I think LL could have chosen a different week for this announcement...

From: someone

For Q2 our Island pricing is changing. New islands will be USD$1000 and this change will go live upon the new Land Store being launched, so before the end of April.

EDIT: I totally thought it was a price increase for monthly charges. !!

Sucks for the people that already have islands on order though.

$1000/month for a sim would be a little bit on the high side :p.

Still kind of bad timing then.

Now that the corporation honeymoon is over LL is making Islands affordable to the subscriber base again.
Good move by them.

YES...I blundered here... I thought LL was referring to a change in monthly fees. Although I completed have a pie in my face here, I do think this means monthly fees will increase if the islands are cheaper, which is smart.

Please excuse my misunderstanding of the price increase of the MONTHLY fees.

From: someone

Monthly fees will remain the same for Q2.

Wow, starting bids for mainland drop to $750 US, and islands to $1000.

But, look at this:

"At the end of Q2 we will review pricing once again and post a similar update including pricing information for Q3."

It all could change again in a matter of months?

/me smells desperation.

It's a big f*ck you to anyone who bought a mainland sim since they started dumping them to auction again. Most mainland sims go for well over $2000. Or at least they did before this announcement.

That's a pretty dramatic drop. Mainland landlords will feel the sting. Look for the price of Mainland to drop too. I'd say the base will soon be L$6.5 a meter.

Even if tier stays the same we should see prices drop. Thats $695 less an estate owner has to make back on their purchase.

The scary part of that announcement was the mysterious hints that something else is changing in Q3. It will be interesting to see what gets announced in the more detailed blog explanation that was promised.

Tier isn't changing.

Whilst it's nice to see the price come down, I'd hate to be someone who currently has an island on order. The price is still the old $1675 to them and they know that that it'll be a lot lower in a matter of days. It would have been better if they'd cleared the orders, and stopped taking new orders for a short time.

Yeah, if they can give us the short-term plan, why not give us the big picture of what will happen in Q3. Nevermind, I know what that answer is.

"During April and into May we will increase supply to at least 10 regions per day."

I'm all in favor of a marginal price drop, but to drop starting auction prices 50% AND to dump ten regions a day into the mainland land pool is a course correction that will really shake things up.

They have reserved the right to change pricing for the past year and a half. They're just saying that they'll do a review- not that they're immediately planning to change things again.

This is good for SL in general, hard to swallow for those of us who have bought a sim recently... oh, well.. life sucks but I hope that it makes SL a better place to be.

No different than someone who's currently trying to sell their sim, or just bought one "second hand"...

You probably won't really still be able to get much of anything for a sim now... a new purchase comes with the first month's tier included and there's a $100 transfer fee (still I think anyway?) so the old owner would get at most $500 for something they paid $1675 for.

not that they're immediately planning to change things again.

And you think these prices cuts don't count as 'immediately changing things'?

This means our islands were DEVALUATED
They just took out 695 US from all the people that have trusted them with their merchandise.
I feel the same as when I see something I bought full priced turned into a freebie.

One of the main selling points of used Islands was that the buyer could take ownership a lot faster. This advantage appears to be gone now.
