That's a standard LL feature... Emerald Greenlife goes further. Including a built in scanner, other location options, and doubleclick to TP. (^_^)
The "double-click to TP" function RAWKS!!! Seriously - it makes getting around lag-infested malls SO much easier!

FWIW, the avatar radar in GLE does not make it too much easier to stalk people than the normal official viewer does. One can already open a map and tp directly to wherever green dots are. Use this in conjunction with the minimap (to see the yellow dots), and you're in business. Even without that, simply disabling camera restraints and camming around will pretty much allow total stalkability on the same sim. Throw in Mystitool's "TP to cam" feature, and you've got GLE's functionality in a nutshell. As OP pointed out, GLE's features only work within the same sim anyways.

Yes right, I do like that radar inside GreenLife viewer very much. Its much better than other radars.

*** The very very fast way, the radar works

** The "zoom" to avatar on double click on the avatar name if they are in range

**the Teleport button to the Avatar

** the "age" of the avatar tells you the age in days (inside SL)

** Client info tells you which client the avatar use ^^

** The "Track" function makrs the avatar with a visible red track line so you can see them not looking at the radar (super for fights)

** The "Mark" function" makes same/similar

The cool thing is - you can open the radar window when needed and close it if you dont need it - much better than attaching any HUD

However - if you prefer the avatars listed on your screen within a HUD you can get LordGregGreg Back radar HUD which works with the GreenLife viewer - its free

That now must be a joke of you!!!!

U have been around since 2006 and you don't know about the VERY EASY way to see your location within a SIM?

Almost every scanner tool finds you and even it is only shown the distance in meters even a 10 years old kid would find you! So where is a problem?

Le sigh.

I have a home brew scanner tool. Ive known of their existance since my second day in SL. It doesnt mean I want any old Joe Bloggs randomly TPing into my location especially if its some where they shouldnt be or if Im doing something I need to concentrate on.

So dont assume.

I am very sorry I need to disagree with you.

Do you go into a pub in RL and call the police if someone "looks" at you?

The "Teleport to Avatar" button makes it easy to teleport directly to you never mind if you are working in 3950meter with prims or even higher with other things. It is often useful to have THIS button and its not there to stalk - so its the usage of this button. On other hand, there are 100 other ways to teleport or move to your location without this button.

It sound a bit strange for me if you write "invasion of privacy" into you profile after 3 years of SL experinces. It looks like you don't know how things happen in SL.

I don't want to say your privacy is save without any button coz big brother is always watching you - so be sure you are never alone. But if you want avatars stay away from you - use the privacy tools. And if you want YOUR friends stay away from you a single word should be allowed right?

Somewhere in my inventory, I have an avie scanner that was freely available in 2004. It reminded me of an orrery: it had a ball with a name above it, that of the avatar whose sim location corresponded to the scaled vector of the displayed colored ball. It would also whisper name and I think location of the avie, when s/he came into range and left it again. Using it as a warning device, we used to sit on the deck of a friend who had a stray avie problem: strays would find us and presume we wanted to talk about any old thing, or even sometimes shoot at us. We called that river of avies the Great Northern Flyway. :-)

There was one in with my old avatar's stuff and it still works! The one I have was from Forestrock Flower. That's kind of cool how some things never change, either some of the gadgets or random nooblets popping into houses (we're next to a pair of noob-friendly sims and still get the random visits even 4000m up) =)

Wow.......some of you guys must lead really really fascinating SLives wth all this talk of scanners and people teleporting in unannounced. :p I mean really .... this is actually a problem? Who would do that? Are they 12yo's?

I've been in SL three years.....never....never never ever had any kind of problem with invasion of privacy (a term I use loosely anyway because I don't take my avatar all that seriously and I really could care less in the SL world sees her nekkid....whoopdedoo) But....even beyond that....there isn't anyone on my frinds list that I would for any reason need to keep from seeing where I am on the map.......nor would I even think to worry that they might teleport to me. If I want someone to land in front of me....well I figure that's what the 'offer teleport' feature is all about.

But these little sneaky nifty tools just crack me up.....makes me wonder what kind of people actually feel the need to use this stuff? Ok, so maybe I'm a bit lacking in the whole SL pseudo-drama social scene.....but that's by choice and because I just wouldn't even bother with anyone who showed signs of that kind of stalking/immature behavior. And....I pity the wingnut that ever did try any crap like that with me.

(not something I need to blast all over my profile, it's a just a fact, I don't tolorate BS)

Perhaps that is the attitude to adopt.....if all these people are abusing this device......um....get em the funk off your friends list and be rid of em. If you want friends like that.....then, that's really a form a self abuse, dontcha think?

Yep, from talking to some of these surprise visitors, I get the impression that some really are kids. Others are just brand new and exploring a place that's still unfamiliar. I generally don't mind them, as long as they haven't mistaken SL for a battleground and us for targets =)

I have, quite frankly gotten very fed up with people using the greenlife function where they can just port to me as if they had "see my location" enabled (As long as they are in the same sim) If I wanted people to be able to do it, I would grant people map rights.

When I joined SL, anyone you made friends with could see your location on the big map and tp directly to you no matter where you were on the Entire Grid (a tiny little grid at the time). In the heady days of early community love, everyone friended each other willy-nilly. After a while, it became very apparent that many people had never been taught proper manners by their parents and a lot of us begged for a way to stop people from randomly tping in behind us and scaring the bejesus out of us or interrupting situations where privacy was desired.

The ablility to make yourself "invisible" on the map was debated with arguements that people could still deduct your location thru various means, from "pick-stalking" (where people would visit the locations listed in your picks to try to find you{when Picks were actually used to list places you liked to hang out and not just as another way to game the Search function}) to simply knowing where your home was and checking the map to see if there where any green dot at that location.

In the end, the Friends List was updated to Contacts and the ability to hide your in-world location on the map from the people on your Contacts list was added. There was much rejoicing.

In comparision, the Greenlife viewers ability to tp you directly to another avatar in the same sim seems pretty benign since there are a lot of devices that make that possible already.

I have now, placed a note on my profile saying;

"NOTE!! Any one that uses the greenlife stalkability functions on me will immediately be removed from my friends list, muted and ARed for invasion of privacy."

If I was to go through with the ARing. Would it have any mind paid to it by LL? I really do find it wrong to be doing something private only to have a friend you hardly know port in and find out your dity little secrets.

Fortunately that hasnt happened how ever on many occasions Ive had people porting in on my while Im working then get ratty at me when I ignore them because Im working.

Oh whatever.

Must suck to be so popular.

Once another avatar is in the sim with you, there are a number of ways of locating you immediately so whining about Green Life is really useless.

And i never notice a login problem and i have a 2k+ friends list.

Wow you go from "Friend to Enemy" in a double-click.

Believe me, any so-called friend muting and ARing me just because I appeared next to them to say 'hi' or a quick visit, is not a friend worth having and evidently was never a friend from the start.

let me guess, you just turn up unannounced at someone's house in rl and just walk in right?

Some people don't mind unexpected visitors, some do. Someone would have to be a really close friend of mine for me to not turn em away, not even if they drove a hundred miles for it. Rude? Anti-social? Maybe you call it so, I call it anti-social to barge in and think you can alter my precious free time to your requirements.

Just know who you're dealing with. If you don't, then you're obviously not as good a "friend" as you thought you were.

Kramer always did it.

I guess it really depends on the where. If you are out "in public" then there's really no big deal, it is like someone walking up to you on the street in RL, but at "home" people just popping in unannounced would annoy me.

People are in my friends list for a reason.

I never mind visitors. Appearing at awkward time however can always be considered rude, especially since with GL you can get close enough to get a view of where you are about to TP to before doing so.

Sorry, i come from a time in SL where anyone could do this to anyone at any given time, so i am way less uptight about that the rest of you.

It did not bother me then, it does not bother me now.

People do stop by my house unexpected in RL and i hate it. But at the same time, in RL when people stop by, i can't say "AFK" and go away until they leave or make up an excuse to teleport, so there is really no comparing the two.

You can choose not to answer the door, like I do every saturday morning when a certain group of proselytizers come a calling. They can't cam through the walls and see you are home, however.

I used to get visitors like that until I started opening the door naked. I think I am on some sort of a blacklist now.

Pep (I'm inside my house; I can dress or not as I like.)

PS You think I am awkward here?

It's not the fact that you are naked alone at home wanting girls come inside your house, it's more the smell of your breath. Don't YOU still follow your wifes advises to drink more water than Scotch or Whiskey?

P(ee)p (GreenLife offers a "Zoom to Avatar" button so you can observe from a save distance)
