Can I get some of whatever the hell it is they be smoking at LL? Anyone who bought a class 5 sim with $295 a month tier and thought they were going to resell for anywhere near $1675 was smoking the exact same stuff. I read recently that the average resale on a class 5 is a bit over $1000. Frankly, I think that cheaper land benefits SL in the long run. The cost of land is a big prohibiting factor for most people. _____________________

Aww come on - nobody in this world (SL or RL) who buys anything should expect the price to stay the same for resale and prices go down as well as up.

It's obvious who does and does not own Islands in these posts. I for one don't have ears for those who don't. But go ahead get one now they're cheap! Next year you can wipe your bum with them. |

Oh this is nice. I just bought an island one month ago, so I'm losing 695 and VAT within a month. Ah well, my sales are growing and will make up for that. Erm ... NO, SL IS DOWN HALF THE TIME !! What a mess...

If true, there may be grounds for... well, not exactly insider trading, as LL isn't (yet) a publicly-traded instrument, but... well, what is the term? And would it be legally actionable? _____________________
I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid. That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry... ...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning. |

If that's true, it's the biggest bombshell of all. Same thing happened with the island price increase in Nov 2006. A few "select" people were tipped off beforehand. _____________________

Scumbag? I meant the legal term for the action carried out, not the proper term for the person carrying out the act. ![]() Now that we've got the term for the person settled, what about the legal term for the act? _____________________

Oh...Scumbagging then. Recent weeks have shown Sl moving in a new direction that is very unsettling. Is it coincidental that Uncle Phil has stepped down in the middle of it? But once again I feel LL has given the finger to a lot of people responsible for whatever success SL has had. It's very disheartening, and I think it may cost them dearly in the long run. _____________________

But an even bigger factor is the cost of tier. Are you for or against them lowering tier? Not arguing, just wondering. Lower it, Baby! The more people that can own land, the more prosperous SL is on the whole, for all the same reasons that home ownership is good in RL. _____________________

Lowering tier or increasing prims per ms would be the biggest shot in the ass that LL could do to jump start the whole grid. Of course it would make things a little hectic for a bit... _____________________

I would be so into that too - I feel that finally LL is doing something about making land ownership interesting again - I hope it continues. _____________________

EDIT: I don't suppose you will be reading this but meh - if you had been truly ripped off I would have not enjoyed seeing that at all, I would have had a lot of sympathy for your plight. I am not really enjoying this situation at all though I think that the move is a good one. I am enjoying the discussion about it however and I have strong feelings and points to put forward as do others in this thread. Fact is you have not been ripped off, you paid money for an island at a price that was agreable to you and had use of said island - still do in fact with no changes to the agreement you got. Your expectation to be able to, at an arbitrary time later, be able to sell the island for at least the money you paid for it is flawed and you have been bitten by it. Well that is the way things work sometimes but you have not been ripped off - you got what you paid for nothing more and nothing less that is all. _____________________

mmm so many people who think they are buying realestate, when in fact they are not.
You're buying a product which is subject to marketing factors k. It goes like this, when a product is new, it is very expensive because the first people to buy it will have something unique, or almost unique. As more and more people buy, the uniqueness factor lowers, and the perceived value lowers, and people who have less money *want* to join in. Marketers then lower the price. After this group of people buy the product (and the marketers can tell, because they can graph the buying trend over time), they finally lower the price again to rock bottom, and everyone that hasn't already bought, is very tempted to buy in. That's how it works k. Your initial mistake was in thinking that you were actually buying a finite resource like realestate, you're not, you're buying space on a server in a rack that can contain thousands more servers, on a network that can never be filled. Rock bottom is yet to come, i'm guessing it will be $US150, and come around christmas next year. W~ |

I am going to chime in as an island owner and say that yes, while I am disappointed about the change in regards to value of my existing sims, I wasn't actually planning on selling them anyway, and I also bought them with money earned in-world so I am not really out any money.
I did cancel an existing order today as well. I'm not buying until I hear the full details. |
