Hmmm it is Friday, I wonder when the Lindens will post their weekly idiotic policy change so we can argue over something other than gambling.

You're on the right track but you miss the major point... it's not a matter of choice from the lindens, if they back in 2005 didn't ban GOM they wouldnt have this problem...

I didnt miss the point - I just dont agree with you.

They didnt ban GOM, they ran GOM out of business. GOM could have continued on if they choose/ could have afforded to with the smaller profits.

Besides the fact that instead of trying to actively ban people trading L$ for US$ they have always encouraged it, even before LindenX

Thus they always advertized the L$ as having a value of sorts.

SO I think LindenX or not theyd still have been cuaght by the gambling ban.

From: Andy Grant
the thing is it's the credit card companies that link back to USD that are nolonger allowed to transfer funds spent on socalled "illegal gambling" (read: gambling not approved by marketleaders), the reason for the ban is because we deal with L$ and L$ gets converted through USD banking back to US and the other way. It's all about how your process the money.

True - but even without the LindenX the L$ would be actively traded. Thus the problem would still exist. LL's involvement would just be secondary instead of primary.

I just find it comical that some people claim the government is trying to create a better place to live and are thiking of the best for us, and it's because the government is not corrupt yet politicians recieved bribes (officialy known as socalled: campaign funding) to pass this bill, from noone else than rl gambling tycoons), it's comical but at the same time it's ensaddening.

I dont know how allowing continued unregulated gambling for profit enters into the realm of a good thing taken down by 'the man'.

If there were no way to cash out lindens, I think SL would be in the clear. But SL would also suck.

It would definitely not suck, and basicly theres no way to make it impossible to cash out lindens, the only reason why GOM and IGE existed is because ppl were willing to pay rl cash for virtual goods... removing lindex would simply make it more cost effective for lindens to run a virtual world, but lindens had larger visions... as philip once said "i'm building a country", well a country has to fit into us foreign policy, doesn't it :P

I understand, but let's look at it from LL's point of view here - we have a closed system that is only monopoly money. All transactions involving real money take place outside the game. Why should LL be targetted? That people are willing to meet/confer outside the game to make deals should not mean that LL should be shut down or not receive cc payments. Whether it's eBay or just person to person paypal, people will find a way to trade stuff. There is a point after which it's not LL's responsibility. If the system was closed and all L stayed inworld, that point would be a lot closer than it is now.

I think they've missed a trick here, people are getting tired of the gambling issue now. ID Verification is coming, they should have snuck it in by now and then people would have been busy with two issues and if the kids are divided, they will never be united ...or something like that!

OMG yes. That's gambling with my eardrums.

I'm still upset about the hair ban. I think I'll slip into my backroom, loosen the floorboards, dig up my hidden box, and sit around trying on clandestined hair in front of the mirror today.

Wouldn't you just know some one would take me seriously about Indian land and casinos when I was only teasing. Maybe I should start typing *JOKE* afterwards.

As far as being suspended for gambling I can't really say. I read the police plotter every day and so far I have only seen the words *warning issued* by gambling.

Would you know where I can find such games?

Search is your friend, type Chess, Suduko or any other games you can think of.

There are many others but I don't want to list them because the anti-gambling brigade will use the terms to AR the game parlors that still exist.

I generally find it a bit sad if someone has gambling as the only reason for SL...there is SO MUCH more to do here! ;)

I don't get people like the OP at all. Gambling in SL was never that "fun" to begin with. I mean really, what fun is to stick cash into a machine that is probably rigged and will steal from you. If that is the only "fun" you can find here, there is something very wrong.

Thats if you go to the pure pathetic casinos... if you ever went to more respected ones like FDP or other larger places if it was a poker table it was the unriggible VGA, if you ever tried slots at these places those were unriggible General Gaming (my own slots) or AOS. My slots had payout rates of 88-96%, and virtual reels tuned for best player experience, you can well try comparing my slots with rigged slots you can find at 888.com they simply dont match with the frequency on highpayouts/jackpot payouts my slots did.

I agree 100%, gambling isn't the only thing I do but I still do love to play a game of Zyngo and I did play poker a few times, even won a freeplay tournament at Myths once (woot woot that was an easy $1000L).

I would like to play Chess for lindens too but I haven't explored SL enough to discover where the players are and which ones I will be able to beat. I'm not even sure who the best Chess player in SL is but I would like to play them even if I lose my $$$ because I really enjoy the game especially if there is a something little more to play for rather than just bragging rights.

But that doesn't mean my only reason for SL is gambling, I love everything about it except for maybe the ad-farmers.

LOL

You know thats one of the lamer stereotypes that gets thrown around. Truckers on average have smaller vocabularies - they would probably benefit from using voice more than many other residents.

I have 2 brother in laws who are truckers. Not only are they not the sharpest knives in the drawer, they arent even sharp for spoons.

Im sure there are plenty of smart Truckers. Just that a lack of education favors voice communication. For the simple fact that reading and writing is a skill that takes a certain amount of education to do well.
