Just popped in and haven't read the rest of the posts in a while but I had a brainstorm I thought I'd share.
Why not cut up parcels all over the place into 16m squares and put up a big, rotating full bright signs offering help that people can click on to get the notecards? Huh? Huh? Yeah!
OK, I'm off to read the other ideas people have. We're so much smarter as a group than we are alone!

From: 3Ring Binder this bot thing sounds pretty cool, but it presents the same problem as the kiosk, that being the need to be present to use it. or did i miss something? Yup, sorry must not have been clear. A bot used to relay messages like this can be 20,000 leagues under the sea; the person asking a question of the group never has to see it, just has to know it's name and look that name up in search. The questioner just sends it an IM like you do any other avatar, from anywhere on the grid. The bot does its preprogrammed bit automatically, which could be anything: > start up a group IM or IM conference including the questioner (this would mean that people who want to state a question would not have to join the group, but does little to prevent spam) > send you a list of group members who are currently online > send you a notecard whatever ... basically anything that an avatar can easily do, without having to actually see anything around it. Anyway, I still think it's best to keep it simple now, no bot, no hud, despite the fun-ness in creating these things

The bot, however, solves the problem of people needing to join the group if they are maxed out, and should eliminate most spammers, especially if it's out of sight.

OK, I've rethought my idea and it sounds unworkable. I doubt it's possible to get enough 16m parcels that anyone would notice them.
Meanwhile, has Tama Vollmar's situation been sorted out yet? I can't help because I'm not a tier-and-group kind of guy.
Tama, if you're still reading it might be a good idea to start another thread with a pertinent subject line.
Keep up the good work, folks. It would be great if something useful and helpful came out of this. Apart from "slapping the figtree" but I am grateful for the new euphemism.

Tama, on your account page, click Group Land.
That page will show your tier donation to all your groups, if any.
By leaving a group, you should take the tier with you. If you didn't, there is a problem, and you should contact LL right away.

From: Raymond Figtree The problem of spamming didn't need underscoring. I highly doubt this particular group will be subject to much of it because we are going to police ourselves. Why don't we see if it's going to be a problem with this group before we underscore it... For what its worth, NCI is an open enrolement high numbers group. We get about three or four spamming incidents a week. Usually solved by polite request, followed up with a boot out of the group, if need be. If they come back and continue, they are ARed and added to banlink. It has not been a huge problem for us, at least.

Figured out a way for folks to get notecards remotely.
11-02-2007 10:17
In addition to a kiosk, I will create group notices with our Land FAQ notecards attached. People who want to read the notecards for info and answers will be directed to join the group and go to the Group Notices page in our Group Info and take notecards from notices. The notices will be labeled by subject so they can easily find what they are looking for. And of course, as the notecards are updated, they will replace outdated ones in the notices. I will create new notices as the old ones expire after 30 days.
This will allow people to get the notecards without having to travel somewhere to find them. All we need to do is get the word out. The fastest way for folks to find the group info is to search "Land Answers" in the group tab. We are the first listing that comes up.
So it looks like the best way for folks to get help, both live and via notecard will require them to join the group. Let's see how that works for a while...
We should have the notecards ready and listed on the notices page by Thanksgiving.
BTW, we just had our first live group chat question answered. It worked like a charm. Woo hoo!

I'll be afk all weekend. If you are a land expert willing to be available for live help when online via group chat, please join the group. And get the message out that we are here to help.
If you are inworld and need a land question answered, do what it says in my signature.
If we save one person from Landb-ron M-rlin's landbot this weekend, it will all be worth it.
