I recently purchased my first prim horse, and I wondered if anyone had any good suggestions where to ride him in SL? I live in a rental in a town, so I have to go elsewhere to exercise him. Are there any scenic places that are horse friendly? And that don't have much concrete, 'coz that's *so* hard on their feet and legs....

Congrats on your new horse ![]() My partner and I ride ours in many sims but our favorites thus far are: *Any of the Caledon sims (The first Caledon resident said one of the best ways to "see Caledon" is on horseback) *The Great Wall of SL (I think that's what it's called) *AKK Horse Ranch has a lot of adjoining meadows and hills and nice trails *There's a SL Horse Club that also has some nice riding areas (not inworld and can't recall the name offhand) Really any open space works since the horse (I'm assuming) is an attachment you don't have to have rez permissions to ride it. Have fun!! _____________________

Congrats! There are so many places that you can ride. Your horse is an attachment so unless it poops, there's nothing to rez.

I've taken mine out to the Botanical Gardens which was a wonderful place to ride him. However, some of the walkways are quite narrow and we did fall into the water a few times. No matter - my trusty steed Houdini is a good swimmer and got us out of trouble easily

Hi Aebleskiver,
Back in March, there was a thread about "our favorite things", and in it there was a discussion about where to ride horses... The Friday night Forum Cartel horse rides came about as a result of that discussion. And yes! when and where is the next expedition? /327/12/249066/1.html |

/me scratches her head in puzzlement.
If I had a horse, I'd ride him on his back. Is there another way? _____________________

The Caledon Troopers meet every Friday at 7pm SLT. Miss Vulpine Eldrich runs the group, so you might wish to contact her if you are interested. Rides go all over Second Life--she really has a knack for finding beautiful routes.
As mentioned, Caledon proper is a lovely place to ride. There is an actual horse trail that starts in Caledon Eyre and wanders its way across the mountain ridgeline of the northern four sims. It begins on the southwestern side of Eyre, just north of the Tanglewood border. Look for the beanstalk and go to the park just north of it, hop across the stream and head up the ridge (prim limits prevented trail markers, but its really quite obvious) _____________________

Ask Mari's neighbors. Ooh! I was waiting for someone to mention them. Their land is now up for sale. They still have all the icky stuff there, but no, it's not included with purchase. I danced on my balcony and shot off fireworks in celebration. Mari (Who did come across the Caledon Troopers on an elementary school field trip, and found them to be a lively group) _____________________

I have the inverse question. If your home is near a nice place to ride, and you would like to be able to "loan" a horse to guests who don't have their own horse, is there any solution? We have a corral full of horses, but we're the only ones who can ride them! (all of them are notrans).
Most of the horsemakers have clever solutions to this for their demos ... only good for a number of rezzes or a period of time. I would love, for example, to be able to buy a horse that I could make trans copies of, each of which was not copiable and deleted itself after 4 hours. . |

You're not the first person to ask about something like that, Nika, and I've been thinking about solutions but so far my bubblebrain hasn't come up with one.
A demo vendor is set up by the merchant, so that's easy enough to get the permissions right on. But for me to give you a horse that you could give out more than once, I'd have to send it copy AND transfer. Now, it would be no mod with X number of rezzes , but if you give this copy/transfer item to someone and they don't use it up, they could also give out an unlimited number of horses (I thiiiiink....permissions make my head hurt to be honest) There might be a work around on this: I'm playing about with the idea of creating horses that only work in a specific sim designated by the owner (which should prevent someone from riding out with a freebie horse). Still, as I pay for my groceries with horse sales, I am very very cautious about this, and I am certain the other horse makers would be, too. _____________________

I imagine Grendels would be a good trekking type place to take a horse - if you don't mind being prey to dragons once in a while - might actually make it very interesting having to avoid being hunted.
And of course don't forget the newly opened Bay City - a good way to explore ![]() _____________________

I got one! Kriss Lehmans awesome awesome rainforest in tropical visit mexico 2.
You can even get a free horse from one of the shops in the neighbouring town of Campeche on Visit Mexico 3. I'm slightly biased, I did the build for campeche - but you really can get a free horse there, and I didnt make that.. |

Global grid position? Owner? X number of times someone says 'horse'? Just tossing out ideas here... _____________________

My alt recently purchased one of Virrginias stunning Shires and named him Morrigan. Thank you, Virrginia. I can't praise this creation enough.
He (my alt that is) and Morrigan stumbled upon the beautiful sim, Eldamar. I think the entire sim is a Middle Earth theme and has very relaxing trails through one of the most extraordinary fantasy forests I've yet seen in SL. It even has a sort of Jacob's Ladder effect with sunlight shining through tree limbs. I don't think it's Windlight, but some sort of prim effect. Just amazing. |
