I don't know exactly what these things are, you know, when someone tp's in and out and they have some nice swirling colors or effects coming out of them? Where can I get there from, and good price for them? Don't want to pay and arm and a leg for it, nor am I looking for anything too over the top.

Thanks.

When I TP in, I want a choir of angels to appear behind me and sing the Alleluia Chorus as the hand of God slowly lowers me to the ground. I thought about adding trumpeters, but that seemed a little over the top.

What do you do if you don't believe in God? Where can I find a group of gorillas to trudge in angrily behind me?

...just a wee bit...

It's called a poofer. You can search for it. Hey I didn't make the name up.

Linden Lab. 333 Sansome Street, San Francisco, CA...

You don't have to believe in God to appreciate an entrance like that. Angels, big disembodied hand, me with my hair stuck to my ass - that's impressive. As it is I just fall out of the sky, splat unceremoniously onto the ground, pull my shoes out and wait for the world around me to rez.

Can I just mention that poofers are frequently annoying as f*ck? If it's just a mild swirl of sparkles, OK, fine, but if you go out in a big flash of light and leave a field of particle flowers/skulls/kissy lips/whatever behind you... *shudder*

Amen. It's one of those things I thought was cute the first time, and maybe the second time. Now it's just damned annoying.

"poofer" is a generic name for attachable particle generator script, and you can get them as bracelets or invisiprims or anything, with just about any particle that anyone has ever seen fit to upload. Nearly all poofers are written so that, as it happens, you get a big poof whenever you TP between regions.

However, ELora, I think you may be happier with a particle HUD, that will let you choose out of a bunch of different particles, control things like speed etc., and allow them to be turned off easily. I searched for "particle HUD" on slx and got this .. some of the HUDs include emoters as well (for facial expression):

http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&SearchKeyword=particle+hud&SearchPriceMin=&SearchPriceMax=&SearchRatingMin=&SearchRatingMax=&sort=&dir=asc

p.s. lol ann & bradley are right, poofers can be annoying. And be aware that particle usage in crowded sims will only contribute to slow rezzing ... and in some cases, to lag.

Or as in Poof, you're here. But agree with others. It's all particle effects and can generate mlore lag and resentment than shock and awe if you overdo it.

Maybe I'll skip it then, don't want anymore lag than I have already. Not worth the bother for such a small amount of time looking at something. But if I do, the particle HUD sounds more appropriate. Thanks for the info.

A very good friend of mine has an entrance that has him appear from a glowing circle of light on the ground - he rises from it, as if summoned from another dimension or some other mystical occurance...

I have yet to get tired of seeing it.

^^Probably Kitten Lulu's...that one can be entertaining, and you can add your own effects if you're motivated.

I had mine set to the 'coffin' entrance/departure. When I arrived a coffin would rez, the lid open and I would float out and into a crouching position as the lid closed amist the sounds of lightening etc. Depature was the reverse.....

I don't know if its me, but it seems with more lag these days, but that all changed to being dumped on the sim floor with clothing hangin out ma butt, 30 seconds later the lightening sound, and sometime that day the coffin lid only would appear and ghost some avatars in the nearby area. Oh well... <dreams of the good olde days>.... :o

Almost always, you can tell a noob by the poofers. Not to be offensive, they are here afterall, it's part of SL. But after being around awhile, you start to notice, the older someone gets, the less they have them (there are exceptions of course).

When you get older in SL, you'll realize that for the most part, you'll pull major bling scripts out of jewelry, stop poofing, and not go for 29742984 attachments.

Just an observation of course, and by no means is it absolute or everyone.

But now that I'm not a newb and not around newb areas, I don't see the insanely blinging tiaras, watches, bracelets, rings, huge belly button rings, facial piercings and shoes, all at max bling.

Absolutely right Seola. I think as the performance hungriness sets in and the knowledge that certain items contribute to the lag, some of us get a little more selective ;)

The most annoying thing is that when I was a newbie and wore all kinds of laggy crap and went to over-crowded simulators, SL was STILL faster than it is now :(

Ah yes, the good old days we flood-gate riders hear about :)
I keep trying to get my head around having to tp from Telehub to Telehub and .. walking!!!!
Eee we youngsters don't know we're born lol.

I have a theory: I think if I didn't have to sit, impatiently waiting for rezzing .. and tp-ing .. and friends list ... and logging .. and changing outfits .. I'd get everything done too quickly and get bored and leave ;)

Since when did we have to walk? Telehubs weren't so bad, because back then region crossings were instantaneous, so I could happily TP to the telehub near my home and fly one region over to get to my house.

I used to fly places some distance away. Once flew a good 8km to get to a friend's home region. It's unbearable to do such a thing now as I lag after each region and things rez so sporadically I can't enjoy the view :(

Thank god for bling going bye-bye. I actually think it's annoying and a bad design concept. *shrugs*

As far as attachments--my AV is very prim heavy with detailed robotics and circuitry.

I haven't noticed too many 'poofers' to be honest...even in the two plus years I've been here.

I've seen this one, AWM! It was used by a guy wearing a demon avatar. I laughed and laughed when he exited by doing a headfirst dive into the coffin.

I want one that lets me appear and disappear like the Cheshire Cat...a bit at a time.

[edit]

Or one that materializes a big artist's brush and paints me into the scene on arrival, and an eraser that rubs me out on departure, like a Warner Brothers cartoon.
