From: Jig Chippewa Okay Okiphia - I am gonna come looking at what you build. Age in SL has no bearing on artistic skills and good taste. Shameless plug time.. lol... a few people have asked to see what I've done.. so I'll post a SLURL:: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sliderule/216/128That is my home, for myself and Family. Not quite all of it is hand built yet, as I wanted to get it done fast-ish, but I'm replacing bits and pieces with hand-made ones as I go. The parcel linked to there is the main house, and the parcel to the East (I think... cant go in-world atm) with the two waterfalls is also mine, though its kinda empty right now, I haven't added much there. If anyone wants to see any other work of mine, PM me here or IM me in-world...

I don't think its about age, its about recognition and talent. I have been here for a while actually orginal guy was from 2003. I have often felt more like the invisible guy. It not that I don't have talent or I am not creative it just I am unnoticed, unrecognized artist that not many people really care about. But I do have my moments where I feel really cared and recognized.

Kinda adds to your post as well *nods* I created it when I was feeling bit upset about similar things. Its like I am learning and creating all these things but its like I am invisible. Sometimes it bothers me more in sense of because lack of immortality of being digital artist will have for me...i.e why do I create? what will my future creations mean to others? What if they just disappear into the dusty cracks of the data base to be eaten by the inventory monster gone forever type thing? but what really important is how it feels to create and enjoy creating when I think about the big picture.

An artist, yes? Well then.. I may soon have something you'll like... In the next few months or so, I plan to buy another 2048m or so, and use it purely as a showcase for little-known artists and creators in SL. The featured artists will change weekly (Or monthly mayhap)... If I ever get that up and running, I'll let you know if you like. (2048 for tier limits.. bleh) EDIT:: Until I get that going, I'm working on a website to do it, showing images of artists' builds featured every week or month, and forums to discuss various aspects, artists, etc. which will also be my business site.

Thanks that is kind thought. I got land. I was bit a of primaholic spent way too much now share a sim with a friend. The good thing is I do have caring friends who have helped reduce tier by 50 dollars, etc. It not about land. Sometimes I just feel frusterated because I can't produce Cezanne like 3d building textures every day and fit my high standards, etc. Then sometimes it does seem like it really hard starting out connecting with anyone in SL. Luckily I have few friends who helped me in many ways but still I have moments I wish I was like this great very recognized person that I never been but always wanted to be too or at least less invisible or unimportant. Lot more talented artist who had more talent then I ever will acquire were never were recognized or even noticed while they were alive.

I'll admit that the first thing I do when I meet someone both socially or in business is to check their age to size them up. There is nothing wrong with this. Having natural abilities will not make up for just plain lack of virtual experiences in this world - experiences that will shape who you are 1 or 2 years from now. There is no substitute for this. You have to live it.
This is not to say being a noob is bad. Hell at a year i'm still basically a noob myself... Stop worrying what people think about your age, and do your thing, have fun, keep making friends, and you will bloom into a different virtual person than you are right now - same - but different.
You will look back and laugh at this thread on Oct 08 - I promise.

From: Malachi Petunia Hey, this is SL; by the clocks in here, I'm about 80 years old. It won't take nearly a year. I've even bought one of your AVs and I've not seen one to surpass it in craftsmanship; you'll find your style becomming more refined over time but you are off to a great start. One of the best critiques I've ever read - about Peter Gabriel - was something like "his technical chops aren't amazing, but what is amazing is that he knows his limitations and puts what he can do to its best effect". *blush* That means a lot, especially from someone who's been around since before the dirt texture. Thanks.

He's not older than the dirt texture, but he remembers when the early scripters invented a way to mix it with water and turn it into mud. I don't really care how old someone is, but when I was newer (I still am a newb, but I'm not as hopeless as I used to be), I was very intimidated about approaching someone who was old. I felt like they were way above me in skill level and social status and were likely to laugh at me or treat me like a little kid. Like a freshman in high school trying to hang out with the really cool kids in the senior class. Then I realized that I just don't give a damn. How much damage is someone really going to do to me by acting like a snot? I'm much happier now that I've lost that inhibition.

I hope you forgive my putting in my 2p worth. Hoping to help you, Okiphia.
If I were searching for a builder, I also might let 'age' affect my judgement of them. However, your profile might also make me doubt your suitability for the job a little.
According to your profile you have no skills (none indicated on that page) and your business is not mentioned in your picks etc - a few pictures in there of what you do would help, I think. 'Builder' is a broad term, what do you build? Pictures in picks would be a nice advertisment for you. Going on the name of your business, your profile picture and the groups you are a member of, I would assume you make BDSM items or something similar.
You have nothing on your real life. Not even 'I like to keep my SL and rl seperate' or something. Personally, I find it a little harder to warm to people with nothing on there. Why? Well, partly coz I am a strange old bugger, but also as I have so little to go on when meeting someone in SL, no visuals, so to speak. I like a few more clues as to the person's character, see.
Finally, the very first line on your profile says you are 'Owned by Mistress Mikell Henerle. Any problems IM her'. Lets straight away clarify that I have nothing against subs - I was one myself for six months. However, in my experience, sometimes subs are harder to deal with in business as they are not always 'allowed' to make all their own decisions. I don't know if this aspect of your SL is totally seperate to your business, but again, it might make me a little confused. Especially as I can not find your Mistress in Search at all. I would have trouble contacting her if I can not find her.
Again, I hope you don't mind my comments. I wish you all the very best luck in your future ventures, hon. *hugs*

Elgyfu's post solidifies my own comments...... It takes time to learn these things....
