What I don't get is... I WAS on 1.19.1.4 and I got that update notice but it seems non of you did if you were on 1.19.1.4. and if it is the offical release why did I get the manditory update notice..which if you don't install you can't run SL on the last version you were on...which AGAIN WAS 1.19.1.4

SL does weird shit fairly often? That's all the answer I have if you were already on 1.19.1.4.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I think you were most likely running the release candidate version 1.19.1.4 and not the 1.19.1.4 main release. Only people running the release candidate version should have received the mandatory upgrade notice.

Linden Labs probably should have made people upgrade to the main release when Windlight went into the main viewer, that would have eliminated much of the confusion now and really there was no good reason to be running the older release candidate version once it went into the main viewer anyway.

This new release is indeed buggy - but I love the interface change. Although, not being able to permanently dock the mini-map is starting to piss me off.

I don't care for the interface color. Black was so much more streamlined. Less garish. Would be nice if they'd put in a way to choose what color you want to see on the interface.

I didn't realize there is two versions of 1.19.1.4....I was on the RC version then.

I install 1.19.1.4 from the links posted and I'm back in. Thanks for posting those links guys :)

I'm pretty sure the confusion all started because the very last RC in the 1.19.1 sequence was identical to the actual 1.19.1.4 release--except, of course, it was a release candidate, so when a new release candidate came out, you couldn't use the old one anymore. So you had a choice of downloading the released version of the very same software you'd been running as an RC, or the new RC.

So, I've been playing with the new RC, dazzle and all. FWIW, I think Dazzle is truly gawdawful, both from a graphic design and a legibility standpoint, but that's not my greatest concern about the RC. It includes several "developer inspired fixes"--stuff in the DEV jira that doesn't make it to the pjira we all know and love. And they're mistakes.

One really dumb one is double-tap to run. Click the up arrow and click it again quickly and hold, and you're running. This breaks existing content.

The Friends pulldown on the Map is now gone, supposedly because people didn't understand that friends needed to allow you to map them in order to be populated there. So, rather than document it or, heaven forfend, add some context-sensitive help text, they just removed the feature. (Yes, you can still map friends from the friends list.)

And the one that really burns because it breaks *my* content is the change that a seated avatar cannot sit on another target with one click (that is, they have to stand first). Why? (Note that this isn't a bug in the RC, this is an intentional change somebody made.)

There are some jiras on a couple of these already. What mystifies me, though, is why are there developers working such dubious improvements when there's just so much that's really wrong with the viewer code? I mean, if these were open source developers and their "fixes" got merged-in, maybe with the idea of getting user feedback, then fine. But if this stuff came from inside LL... *shakes head*

Hehe, I love you Gabriele :)
I had 1.18.5 (3) still installed since I tried the first windlight verison that fixed the glowies..I forget which one it was. I thot I would try it and since it was telling me to update to 1.19.1.4...which I was already on up until today's manditory notice in the connection screen to update to 1.20. 1.19.1.4 installed fine and I didn't get the manditory update notice...yet.

For what it's worth, I now have 1.19.0.5, 1.19.1.4, and Dazzle 1.19.0 all installed side-by-side. The latter won't work anymore, but seeing as how my framerate is unacceptable with WindLight, I'm not going to upgrade it. I'll stick with 1.19.0.5 as long as possible at least on my laptop; I haven't tried Windlight on my desktop yet.

But, as it happens, I liked the Dazzle interface for the most part. Better contrast, far superior font. The icons, for the most part, are worse. People should know better than to try to make tiny icons look 3D.

I already uninstalled your old answer (AL ver.1.19.01.4) and and now running with this post (AL ver.1.20.01), which so far is working beautifully, except for the fact that my shoe is up my ass.

Agreed - much easier to read, although the icons are way overdone. And like Ann, I'm no fan of Windlight, especially given the issues for Mac users who haven't yet upgraded to Leopard. Give me a more stable environment over bright and shiny gizmos any day.

My 2 Cents:

I installed RC 1.20.

It works. I'm not keen on the light blue colors, but thats just a minor thing.

The world map seemed to pop into view alot quicker. The text on buttons is a bit more noticeable. Things seemed to rezz quicker too.

I havent had the chance to try it in a heavy traffic area. Will do that later & see how it goes.

I just reinstalled my OS and downloaded the SL client thats available on the website. Really strange but, when i first logged in all looked normal. I logged out for an hour or two came back and thought my video card had blown! OMG its awful...is that "Dazzle"? The buttons will all that psychodelic crap on them, i can't understand the new icons and the interactive map is horrible!

Here's some love for Ann and everyone else that helped <3 :)

I'm just wondering ...no one has said they had the problem of flying without a command and couldn't not stay standing on the ground in 1.20.1

I installed another 2Gb of memory earlier today for 4GB total..well what XP Pro 32 bit sees and I was on for about 5 hours tonite in 1.19.1.4. So far I had no freezes, but was not in too heavy traffic areas. Previously I froze up alot.

Dazzle 1.20.1 doesn't look psychodelic, it's light blue like this forum. I personally dont like it. The icons since RC are bad. I dont know why they change things to make them worse...Everyone seems to do that to almost every program when they update it. I think matbe your card is having problems if you are seeing that.

I tried the Dazzle the same day I tried The Windlights. It was quickly binned. The color scheme was just not agreeable to my eyes, after 20 minutes or so it just became a blue blob. The actual XP'ish look didn't bother me, and I really can't say how it performed in that short of time. I'm staying withe the BE-V.

It's not just your eyes. There are some things we actually *know* about how the brain processes text images, and some of that has been in Human Factors Engineering guides for decades. One rule is that blue text is hard to read. Really. And it's really, really hard to read on a blue background. And it's got nothing to do with contrast levels: it can look "real purty an' all," and still give high error rates and slow response times. And there's honest to god physiology behind why this happens. Yet, graphic designers insist on making this same mistake over and over again because it looks "real purty an' all."

But as I've said before on this thread, this isn't the most b0rked part of the 1.20.0 RC. There's some massive process problem here that introduces misfeatures from the DEV jira. There are public jira entries now to roll-back a few of the worst mistakes:

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6232 (Double-tap to run, reverts DEV-4706)

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6243 (Friends menu in Map, reverts DEV-4898)

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6278 (mine: Single-click to sit by seated avatar, reverts DEV-3677)

Today I'm gonna try to track down how these things made it into the RC code base. I just can't believe they ever made it past a triage session attended by residents. (It's another whole question how they ever made it past an internal review attended by anybody who'd ever spent time in-world.)

Not that I have seen it or anything, but for those who don't like the look of the dazzle colours...i think i saw a thread linking a place where you can d/l 'skins' for the UI. i think it makes them diff colours.
i may have got it completely wrong though lol. If I have, just forget I posted lol.

Yep, that's /327/6d/252301/1.html, Thraxis Epsilon's work on a kind of semi-hard-coded alternate "skin" for Dazzle. Eventually, Dazzle will be user-skinnable without this kind of hard work, but it's a great contribution in the interim.

Second thing is they still haven't fixed the minimized inventory and chat windows to stay where you put them after you restore them and minimize them again...they go back to the bottom of the screen. This was broken since the first RC version. Doesn't this bother any of you?

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5530 -- yes, it bothers me too.
