Anyone else found a new tactic by ad farmers? A certain Rxxx Mxxx quickly removed eyesore spinners from small plots adjoining mine, now they have ban lines and are up for sale at 5000 or 3200 for 16sm. Not quite extortion, but a pretty obvious attempt to make life as difficult as possible. I doubt it's worth an AR but what do others think? It's no great problem for me, I'm happy to see him eat the tier and at least the eyesore is gone.

Are you completely surrounded by 16m plots with ban lines? No? Then deal with it and wait it out. The ban is his privilege to use as part of the land powers. Focus on something else.

Cristalle is correct!!

Write your AR toward the high price of the land not the Ban Lines. $L3200 for 16m is extortion.

That Dazzle viewer (one of the First Look viewers) doesn't show ban lines.
You'd still be banned from the parcel, but at least you'd not have to look at those stunningly rendered ban lines.

It's possible he's going against the rules since he's obviously trying to extort money and the rules are so vague. For now, though, let's continue to focus on the traditional ad farmers. My bet is scum like him will dry up and blow away on their own without us having to create an entire new animal to chase after.

A person can charge whatever they want for land. That is not extortion. Attempts to make them pay those outrageous fees is. Do banlines fall under that definition? hmmmmmm. See my comments above.

There is a discussion on RM's lame tactic on page 2 of this thread over at SLU:

Sadly, that's just a bug, not a setting. The latest RC viewer restores ban lines (or so the blog says.. haven't tried it yet) and the next Dazzle/Windlight/etc will probably be updated before long, too.

This is not new.
It's been used since LL 'sort of' defined what was not allowed.
Look at Post #61++ in /327/10/241533/3.html

There's a comment on the new practice followed by some tired old garbage about "rights".
It gets a bit flamey quickly, so skip on to Post #159 for a pointer to a very egregious example or R* M* puting a whole roadside strip of banlines.

Banlines on a 16m plot are transparently (sic) a visual and movement harassment of neighbours.

Privilege my arse. Letter of the law my arse.
Let's have some benevolent despotism here.

AR the things. Get everyone in town to AR them if you have to.
Nobody is kidding anybody.
Hit the pond scum with the spirit of the law and let them scream.

P***lands put up banlines on a 16m plot beside our boat-rezzing plot the day after the ban came in. They had some garbage story of how they were (suddenly) protecting their neighbours from abuse of via no-build, no-object-entry, 1minute-autoretun 16m blot.
GET REAL!!
The lines are gone now.
SL must have gotten safer.

To my mind 16m for L$3200 = 16m 'not for sale', effectively. You can't AR someone for not having their land for sale!!!!!

I get tired of the same old garbage of there are rules, but we won't tell you what they are. Or the ever popular "I know a violation when I see it."

Don't expect everyone to read your freaking mind, if the words that make up the law don't mean exactly what they say, then they are worthless.

I eschewed the term "rights" and you're still not satisfied. LL permits it as part of the land controls, for whatever reasons, and since it can be taken away it's a privilege.

And this is a waste of ARs if people are not allowed to ban others - up to and including everyone - with their land. There is a limit here and this is going too far. As Bradley said, focus first on the obvious extortionists. This too shall pass, and it won't even take an AR to resolve itself. The land will either be priced to sell or abandoned in due time, and it probably won't take very long. Getting irate over a banline only lets RM win by pissing you off.

Tough!

Wake up. Smell the coffee.

LL have obviously had enough of that gang of extorting ad farmers.
They are giving them the noble order of the boot.
They didn't lay out some very specific set of words. They don't have to.

It's really simple. Read the Blog
"So whilst advertising in itself is okay, where it crosses the line into harassing behavior or visual spam, where the intent is purely to compel another resident to pay an unreasonable price to restore their view - then this will be covered under Harassment in our Community Standards."

Rights?
The ad farmers had "the right" to put up griefy spinners.
Where are their "rights" now?
DO you want to petition LL to restore the "right" of ad farmers to put back their crap?

The ad farmers have "the right" to put up banlines on ad plots.
How is this different to their "right" to put up griefy spinners?

This is an interesting development. If it is clear that the banlines are being used as an eyesore in the same vein as horrible adverts then it could solve, or add weight to the general banlines are eyesores argument, and persuade LL to recognize it as such.
