What DUMB @ass thought banning banks in SL is a good idea???

If these "banks" don't have the money to cover deposits, then they don't have the money to cover deposits. That's exactly why they were banned.

Let me get this straight. It's LL's fault that people put money in disruptable "banking institutions (loosely coined-term), and the "bank" won't pay back its depositers? Hmmm..

Sounds to me like LL did a good thing. And they didn't ban banks..they just want any bank to follow the rules of banking an file appropriate registrations. Otherwise they are out.

And if I can be bold and say the only 'dumb @ss' here are those that see this new policy as a bad thing. All these 'banks' did was smoke screen people into loosing their money in the long run. Plus they hurt the economy more then anything.

LL didn't ban banks from paying their depositors. If you're bank won't give you back you're money, then it's not an honest bank and you should be thanking LL for saving you from losing more money.

I would be interested to know how you "rip scripts", but, on the other hand, you don't.

It's a great idea! The only dumb asses are the people who put significant amounts of cash in the hands of an unknown, faceless avatar expecting to get their money back with interest.

If people lost cash in the "bank," it means that the "bank" was dishonest or incompetent, it was bound to happen in time, if not now. If the bank is honest and competent, you WILL GET YOUR MONEY BACK, or most of it.

If you gifted some stranger with your cash and expected them to give it back to you with no rl contract and no way to identify them or even the jurisdiction to sue said stranger in except by subpoenaing LL, then the dumbass is YOU.

Now if you were in some kind of a haze by trusting a friend who said X bank is reliable, I have some sympathy for you. But don't come here raising some stink at LL about shutting down these ILLEGAL PONZI SCHEMES.

I think the "banks" in SL are - were - very educational. It's been so long since we've had a decent bank run here in the US, and the subprime mortgage disaster is so concentrated on the financial sector it goes over the heads of a lot of people. People don't realize - as someone put it, you "give money to a faceless avatar with the expectation of getting it back with interest." People who do that need to learn about life.

I mourn the "banks'" passing - they have taught such valuable real life lessons, for a very reasonable real life money cost for most people.

But notice they left the door open for the day Bank of America or Citibank want to open their doors here.

Um, the policy is due to kick in Jan 22 is my understanding. If you can't get money out that is not LL's fault. Also, if you have a bank that you trust (why you would trust any bank in SL I don't know, but) you can IM the owner -- the policy is to remove scripted automated tellers, not avatars.

If your "bank" was honest to begin with, you'll get your money -- IM the owner and simply ask for it. If they won't give you the money, they are defrauding you -- take it out on them.

This is a good move on LL's part!
