth in SL.

If you're interested in western roleplay, I would definitely check out the new Deadwood RP town. It's really fabulous and without all the sex at Tombstone.

You know what just occurred to me? This is the perfect place to get over thinking that you're dull. I log on from work (which is pretty dull). Every day without fail, I see a post and think, "I have GOT to check that out when I get home tonight!" I've actually gone home with a pocket full of little post-its with place names written on them because I saw something on here and got excited about it.
Now I have to go check out Deadwood. I've never tried being a vampire, either. How can you be dull when you have stuff like this at the tips of your fingers!?
