What happened to all the dance clubs?

Take a look over at "BadGirls" over at Badlands............. Jesse Murdock if not the best example of how a club should be run.

I loved the Tiki Lounge, always a friendly and welcome place - not been for ages but it's where I spent my newbie days.

Will have to take a look when things are up and running.

I don't run a club myself but do host parties most of the week at Devilfish, parties run 1am and 10am SL time on weds til fridays, we throw other parties in between.

They're always themed, prizes for those who win, DJs who talk on the mic interact with the crowd, play requests etc...

It's all about having a good time on the beach really, making new friends, hearing great tunes and there's places to go off and relax if you want to.

Badgirls is cool but faaar too many money ball hungry camper style zombies in there for my liking.

X on the Waterfront is an awesome club - things run from 12SL time (i think?) great DJs there, good crowd and a nice looking club to boot.

Powerplant is a good one for the rockers out there, again a nice team running it, live djs who play requests though on some nights it can be pretty quiet there!

I've been to several clubs when there wasn't anyone there and I got no lag...when there is a crowd, I got lag. These clubs have lights and particles’ going day and night, so it seems the lag is created by all the avi's.

It seems that when gambling (& yes my other alt is much older than this one) was done away with some of the clubs struggled and folded. I noticed as well, unless a club has live DJ's with good music, and events to attract, the traffic is minimal to none. (I'm sure there are other factors such as mismanagement, internal conflict, and drama, ect. ect. ect.)

I prefer hanging out and dancing on Rasta Island, we have daily live DJ's, great music, and many social events and games...The regulars there are really nice folks, and the occasional crowds enjoy themselves immensely. There is only an occasional hint of lag when a large crowd gathers. It's not a club, more like a dance floor on the beach. There is snorkling, surfing, jet ski, sailing, sky rides, mud wrestling, scuba diving, and getting that even tan you always wanted (clothing optional), among the many activities avilable there... See you there Rastafarians!!!

My favorite club in SL is at Pink Rose Island. They have informal dancing on the beach almost every evening from around 6pm SLT but every Friday and Saturday night at 7pm SLT they have themed events. They've got a proper 'club' set up, and a new jazz area, and tend to alternate events from one venue to the other. It's great fun and I've met some fabulous people there. The place is owned and run by two of the friendliest people in SL.

Gia's Fashion Cabaret and Event Center in Slipp. There is live entertainment on Weds. nights, with contests on event night, and fashion shows from time to time.

Plenty of active clubs still about some are dead at certain times, some rock 24/7 too. I send you my folder full I rechecked all the LMs before Xmas

Places I go to that have not already been mentioned:

Crown & Pearl (always packed, great djs, socialising)
Sanctuary Rock (rock/metal music, very busy, themed events)

Putting in another mention also for VooDoo Lounge and Antares since I DJ at both of them

Ah this thread is a wander down memory lane!

I'll put in a plug for Club Taboo, which is rock club run by a friend of my sweetie's. Still quite small.

My own place now is mainly geared towards blues and rock but it's geared towards the BDSM crowd - I'm delighted to say I built it for pleasure and that it's kind of my beach garden open for others to enjoy if so inclined.

The issue is simply cost. Clubs are a money pit. period. Unless the club is attahced to a mall where the mall rent offsets the cost, or the club walls are littered with paid ads it is nothing but a linden black hole. So it is no surprise people who start a club don't realize between rent, tier, staff costs, DJ costs and deco costs it more then they bargended for and close down, give/sell the club away. Thankfully I have a good job irl to offset the costs of my club. If it wasn't for that I couldnt afford keeping it open.

Speaking of which, if you are into industrial, goth, techno music check out Club Penumbra. For less then 2 weeks old we are doing pretty good. Have events/theme's almost every day.

I'm going to mention the three clubs I currently DJ at because....well hell, if they're smart enough to hire me, they must be good, right?



Popeye's Beach Club - Great hosts (Bradley and others) and great events, although it's in a bit of turmoil right now......we'll see...

Hot-Wet Blues - Great blues club owned and managed by Magi McBride who is fabulous. Very friendly crowd...I love working there...come by tonight and see me!

The Bee Hive - BusyBee Beaver owns and runs it, and she is great. Very friendly and crazy crowd...if a bit spanker happy....lol. Good events and great people.

The reason I love these clubs is that they are not biggies....no campers. Anyone who works there will acknowledge you and befriend you. And they give me lots of leeway to play music I (and others) like.

Summertime Blues Club - as the name implies, we focus on the blues. The club is an outdoor environment specifically designed to be low lag - even with 56 people there the other night, there was no lag!

We have nightly events, we're building our day events, and for the Europeans, we're running weekend 8am SL events. Live DJs, dancers, and the best dance balls in SL, with lots of ways to take home more money than you came with!

Well, thank you for reviving this very old, by forum standards, thread. Some sweet person had given me a landmark to the 2 new Blackhearts' and I was relieved you guys are still dancing up in the air.

I think between the demise of so many dance venues and the fact my landlord didn't show up in the new search, making payment quite a chore, I pretty much abandoned Second Life other than checking the forums and exploring fashions a couple times a month in world. Maybe I should come back in and party like I used to. --KC
