Forced To Install Yet Another Broken Version

As usual we are forced to install yet another broken version... Dazzle First Look Viewer: 1.20.0.84432

Does anyone else have these problems in this latest or other RC viewer?

First thing is they changed the appearance to a crapy light blue color. it's too bright and distracting even when semi transparent. Change it back LL! Fix what you broke don't waist time on something we don't want.

Second thing is they still haven't fixed the minimized inventory and chat windows to stay where you put them after you restore them and minimize them again...they go back to the bottom of the screen. This was broken since the first RC version. Doesn't this bother any of you?

Third...After just logging in I appear to get bumped and start flying with no one around. I didn't do anything to fly. I bounce up and down and the camera moves in and out all on it's own. I click stop flying or use page down, but soon as I touch the ground I start flying again. Way to go LL!

I have yet to see what esle they broke....I know there will be more.

When is LL going to fix things instead of breaking more things and not fixing what they broke in the first place. I'n really getting tired of all this LL incompetence.

You don't have to install it. It's test software available if you WANT to help LL track down bugs.

Why would you have to use the RC rather than the main client?

Nope Ann is right - you have the option of installing and using the Released Viewer instead. That is less broken :)

Again, Release Candidates are TEST SOFTWARE...they're going to have problems. The reason LL makes them available is so the community can help them find and fix said problems before they move to main viewer status.

From the download page:

From: someone
Release Candidate viewers are optional viewer downloads that contain the latest bug fixes and/or soon-to-be-released new features. This is your opportunity to test out our soon-to-be released viewers -- BEFORE they are the primary download -- and let us know about anything we may have missed during our internal testing.

It's a manditory install for RC..it's Dazzle...LL dazzle us with incompetence.

...and of course I found another problem...The drop down menus don't stay open. If you can't click fast enough, you are out of luck.

This really ruins my SL experience. I really can't do much now.

Maybe we need to boycot SL for a while...maybe LL will get the hind...we don't like what they are doing.

Too bad they don't read our posts...

This new release is indeed buggy - but I love the interface change. Although, not being able to permanently dock the mini-map is starting to piss me off.

Sheesh too bad you don't either. Report the bugs and switch to using the released viewer then you can get stuff done until they fix the problems so you can continue to test it on a new version.

Fine, but saying you're being forced to do something when you have at least two other options available is inaccurate.

RC viewers are beta products. If you don't want to play with buggy beta products then uninstall the RC client and go back to the regular viewer and quit whining. Sheesh.

oh for the love of crumb cake...You are not supposed to use the test version (First Look) unless you wish to help test, nobody forces you to do this. The official released viewer is available v1.19.1.4 and is recommended when you just want things to work (mostly).

At least one other virtual world appears to have changed to menu system where the menus vanish if you don't jerk your mouse over into the menu area very quickly. This appears to be by intent, not a mistake. (It is a mistake, but one made on purpose.:()

I hope LL isn't doing this too.

Oo.o I actually like the sound of that because I like uncluttered but I agree they should stop messing about with it already.

What viewer are you using?

The only way they would tell you it was mandatory is if you were already using an RC viewer. You have to click through a couple links on the download pages to get to it, so you must have downloaded it voluntarily at some point.

The main viewer now is 1.19.1.4, here on the first download page: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php

The non-Windlight 1.19.0.5 is also still available here: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/04/03/the-new-viewer-a-well-oiled-machine/#more-1820

Release Candidates are here: http://secondlife.com/community/downloads-optional.php

I'm personally using Nicholaz's 18.5.3 viewer. http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/2007/12/release-bleeding-edge-be-v.html

hmm.. I do not mind the blue color, but I'm not sure it looks a bit like america online.. that was my first thought, of course it has been years and years since I used that POS portal.. um

I have to say, this.. I get flickering video. Also, invalid paramater again with my audio, I crash at EVERY live show I go to. (and sometimes on my land listening to audio) which caused a great deal of trouble with my ex because if I used the voice, I do crash. SO I didn't use it and he thought I was a man, i think... NEWAY, it was 2 clients ago RC, or maybe the first one.. hmm.. neway I did not get that error and life was good. then the last one FROZE MY PC, I HAD TO HARD RESTART IT. BAD BAD BAD FOR MY PC.
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, here I am not just the client crashing but my whole friggin PC. The video freezes, and I get that stupid skipping audio.. horrible..

SO, as it is not required, or forced.. If you enjoy windlight, which I think for the most part we do.. It is forced. (well, you know you have to install it)

Please address the audio and video issues! Obviously, this one is NOT working well with Vista. So if anyone has a heads up on how to get the invalid paramater error resolved, please tell me. One thing I do on SL and why I stay mostly, is the live music shows, now I can not even enjoy that.
(yes yes yes I know I can use the reg viewer) ; )

What the heck?!?

The new release candidate is only required if you want to test. (and people with attitudes should never run test software, as they are known to possibly not work right).

If you were using the last release candidate, install the official release (not candidate) instead... it is the same thing and will NOT force you to use the new release candidate.
