It's been three months, and I've yet to receive a weekly stipend. What could be the cause of this? And has anyone else had the same issue?

What's your account type? If you have a basic account, you get nothing; if you have a premium account it's currently L$300/week.

Basic accounts used to get L$50/week ... but that was changed a long time ago. It's likely there's something on the website that wasn't updated.

Oh, what are the benefits of premium btw?

1. You get the weekly stipend
2. You can buy land on the Mainland
3. You have the ability to submit a support ticket or engage in a text chat session with LL Support (better support level than Basic Account)
4. L$1,000 sign-up bonus (45 days after you join)
5. Having 'payment information on file' will give you access to some areas of SL that ban unverified members

Have I missed anything?

Note that if you sign up for a year, the weekly stipend almost pays that back. But I advise trying monthly ($9.95) membership for a bit to ensure you like it before you pay $72 for a year. You can upgrade at any time; it kicks in with your next billing cycle.

As others will no doubt point out, if you just want to rent land on an Island, rather than buying your own land on the Mainland from LL, there is no real need to be Premium. However, be aware that your Landlord can sell up and evict you at any time with no recourse available to you. So if you go this route choose one of the well-established Landlords with a good reputation (there are other threads on this Forum with suggestions).

Buying land on the Mainland has its advantages and disadvantages. It's unrestricted, so you might not like what your neighbours do, but you also can do what you like... (PG/Mature restrictions permitting). You pay 'Tier' to LL (if you own more than 512 m2) rather than paying rent to a Landlord.

But of course, if you have no wish to have a house or store, and don't want to build or do landscaping, then there is no need to own or rent land... Socialising and exploring is free, shopping you can fund via PayPal or CC... ;)

I think thats the easiest and most well written explanation of what a premium account holds that i have seen in a very long time!
I think if I had seen this one when i was considering to go premium it would have made it very understandable for me!!

the 1,000L bonus is from your accounts creation date... I know it's clear as mud especially when signup from premium signup makes more sense.

You can have that by just being basic (entering billing info) and anyway a premium user translates into "Payment info used", which is the status of a basic account used to buy some L$.

I too, am on a basic account and get the $50 a week. I suppose if I upgraded, and then later if I ever downgraded back to free...I would lose the $50 stipend on it? I guess it would be better to just sign up for another account and pay for premium status right away? I would get $300 stipend on that plus keep getting the $50 stipend on the one I have now.

"Grandfathered" basic accounts get L$50 a week. However, this was at the time when you HAD to enter credit card information in order to create a basic account. When registration was opened up the basic stipend had to be removed in order to prevent people creating unlimited basic accounts and recieving unlimited L$.

Not only did you have to enter the credit card info, you paid the 9.95 USD too. It was how I started.. only I'm a 'grandfathered' premium now ;)

At the time, many were upset at the removal of the L$50 a week for new accounts.. because as usual, LL didn't explain exactly what they were doing it for. Nevermind the fact that we went crazy when we found out that they were removing the 'verification,' process too!

Just look for the weekly "Where's My Stipend???" or somesuch post. One will invariably show up (usually around 10 am) and you will notice that it is Tuesday again.

How much space is 512 meters exactly? Can you build a small home with a few different rooms or is it more like a single room studio apartment?

Its small. Just big enough for low prim houses & not much else.

I forget what the prim limits are, but if you want a way to learn to build efficiently it works.

Hmm I see, thank you. I was thinking of upgrading outta basic so I could build a house. Sounds like my best route would be maybe bidding on a plot? I am still kinda new to SL and really spend all my time at clubs with friends. I haven't looked into owning land until today so I am pretty confused. I would like a small house or cabin or something... is a 512 not going to be what I am looking for and is bidding on a plot the best way to own a piece of land outright?

I have a little three-room house from Blip that I use as a skybox...it's meant to fit a 512m and the rooms aren't huge, but it's plenty of room as far as I'm concerned. I actually own 3072m and feel no need to get a larger home. *shrug*

btw, it's only 19 prims of the 117 a 512m is allowed, and quite nicely textured. :)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

wow that's pretty cool, thank you. I saw a skybox last night for the first time which what gave me the idea of owning my own land. So a 512 is about that size? If so that would be perfect for me for now I think.

It depends on the skybox...some are made for larger plots of land. I think all of the Blip and Ace's Spaces homes tell you what plot size they fit, so you might follow the slurl and rez a few to get a better idea of how much space that would be: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Deco/193/156/27
