For the longest time, I didn't give any thought to logging out. I'd pull the plug wherever I happened to be. If it was some place crowded, I might make the effort to move to the side, but other than that...just hit the "x".
Now, Maureen and I end each night by getting ready for bed, then relaxing, and unwinding from our day. That time...just before turning out the lights...has become one of the most important parts of my day. Pixels or not...doing something so mundane with our avatars bridges the distance like nothing else can.
But still...lights out means log off. I don't leave my avatar logged in if I am going to be away for an extended period of time.
I did have a friend who stayed logged in 24/7. He would sit his avatar down on a camping chair when not at his computer. I found it so annoying to see him active on my friends list, and never know if he was really there.

I also want to add if for some reason such as Willard handling a customer's issue or I have to run to the mall (usually to catch a sale before it ends), we will wait up for each until whoever comes home. Then its lights out and we both log out.

From: Jannae Karas I like that model. A new ritual for Jannae. I do exactly the same thing. Can't just leave Treasure anywhere, who knows what might happen to her. She goes home, LOCKS her door behind her, darkens her bedroom windows, puts on her jammies and goes to sleep, zooby cat beside her on the bed, causing lag on the sim. (at least some folks say zooby pets cause lag) Only then can I log off and know she's ok til I return.

From: Spring Eberhardt I get logged out for inactivity if I'm away from my computer for very long. Which is annoying when I plan to pop back on. How do you stay logged in for so long? Open the Advanced menu (CTRL + ALT + D) and under Character > Character Tests, uncheck "Go Away/AFK When Idle".
