I dunno about accounts being deleted because of names or images. I set up an account for my avatar because I want to keep some thing separate from my RL, mostly the sort of spam you get when using Facebook game applications. For one of the games I play there, Castle Age, here are some of my "friends" AJerk Butt Blibber Blabber Godlike Godlike Happy Pig and the list goes on. Definitely NOT real names Many of them use avatar images that are taken from games, their pets, or just something arty. Maybe someone is deleting non-SL members from the SL group if no matching inworld avvies are found. That would be a different matter than Facebook itself deleting accounts.

From: Brenda Connolly How does Facebook know whether your name is real or not? I can see in the case of obvious false fake names, but when you sign up, it asks for a first and last name. How can they tell you aren't using your RL name?
I have a FB account for my SL name, and it's still up there and there is nothing linking it to RL me. Griefers and busybodies report avatar accounts. When Facebook investigates the reports, they ban the accounts. They don't (as far as I know) actively seek out anyone for using false info; they just respond to complaints.

didn't read it all.. I have RL and SL accounts there. as well 3 others use my network IP to log in to FB no issues here now tell me, are they going to ban all but one account from the same IP? they do know that people have families and more than one FB account in a household right?
I make it a point to log in to each every day (yes I play games with both LOL) one year and counting, It seems to me many get deleted by people reporting you or over spaming friend requesting poking etc. etc.
I have never seen the link my RL to SL account thing and although I do not hide my RL from SL I do Hide my SL form some in RL ROFL wont ever do that!
EDIT: LIAS Where is this link for the event calender and stuff .. I may do that !

I loathe Farcebook and its placebo relationships. Just enough info to think you are in contact with people but nothing substantial to really know what is going on in their lives.
I made an account there. It is full of bogus information and even has a cat for a picture. Why? I want to chose the few people that I contacted. There are loads and loads of people I don't want contacting me.
I log in there occasionally to wish an old friend a happy birthday.

Facebook is about first life, this is Second Life, it's not a happy marriage, enough with trying to force people to widely reveal first life details.

I'm not sure I see the point of connecting SL with a Facebook account. What do you do with the connection? Leave messages? What's wrong with IM's? Are we to go back to the days of bulletin boards and leave the SL experience behind? Or would it be a poor substitute for when these forums become extinct?
I have a RL Facebook account but find it a monumental waste of time. My avatar pic is a drawing of a two-legged frog-thing that walks upright like a chicken. My close friends instantly know that as my logo of sorts. No one has ever banned me.
I once posted a period "." and had several people say they "liked" it. I came back later and said I was just speaking my mind which is pretty close to the truth. It was good to connect with old friends and to know they're doing okay, but I don't really need to know what they had for dinner last night.
As for Linden Lab giving the option to use your real name - wait! Haven't we asked for the opportunity to pick whatever name we want? Did they confuse this with wanting a real name, or is this just another way to woo the corporate world? Yes, I can hear the conversations now. "People who don't use their real names must have something to hide." Yes, they're clearly hiding their real names.

It does seem at times that LL is more interested in giving us more ways to communicate outside of SL than improving the SL experience itself. From all the clutter on the Dashbored (tm), to that call an avatar thingie they floated recently, it seems they are saying "OK, we can't make SL itself work right, but here are ways to do stuff without using it.".

From: Weston Graves It was good to connect with old friends and to know they're doing okay, but I don't really need to know what they had for dinner last night. This. I have used FB to find a lot of friends with whom I had lost touch over the years, and for this purpose, it has been invaluable. Once I've made contact, I can call the person in RL and have a real conversation. As for all the little weird games and whatnot on there, I just can't see the interest. Someone sent me a chicken for my farm/fish for my pond? WTF? I have my privacy settings so that no one can see anything about me unless I approve them, so I don't have the kind of conversations that Brenda cites, ever. (Oh wait, there is SL...)

FB is an ex parrot, for me.
(When I logged in to delete, ALL my privacy settings had been changed. Luckily I had not provided info for all of it. However, that was more than enough to cement my decision. *I* decide what goes where, as much as possible in this information age.)

PS I love these toons. This is how I think of twitface et al. I have nothing against anyone else who wants to use it - it has its uses such as finding old classmates I suppose - but it's not a healthy thing to the extent it's permeated some aspects of society. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN2HAroA12w"Aren't you just randomly bragging?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHAZt-ExuawOh, and facebook talks about the awkwardness of accepting/deleting 'friends.' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUA1N840Bkk

Yeah.. as I told my RL friends who are in SL.. I'll keep my Raudf Fox avatar FB account, thank you very much. I have an RL family and RL friends on my main. I like being able to post things there about my RL. Like how my offspring is doing in school. Info like that is NOT something the world at large needs to know about.
