in your inventory, right click on any folder and choose new body part, new shape
this will create a new default shape with your name as the creator

then wear it, go into appearance, and make the changes you want, save as, give it a new name

then in the inventory, right click and set the permission for next owner however you wish to have the

(this method works the same for clothing and other body parts)

See it says "other body parts" so can I make just legs and attach them somehow?

why do people answer a question that has been answered already, with the same info, just worded differently?
Ooops I think I've been guilty of that once or twice.

Be careful, though. If you right click one of the legs you are wearing, you can end up with extra legs.

And you can't get rid of them with a rebake. You need to create an alt.

Haha, see you and I posted at the same time. Okay, I don't think I'm gonna mess with legs.

With sculpted prims you could do that now. People have been posting on forums asking for new business ideas and I couldn't think of any. But perhaps sculpted, modifiable and copyable arms and legs might be an opportunity. I can just see having five extra legs sticking out of your tummy being the next craze for not-quite-newbies!!!!!!

Yeah, that would be a little hard to dance appropriately, I'm sure!

That's how to recreate your shape in one of the OpenSim grids or on a standalone sim too.

Wanna see a neat trick for this?

This made me go "DOH! Why didn't I think of that?"

I'm sorry! I wrote my post while u where writing yours.

erm look at the posting times... awful long time typing...
and it is not just me I see it happen to, I see it happen all over these forums... sometimes the posts are days apart...
sure when the post time is a minute or so apart I chalk it up to posting at the same time... but 5 minutes??? who types that slow??
*shrug* no big deal, was just wondering why folks do it...do they perceive the previous answer(s) are not good enough? or...

"Who types that slow"...?!!
That's not nice! Many people would type that slow! Maybe some ppl are disabled in some way!!?

And as I said before! Not everyone here has English as a first language!
I NEVER post in a thread when I think someone else already answered the question - only If I do I think I have something to ADD.

REALLY! If you want to be a forum-rule police you could do SOOO much better than picking on me - and my post!

I don't know if it has happened to me on this forum, but on another the other day I was almost through typing my reply when the phone rang. Since I was at work and the phone call was work related, I had to take it. (The forum was also work related). About 15 minutes later I was off the phone and finished by reply. I then noticed that while I was on the phone two other people answered the question I was answering.
At least the three of us agreed.

as for insulting by saying who types that slow, that was not an insult.

Lol at this thread.

Anyhow, Rha and the second poster, I didn't understand a thing you said?

Is SL for Dummies helpful, or are you holding any classes?

I mean I can make just new legs if I want to?

did you actually go in world and try the steps I outlined?

If you did you would see that it doesn't give you an option for "legs" it tells you which body parts you can "create"

*shrug*

unless of course your post was tongue in cheek, acting stupid kind of thing...

and yes, I will be holding classes, after the holidays, 4 days a week (part of my job in SL) (not my store, but my job at avatar island)

I've answered an OP before when there were no other posts at the time I began composing mine, then when I posted, sometimes there were a couple prior to mine.

I tend to think...backspace...think of another way to say things, etc. before posting. Others may type faster and just get the answer in while I'm still thinking...lol.

As far as the posts being days apart...I see that as well, in fact to one of mine I previously answered being answered the same way a day or so later. When that happens I think it's that the person didn't read the whole thread before posting.

I know that's what I do a lot...if I see a post I wish to respond to, I do so then. Then when I read the entire post...I see someone else already answered it. No biggie as far as I'm concerned. :)

Ok! never mind! I hate drama!
I actually agree with u about 'posting when the answer is already posted'!
But I wrote my post while u where writing yours! And I wrote it really slow for a lot of reasons!

I guess I am different than most ppl

If that happened to me, when I returned I would have checked the thread in a new window to see if it had gotten any replies and if so, not bother replying (unless I had more info to add, and not just repeat what others had already said)

That's what I should, and sometimes do. Change the reply to read "I agree with ___. In addition you might ____ (or whatever)) At least acknowledge the prior answers, or decide that I had nothing to add and cancel the reply.

But at my desk at work with too much going on it is too tempting to take the easy way.

A tip: the "Preview Post" button also includes updated posts in the "Topic Review" section below the text entry window. (Although I almost always check that, I nonetheless sometimes post redundant information.)

Having two answers is the Irish approach.

I can't explain why others post late but a typical situation for me would be where I am in SL and I will tp to a store, switch to the forums to read posts while the store rezzes, start a post reply, switch back to SL and shop for several minutes, and switch back to the forums to finish my reply.

something I always wondered about, and never tested, and this thread seems to be a good place to ask

does the time stamp register from when you hit the reply button to type in your reply.... or does it register from when you submit reply...

I wonder that myself. I think sometimes when it's me it's because I haven't expressed myself clearly - at least that's the only conclusion I have come to for myself.

There is a cultural barrier, sorry, Olila. It is a joke. A play on words. Because the Irish use the phrase "To be sure".

And I won't say anything more about IQ or EQ because I don't want to get into trouble (which I have done before) because people think I am rude to foreigners who don't understand the nuances of my posts.

You can also create a shape that shows you as creator by opening your inventory and doing create new body parts, new shape, without right clicking a folder. I didn't see that method mentioned.

By the way, does anyone happen to know why people would repost something already posted above?

Such as a question, for example.

Sometimes repeating things is a habit of speech, and Pep's saying that Irish people tend to do this. So it's a cute joke about the repetition in this thread... and a way of saying that repetition is natural, since the Irish are the most natural and unaffected people on Earth.

No, not yet. I don't want to try because I might end with five legs. I WOULD need to attend a class. And I was serious about SL for Dummies as to whether it is a good book or not?

The legs of my avatar are very weird looking, imo. I'd like to fix those one of these days. I have a lot of other stuff I still have to fix tho too, and tomorrow is Christmas Eve and then lots of Christmas things to do, so I don't have time to catch up right now on the other things I need to fix as well.

But is SL For Dummies worth getting?
