Personally, I use FireFox.

Although, I can't play Youtube videos on it because Vista is stupid.

I use Firefox and my Vista plays YouTube videos fine.

And why my primary is now Gmail. Shame. I'd been with Hotmail since before Microsoft bought it.

I had been as well, though I dropped 'em back in the late 1990s when it became apparent that Microsoft was selling Hotmail users email addresses to some of the worst spammers on the internet. I put my own server up after that.

I can confirm the bug, and Argent seems to imply that he has experienced it as well.

I've read the whole thread, I can't see where Argent mentioned that.

As someone suggested earlier, just chill dude. You're kind of grasping at straws now, finding tiny insignificant reasons to hammer away at Phil, and being needlessly condescending in the process.

I think you're confusing me with Phil there, I've been civil towards him, despite his surreptitious spreading of misinformation.

Quite sure. I'm using Vista, which might make a difference.

Vista = Windows; it's the version I was testing against as well.

Back to topic:

I received an auto-update last night. Unfortunately updates don't say what they are. Does anyone know if MS has sent a fix out for the browser problem?

You should be able to check your Programs control panel to see what was installed most recently (as hotfixes are shown there as well). I haven't heard of a patch for the IE bug yet; and if it's anything like previous microsoft security bugs, the timespan on fixing that is ~6 weeks (IIS/MSSQL bug that made NIMDA and Code Red possible) to never (the poor security model and lack of privilege separation by default that makes destructive viruses commonplace on that platform).

I did, I don't think it's necessarily Firefox's fault. This BBS has been hacked for years by Linden Labs... and it's written in bloody PHP to begin with... so it's quite likely to be depending on undefined behavior somewhere.

Aah, OK. Still wrong to fault a browser for a webmonger's stupidity, though.

It looks like it was a fix for it. There were two parts of the update (only one update shown when actually doing it):-

Definition Update for Windows Defender

Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista (KB960714)

The KB960714 page says nothing about it but it links to a page which shows details for the regular monthly update of the 9tth Dec., but says nothing about this one. So I reckon it's the fix.

That's sort of a leap of logic there... you say there's nothing stating that that's the fix, yet you assume it is? How exactly did you come to that conclusion?

It's a security update. The KB page that the actual update refers to (KB960714) talks in general about updates and links to the details of it, but the details don't list this particular update. Yes it's a leap, but I did say that "I reckon it's the fix" and not that it *is* the fix. The clue is the wording ;)
