I'm glad that this thread appeared. I haven't been using windlight, so I'd no idea what some people were seeing. I downloaded it and looked for myself. The 'parts' are now removed.
I never minded at all if people wanted to use ctrl-alt-t to look, but there's no way I'm gonna walk around inadvertantly flashing.

From: Isablan Neva So…*snerk* let me get this straight…you didn’t care when you knew anyone with highlight transparent on could see your hidden junk but you do care that anyone using the WindLight client and viewing at a distance could possibly see your hidden junk? Even though WindLight has been out for months and this is the first time anyone has noticed this groovy new Highlight Junk Feature? If you were willing to be providing entertainment at your own expense before I just don’t follow the logic that makes this a trauma now….. /dissolves into giggles No, that's not what I'm saying at all. Highlight transparent shows a red cylindrical object that happens to be where my cock is. Not many people are going to get a good visual experience on SL by having transparency highlighted all the time, but with Windlight you CANNOT turn it off. Anyhow, it doesn't look much like a cock when it's bright red - I'm a neko, not a dog! The Windlight viewer displays it as a (correctly coloured) cock. And if people want to use a viewer that lets them see my cock, that's fine by me. I just don't wanna be ARed for it, when it's a bug in their viewer and *not* me wandering around with my cock hanging out. And this bug has NOT been around for months, it's been around for two days.

From: Claire Silverspar lol, I forgot about the two states. Yes people, not only can those using the windlight client see the item in question, they can also see any other um...positions it could be in. So the simultaniously see you unaroused and with an erection at the same time.
Hmm, Schrödinger's erection, anyone?

There is an "attachment" available in SL that has a bug, or at least had one 6 or 7 months ago, where occasionally on teleporting, the previously hidden "attachment" would quite dramatically make an appearance. Don't ask how I know.........errrr, someone told me about it ........ honest

From: Damien Walworth Hmm, Schrödinger's erection, anyone? Careful, nekos shouldn't invoke Schrödinger due to the cat-unfriendly nature of the original experiment! Where'd you get the umlaut dots anyway? 0.o As this apparently only shows when you switch shaders off, I am so gonna try that now and see how many people have their e-peens hanging out of their trousers invisibly....

From: Fayruz Bashir You were there, right, when we had the conversation? Or did you leave and come back? You ended up dancing the night away with the man with the exposed double cock (picture showed limp state and hard state). I do remember that now - you were telling us what you could see and we were trying to figure out why you could see it but we couldn't unless we had transparencies turned on - and Claire had mentioned that sometimes it happened to her. I don't remember if you ever figured out exactly what was causing it before I took off. I do have the new Windlight downloaded, but don't use it much because I still seem to crash more with it than with the other viewer versions. I am going to use it when I log in this evening in order to see what I might be showing to the world. BTW, He is a fabulous dancer - I'll have to see if I can convince him to become a Boy Toy.

This is why mine stay detached until they are needed. Too much potential for catastrophe.
In similar news, I've had a number of instances lately where people's other attachments, such as hair and shoes have rendered weird for me and not for anyone else. Either they get the hair on the butt for me, but not them, or their hair is all of a sudden 2 meters over their head or off to the right, but it looks normal to them.
I'm not using Windlight but they are. Actually, someone else's viewer should have no effect on what I see. Does this mean that their viewer is rendering their stuff normally even though it isn't in its normal place?

From: Ilianexsi Sojourner Exactly! I would think that the easiest way to fix this problem would be to remove the item in question when you aren't using it. I mean, doesn't take that long to open a folder and attach it, does it? Just saying. No, it doesn't take long... Most of the time. On the other hand, there's a long-stand issue with attachments that occasionally cause them to be located in the vicinity of your posterior when attached, rather than the correct location. Not, I think, something people would relish in the case of attaching "naughty bits" in an amorous situation And all the talk of dangly bits completely ignores the fact that there is a massive amount of "stuff" in Second Life that absolutely relies on transparency, like windows, weapons, furniture, you name it. It's a huge problem, and while it was a nice attempt, this attempt at increasing viewer performance is a completely unworkable solution.

i think people are getting too hung up on the 'cock' aspect of this. prim cocks are hardly the only thing this effects. get past the whole cock thing already.

Something weird happened to the JIRA issue for this. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-4337Torley Linden marked it as resolved, fix pending. "Great," I thought. But the comment for that change was: From: Torley Linden A FIX for this is PENDING... *edits issue to reflect current status*
"Alpha opacity optimazation should only take affect when atmospheric shaders are on."
Thanks all who helped! That's very... weird. I think he's saying that they'll move this bug so it only affects the newer, more pretty rendering engine, and not the fallback mode. Srsly, what? I think then we'll have even more LOADS of people angry about the issue because it uglies up the newer rendering engine instead! There's more... after that, he renamed the issue... Old title: "WindLight: Invisible prims appearing opaque at a distance" New title: "WindLight: Fallback shiny is partially invisible" Obviously, the new title has jack shit to do with what everyone has been commenting on, voting for, and posting pictures of. Now, I was only an inch away from reopening the issue and changing the name back to what it was, but I decided to ask you all what you think, first.

It's pretty bad. Not only do I have alpha textured windows blacking out while trying to cam around a building, but there are annoying things like the invisible light prim in front of a friend's face showing as a white dot when I'm stood right next to them, with my camera in regular position.
It's no good at all.

It's no good at all. Likewise, I get solid white glass with two black spheres behind them (the "twinkle" attachment I use), and all my plants I sell end up with white space on their short ends -- and this at a fairly close range. Mari

It's no good at all. Thirded. I get windows either blacked or whited out at fairly low draw, and prim hair is white at anything other than zoomed in. I hope LL are not going to stay with this; it's really ugly.

From: RobbyRacoon Olmstead This is actually an intentional decision by Linden Lab Their reasoning makes sense really, but the "fix" they implemented is pretty bad. It'd be better off the other way around, with alpha polygons just not being part of the render. It'd still solve the problem of slowdown from multiple alphas overlapping, while not forcing alpha bits to be visible. Also, the tolerance for how far to show alpha correctly should be further out, and possibly a setting in the Advanced Graphics preferences.

This is horrible When seen from a (short) distance, I have a black ball in front of my face, ugly white objects protuding from my head and ears and a football attached to my leg !
