Where do you buy your bread from? The local supermarket sells it a lot cheaper, I buy stay fresh sliced for about 55p and uncut fresh bloomer for around the same. You can buy the economy bread for around 20p

No, I don't like the VAT now added especially when there is no warning of the extra fee hike and the fact I have to pay in $US and already get low exchange rates for the conversion. The VAT laws in pricing here state that the publish price for consumers must include the vat or clearly state it isn't included.

You obviously haven't lived anywhere else if you think the UK is the most expensive country in the world.
I have and it's not. Overall, it a lot cheaper than some European countries.

VAT on SL
09-28-2007 01:49
And on top of already being an expensive country to live in, Linden Labs is now about to start charging us all VAT on any bills (such as land tiers, auctions etc).
How the hell are we supposed to compete with other countries if you run a sim ? They all get charged $US300 per month, we get charged $US352.
It's already a tight market, this is going to throw europe out of the property game !!

If you don't like it, go somewhere else.

Oh and if you are paying £2.50 for bread you're a fool. I pay less than 50p for a loaf. And for £2 I can buy half a gallon of milk, and have change, from any corner shop.

Cigarettes are around £5.50 a pack, petrol around £1.00 a litre. I don't know the cost of beer these days.

Depends where you are, but where I am, East Midlands, beer is about £2.60 a pint in the pub, anywhere from 50p to £2.00 in the supermarkets. And I smoke rollups so I pay about £2.50 for enough tobacco to make 40.

It's about 3 quid a pint in London. That's about EUR 4.50 a pint. This is still a lot less than, say, Amsterdam, where you pay about EUR 3 for a third of a litre (with about one-quarter of that pure froth).

I'm off to Munich next month and it'll be even more expensive there:))

Too much! Need to fill the car up today and that will cost me about £40 ( ~ 80 US$) for the petrol. Beer - that's over £1 ('bout 2 US$) for a half pint last time I looked (and that was some months ago). Don't smoke - so don't know the cost of fags - but it is an expensive addiction to have as well as now being banned in all public enclosed spaces in the UK.

Re: OP
You can get cheaper bread and milk In the UK - I pay about 90p for a wholemeal loaf, but that's over 1 US$. A medium slice cut loaf of white bread is 56p. Milk is currently 76p for 2 pints at my local supermarket (2 pints = 1.136 litres, so the label says.)

Very good chance they will lose to Tonga this weekend although Tonga technically should have no chance at all.

Hmmm... In what places have you been in Amsterdam? *laughs*

Mostly a beer is here around 1.50 to 2.50 Euro per glass ... but yes, there are more expensive places (*pokes Chas*).
What also makes a difference is if you talk about Dutch beer (Grolsch and alike). Imported beers can be a lot more expensive.

Don't be silly! You may suck at not knowing the price of things .. but England certainly does not suck in the slightest.

Seriously I can't see why people are getting so upset about all this .. we pay VAT on almost everything, its nothing new. Sure I dislike the way LL has handles the whole affair, but really adding 85 pence a month to a premium account is nothing. Land tier? well if you are whining about 17.5% on your tier then tier down a stop moaning :)

To say england sucks simply because LL decided to move their EU payments system there is a disgrace.

I believe most people are complaining about the VAT, but mostly about the way LL handled it.

And... if you own a private isle, there is nothing to tier down.

You get far better mileage out of the cash equivalent of cannabis-based products that you do out of alcohol-based products. Possibly because cannabis-based products are not yet taxed?

Where the heck are you buying bread?! I'm living in central London and can get bread happily for about 70p per loaf for decent stuff. Milk is £2 for two 4 pint containers, that's 8 pints of milk for £2.

If anything we're paying far too little, dairy farmers struggle to turn a profit on milk!

True .. but then if you are gambling all that monthly fee on something that, in the SL TOS doesn't actually exist, then why the hell would anyone gamble that much real £ in the first place?

My point is this, why do you play SL? .. for pleasure .. business .. both? SL is expensive in the first place if you start buying land .. and now for those in the EU it apparently just got more expensive. If you are playing SL for fun, and have high outgoings then I guess its time to call it a day .. if you play for business .. then you will have to adapt. Its a part of live ... the VAT man found us in SL .. adapt or leave its simple.

Yes as I said I completely disagree with the way LL have dealt with this VAT matter (guess what i own land too) but can't believe the complete outrage from some EU members. LL are incompetent at times very true .. but still they are trying to keep within the LAW ... you expect them to break the law, and then go bust when they get heaved into the courts ... where will our SL be then I wonder??
