Would it be nice if the IMAGE of an avatar stayed when offline?

I mean a user selectable option of course.
If you have a SL partner, and you may decide to go to bed together each night (back at one of your places)
don't you think it would be nice if a Image (shell) of your partners avatar stayed there whilst they were off-line (sleeping)
So that when one of you logged back on, you were still lying beside your SL partner who would be there in bed, until they came online later.
I'd think many SL couples wiould love this if it was a "selectable" feature.
Would you?

Would be an interesting feature. I s'pect it would cause more'n its share of trouble to the central databse an stuff, though.

Interesting idea, but I agree with Marianne in that it might cause more problems with the central db system. Which I assure you, doesn't need any more help in failing But, yes, I could see this as a romantic solution to keeping others from using your sexgen bed when you are gone.

Not only that, but think of the possibilities for abuse. For instance, someone could log all 120 of their alts in, one at a time, and fill up a shop or club, to the extent that no one else could get in. Of course, there would also be possibilities for Art---'living sculptures' of alts standing on each other's shoulders in ladders to the sky or recreations of famous battle scenes from Civil War paintings, say.

I'm thinking a picture of my loved one on a prim may just suffice lol Of course, a picture of Brad Pitt may have to suffice

I would not like that
it would be weird to see the avatar knowing the person is not there...

And would help the illusion that you're actually "sleeping" together. Never wanted to wake up in the morning to someone who can't be there?

Heh. I've made a particle-based avatar that's more realistic than a prim, usually anyway. I've had several people tell me that they mistook my "stunt double" for me and were upset at me or worried about me when "I" just stood there and didn't respond to them... I can just imagine what sleeping avatars would be like. Imagine Ahern with 5000 disconnected avatars standing around in random poses. Even with imposters. You'd definitely need to make this something the parcel owner set, maybe make it something for group members only, or make it a role.

So, one might bring back a lover while your full partner is slugabed and bonk away with said partner still in Land of Nod? Not sure about that one. Might really cramp one's style.

But Piggie, I think something similar to what you are wanting could be easily built. An image of your avatar sleeping that would appear when you are offline. It would not be dynamic but rather a static photo mapped to a prim. If you go to sleep with the same animation every time this would be perfect.
It would give you the added benifit of being able to be with them on the days they are not there. While the other person is offline (on a business trip, vacation or whatever) you would see them in bed while they were away. It may be just a hollow gesture but at least you could end the day next to your loved one. Sad in a way but when you are in love even the bittersweet feelings are wonderful to explore.
