seriously - the bid is 264 and very thin bid orders, usually you see a 8 digit bid at 265

yah last i checked, 'falling' was good
(in terms of sellers, not consumers... well maybe that -is- bad)the lab does some 'treasury dept.' stuff to try to keep the L level without fluctuating too fast. it was first 266 to the dollar; then for a long time was 265, now lately looks like 264... i dunno, is that a weakening dollar in contrast actually?? p.s. if you want more Ls to the dollar (buying in), try slExchange instead - but 'buyer beware', just an alternative market to shop by - both lindex and slEx have a market buy but they are rather radically different in how they determine rates; leave it up to you to discern... _____________________

Since I never buy L$ this is a good day for me I can just sell all mine now and park it as USD until I have enough to make it worth the $1 fee to transfer it out. There are consequences it to it gaining against the USD like it being tougher for people to afford L$ to spend in world but if you're one of those people (like me) that just sell then the ideal rate is L$1 == US$1.

Classifieds have been made largely useless by the new search, this means less money in the sinks to prop up L$ supply.

A half hour ago someone or LL dumped 5 million to keep it from going lower than $264. It's down to 4 million already.

A half hour ago someone or LL dumped 5 million to keep it from going lower than $264. It's down to 4 million already. Whoever did it was just throwing their money away, unless LL props it up artificially again it will just keep dropping until it hits a stable point which I think will be a lot lower than current price. I personally wish they'd stop artificially manipulating it and just let the market determine the exchange rate, yes that may hurt some people but it would be an honest price and one that would actually reflect the true state of the SL economy. _____________________

i'm not the betting type plus it's illegal that a stronger consumer 'dollar' is better. take that, neo-sl-capitalists!!;0_____________________

The value of the Linden made a surprise move today without either rising or falling by changing it's location along eight of the ten imperceptible spatial dimensions predicted by string and M-theory.

YES they do! they have a 'greenspan' kinda person regulating the economy, and for good reasons, it seems. world history is full of historical examples of economic models and control. still, it seems so in its infancy, that micro-economy models like this could set great examples for the real world. maybe. probably. i hope. ![]() nothing will ever supplant a true material economy though, i figure... i think we will eventually convert to an entirely vr+agrarian economy. grow it for food or for fuel... i know it's not too efficient but it's gotta be more efficient than waiting 4-10 million years for fossil fuels... it's a step ![]() p.s. here's the article!! http://secondlife.reuters.com/stories/2006/10/15/greenspanning-sl-linden-keeps-the-economy-humming/ _____________________

I'll admit there is blind faith involved in anarcho-capitalism it beats blind faith in the lindens to peg the currency in a way that make buyers and sellers happy and without ruining the economy or at least making buyers and selling reasonably content and only somewhat ruining the economy, and us anrcho-capitalists have better parties.

Ohh LOL I care less about whether they regulate it and more about not having to see those inane threads Obviously the L$ is probably valued wrong, that helps explain why the USD spent on Lindens per day has been so flat for the last year, while the concurrency and population have gone way up. |

A half hour ago someone or LL dumped 5 million to keep it from going lower than $264. It's down to 4 million already. Interesting. Enthusiasm on the part of buyers, perhaps buoyed by the news of the day, coupled with large-volume sellers appearing not to have decided that the sky was falling and it was time to sell off. Either there was a lot of manipulation or the "market" reacted favorably.... _____________________

Whenever I sell L$ I always 'dump it.' I'll pick the highest sell value that has less than a million L$ against it. Last year it was always L$267. This year it's been L$266. Today was the first time I ever sold at L$264. I was upset I'd already dumped most of my L$ at 266 a few days ago!

My sell order at 262 went through a little while ago. I've never seen it like this.

It is well possible LL decided to lower supply lindens 'selling rate'.
The current decline of the US$ and the fact the L$ is directly linked to it, has caused a huge inflation of the L$, compared to other currencies. As still over 50% of the residents/users in SL is non-us, they have either as consumers profited heavily, or as businesses taken a big loss on the current L$ inflation. (The reverse is true for US residents.) Moving the supply Lindens, L$ selling point and the subsequent lowering of the US->L$ rate, is basically nothing more than long time due correction. Which should slightly level the playing field again. _____________________

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.
