It is September 30 and the SL landscape has greatly improved already. I have seen many of the legitimate advertisers working to pull their ad towers, etc., into compliance, and I have seen many 'for sale' signs come down...but not all of them. I still see some things remaining, though. I am assuming that some are probably 'small time' griefers/extortionists who aren't even aware of the upcoming changes, some belong to people who don't even log in to SL anymore, and some are just going to wait and let LL pull the ads down themselves (probably in hopes that they will never get to it).
Before I go charging around the various sims my partner and I have land on, I am wondering...how should those remaining violaters be handled?
I'm thinking that LL will probably be inundated with AR's in the next few weeks. Should we go running around reporting everything we see? As much as I would LOVE to do that, I'm wondering if it would really be the best way. Should we just keep to our own areas and only report those violators that we can actually see from our own land? Police our own areas so to speak?
My partner says if everyone was to go charging off like he knows I want to, filled with righteous indignation, LL will be so overwhelmed that nothing will get done. So what do you guys think?

I have to agree with your partner. If you see something obvious in your area then, of course, report it. But to just go off all over the grid filing AR after AR just because you can might not be the best course of action at this point.
Even at that, I suspect LL is going to be overwhelmed by the volume of reports coming in and we just have to give them time to deal with it.

If you come across something in your daily travels, report it. But to wander around just looking for things to AR seems small minded and petty to me.I wouldn't do it.

Call me daft, but I have no idea what you guys are talking about. I looked on the blog and saw nothing special about tomorrow.
What's happening on October 1 that has everyone chomping at the bit?

I do think that if people run around looking for ad farms to AR, then LL will become so inundated with ARs that they will just give up like they did when they added the ad farm extortion policy.

Plus, when the average citizen takes the law into his own hands, the definition of said law sometimes get a bit fuzzy, as we all interpret it differently. As badly as they seem to do it, policing SL should be LL's job, and theirs alone, in my opinion.

Personally, I'm not going out looking for anything. I'll just AR the few that I know about in the sims where I have a presence, and I'll also AR any that I come across on my limited travels. I think that everything should get covered without me running round looking for extras.

I frankly think we'll see much of the remaining junk disappear, AR'd or not. There's nothing in the stated policy that says it's solely up to the residents to find violations--this is a different ballgame now. With Concierge (*not* G-Team) responsible, perhaps the first few days will be spent in a broad sweep of Mainland sims, actively removing offenses and warning offenders. Maybe only after that will they start looking at ARs.
One of the reasons I'd expect this is the 50-ad limit. Now, a lot of those have been removed by the larger adrunners (or at least alpha'd), but I know of at least one that is currently violating both this provision and the 1-ad-per-sim limit of the new policy. The thing is, I happen to know this, but in general, I'll bet there are lots more, and only LL can really know that the 50-ad limit has been breached.

I'm just going to travel around SL looking at the land of the righteous little buggers who think their vigilante war on 'ANYTHING' they don't like should be removed and AR them for ANYTHING that they have that looks crap, because from reading the posts by some in the adfarm thread just looks like a list of 'My Agenda's' rather than what actually is for the good or the bad of SL.
But to be truthful, I'm not going to waste my time with mindless little Hitlers.
I have already noticed a dissapointing trend, PERSONAL IM conferences being called 'Spamming', public information IMs that inform of best creator builds that are there to make SL a more interesting place and not to sell anything, which imo everyone should have some interest in, being called 'Spam' and some questions in groups which are only slightly off topic being called 'Spam', it's a question morons! And all these being threatened with ARs.
In today's climate a AR ban is sanctioned by SL as default, whether the report is honest or not and takes ages to appeal against, some of these people being ARd against are some of the biggest creators in SL and day by day less are going to be bothered about fighting against false accusations and not come back, so SL will just remain with the crud of life.
I don't know how many people have thought of this, but SL AR policy is based on fear, fear of making a mistake, fear of saying the wrong thing to the wrong moron, fear of being ARd and banned and fear of not getting your account back, this is just so wrong, no government (LL) should ever be allowed to control its residents by fear.
Maybe somewhere, LL should state that someone who makes repetitively bad ARs that are based purely on prejudice or ignorance should be warned themselves.

The adfarms around my land disappeared for the most part, but there is one down the road, but out of my sight, that I do intend to AR. Call me petty, but I plan to be online tonight and AR it as soon as the clock strikes midnight. I'm not a bit ashamed to say it will give me great satisfaction.

I totally agree with you on these points and I hope LL takes action at some point against those that file stupid/revenge/frivolous ARs. I also think its up to the people who live in the Sims and that are affected by these ad farms that should file ARs as its hurting them and not the small minded people that travel the grid looking for stuff to AR just because LL says its gonna be outlawed/forbidden, seems to me on the face of it that some people don't have anything better to do with their time/RL's and really have a vigilante attitude more reminiscent of pre war Germany and post war Russia to cite two instances. Thank god LL doesn't give its powers out, outside of the company.

Daniel Linden's "Squeal on Your Neighbor" call has finally become a reality.

Daniel Linden's "Squeal on Your Neighbor" call has finally become a reality. And is now the time to start using more emotive language, than simply whipping your pants off? your carefully constructed diplomatic phrases (which I have enjoyed since being in the forums) probably goes over the heads of those who should better understand (i.e. they're dumb).

From: Ciaran Laval Items for sale are appearing on 16M plots. but you know, I don't really have a problem with that. It's their land, let them use it as they will, as long as their will doesn't include glow, rezzers, spinning cubes, particle beacons, asian girls who want a date or sales of photos to assist in self gratification. I have never had a problem with advertising, it's part of life and it never surprised me to see it in SL. The big problem IMO is the people who used advertising as an excuse to harass and annoy people in an attempt to get them to pay greatly inflated prices for their land in order to get rid of them. It is only because they disguised these as advertising that the more responsible advertisers are affected by the whole thing. Case in point: near a parcel we own in Nadata, there is a small lot next to a nice looking house. On that lot are 2 full glow ads for those freebie skins you see everywhere (glow is so high you can't even read the ads lol) with 6 particle beacons shooting up into the air and a few other things on the lot. The land is set as not for sale, but the land description says "For sale to neighbors (sic) for $xxxxLindens (I forget the amount at the moment)". I should say it WAS next to a nice house, last week. I looked at it yesterday, and the nice house is gone. Is he an advertiser? No. He's a griefer.

If the purpose were just to please existing landowners and sim visitors, then there'd be little reason for LL to do anything beyond responding to (local) ARs. But--I don't know which parts of the Mainland folks have experienced, but there are whole dead regions... microparcel-diced sims that go for days without any traffic except stray bots, large forgotten chunks held by Governor and the rest just--who knows?--fell through the cracks when the accounts lapsed, maybe. It's places like these where even L$-denominated auctions of reclaimed land go without bids now.
It's really not up to residents to police these areas--there's no call for "vigilante justice"--but it is very much in LL's own interest to clean them up to the point that somebody might be willing to bid the minimum and start paying tier again on some of it. Otherwise LL is losing money every day that those sims take up server space.
