I thought I'd delve into the scary realm of avatar shape creation... It's actually working quite well - I like having the option of a female av who doesn't stand 6ft in her socks. Since then, I've been pondering on becoming the Creator of shapes (under shape Properties). I'd like to be able to put my name to the shapes I've done the work on. At the moment, the original creator's name is retained, as I've used the basic 'Ruth' shape to start all of my shapes with. I know that it must be possible to put your name as Creator... I just can't work out how. Could someone shed some light? Is it impossible for me to become the 'Creator' of my shapes because I've started out using another person's template? If so, how do I start with a truly blank canvas with no original 'Creator'? Thanks guys and gals!

in your inventory, right click on any folder and choose new body part, new shape this will create a new default shape with your name as the creator
then wear it, go into appearance, and make the changes you want, save as, give it a new name
then in the inventory, right click and set the permission for next owner however you wish to have the
(this method works the same for clothing and other body parts)

The shapes u built based on another shape will have THAT shapes creator as 'creator'. If you build a shape from a default LL-shape the creator would be 'unknown'.
To get your name on a shape you have to build it from scratch... Right-click a folder in inventory. Choose 'create new shape' and start from there - the shape will state your name.
The only way to have your name on the other shapes u made is by opening the shape in Appearance mode and write down ALL the slider numbers and create a new one!

why do people answer a question that has been answered already, with the same info, just worded differently?
(was my answer not good enough?)

(was my answer not good enough?) Sometimes, when people see the question to which they know the answer, they get tunnel-vision and answer it right away without reading to see if someone else answered it. Sometimes, people answer not necessarily to help, but to express themselves, or show how intelligent they are. Sometimes, people honestly feel that they can improve upon someone's wording, and make the answer more understandable by writing it in a different way. (I am often guilty of this. I always can think of a "better" way to say the exact same thing.) Sometimes, it's not so bad if several people answer with the exact same answer. That is evidence of consensus upon the answer, and makes it more trustworthy.

Someone who went on a potty break? Someone who ran to heat up their coffee? Someone who got interrupted by their boss and minimized the screen? Geez. It could have been anything.

I don't know if it has happened to me on this forum, but on another the other day I was almost through typing my reply when the phone rang. Since I was at work and the phone call was work related, I had to take it. (The forum was also work related). About 15 minutes later I was off the phone and finished by reply. I then noticed that while I was on the phone two other people answered the question I was answering.
At least the three of us agreed.

It could have been anything. ok ok, sheesh, no need to get upset, I did not think it through, also add to the fact I see it a lot... just had me wondering is all the thread had no answers, I post an answer and 5 minutes later someone else posts the same basic answer LOL but it is probably that I am on ignore, or they had to suddenly walk away from the pc, before completing the reply and hitting enter, I would hate to think that my answer was not good enough...

Mary I guess I am different than most ppl If that happened to me, when I returned I would have checked the thread in a new window to see if it had gotten any replies and if so, not bother replying (unless I had more info to add, and not just repeat what others had already said)

There have been a few people who were vitriolic enough for me to set on ignore. If someone is on ignore you see an empty space with their name indicating they have posted and a "click here to view this post" link or something like that. That said, sometimes it takes me a very long time to write little or nothing. Don't ask why. If I see a post got in while I was composing I usually pop back in to add an edit that someone was faster, I wouldn't delete it, because sometimes it's helpful to hear the same thing in more than one person's words (have found this true when teaching in RL). ((((big hug to Rha)))) Just have a happy Christmas and don't worry so much! Haha, now I'm wondering if someone will have slipped in a post while I was typing this...

I thought that Qie's remark about being ignored was a joke repeat of Pep's remark.

From: someone ..........is by opening the shape in Appearance mode and write down ALL the slider numbers and create a new one! That's how to recreate your shape in one of the OpenSim grids or on a standalone sim too.

Lol at this thread.
Anyhow, Rha and the second poster, I didn't understand a thing you said?
Is SL for Dummies helpful, or are you holding any classes?
I mean I can make just new legs if I want to?

From: Avawyn Muircastle I mean I can make just new legs if I want to? Be careful, though. If you right click one of the legs you are wearing, you can end up with extra legs. And you can't get rid of them with a rebake. You need to create an alt.
