Not sure about postings in the forums, but there is a very active SL bar association that could set the standard for other in-world professional organizations.

As to the OP, this older guy keeps hoping someone will employ him at least for no other reason than his wit and good looks.

Maybe some of you haven't noticed....but Jig took advice on the last couple of topics. The topic of the thread and the titles are worded much differently than the wording that used to hit a nerve. Both recent topics are quite interesting, and she got some very interesting answers without a Rumble.

Jig - there is no reason to say this thread is closed. Go back and remove that. You've got quite a few poll responses that indicate otherwise. Don't make me come inworld and rough you up.

Some people want to remain removed from RL, and not give up that info.....some don't care. You can read any thread topic here, and some RL slips in. I find it very interesting to know what people I communicate with in SL, do in RL. If you don't want to share, that's fine....but I bet you are looking at the results.....aren't you?

Jig...I'm in Real Estate and Investing, and not having a good time right now....not one bit! :)

Hence, the furniture business in SL....much more fun. I used to be a formalwear and wedding gown designer. Really wish I could transfer that to here....but technically challenged on the clothing design....I'll have to stick with end tables for a while. I used to be an artist...mostly pastel and oil painting, but people kept telling me to get a real job....which I did....that now pays considerably less than a starving artist.....and is considerably less enjoyable.....something for you Youngsters to consider when people are telling you how to live your lives.

Here is an example of Attorneys in SL: (maybe - maybe not)

Meta to the thread topic: I go out of my way not to know what my SL acquaintances and friends do in RL.

That's surprisingly difficult. People seem intent on defining themselves by their RL occupations, same as RL cocktail parties.

It just doesn't advance the state-of-play to know the RL Walter Mitty isn't the dashing assassin he portrays in SL.

If I was a lawyer I wouldn't admit it in public either. ;)

I don't think anybody wants Jig to leave the forums, SL or anything else.
Nobody wants Jig to stop posting either.
I don't even see that many people complaining about the forums being abused very much.

What I see however is that, in the past Jig has had a thread posting style that has in itself been offensive to one group or people or another. She herself has admitted to doing some of this deliberately to get a reaction, to stir people up, in effect treating people as if she is poking at ants in an ant farm. This often masks or taints whatever good there is in these threads and leaves a lingering bad taste.
I have to disagree and say I don't see a lot of "stupid attacks" going Jig's way. Instead I have seen a lot of stupid offensive remarks and judgments about some groups of people disguised as discussion topics coming from her and this is where the problem has lay in the past. The fact that people have tried to steer those topics to a better place is a credit to the rest of the posters.

The fact that so many recently took Jig to task over this behaviour in the dance thread shows me that people are getting tired of this type of baiting the hook and seeing what pops up and quite rightly so. Some of the topics would be a lot more interesting and a lot less offensive if simply asked a different way or not so heavy slanted to an extreme point of view that Jig has no intention of changing and attempting to see a different way.

This is not being forum police, attacking people or anything else, it is being quite rightly critical of a quite destructive force in the forum, the way we are all critical about anything thing that we care enough about.

If Mickey is right and she has learned from all this to create her threads and post her questions in a more benign fashion and not seek to rile people up so much then it makes it all worthwhile and in my opinion makes Jig a better person and poster for it.

How can that be a bad thing?

I actually have a line of Eliot tattooed on me. Just to remind myself that we'll never cease from exploration.
Curse you, Jig! I am now going to spend ages wondering which line it might be and where it might appropriately be tattooed.

Switch it up. Take your SL persona/occupation, and play it out at the next RL cocktail party. Loads of fun.

With all due respect it seems you post the same type of obnoxious questions that have no bearing on anything whatsoever.
While sometimes her responses to people's comments is gruff and non-tolerate of differing opinions, I have never found any of polls to have obnoxious questions -- and I certainly don't think that asking about RL jobs is obnoxious.

From: Carlos Cameron
According to you, your man isn't happy with your posts but it's not enough to stop or slow you down? Nice relationship I see.
Oh hell, in almost every relationship, there are things that one partner is not happy with and most of do them anyway.

RA is not what it used to be (strictly SL related) and Jig is not the only one to take advantage of that. She simply does more of the polling than others. If you are going to bitch about someone posting totally off topic crap, then bitch at everyone that does it.

Personally, I find that because of the off topic stuff, I have come to know many of you better and there is much more of a sense of community here -- and I like that. I will be quite saddened when LL finally closes this down and not only forces us to a crappy type of forum, but also probably starts enforcing the environment of SL only topics.

I work in IT - that is what I went to college for and it is what I have done every since.

Now that would really throw people for a loop. The RL Lil could not give a crap about shopping, especially for dresses. I just might have to do this.

I am not able to access SL since I am travelling but I came to Forum by force of habit.

My grandmother taught me that an apology must always be accepted regardless of circumstances. To apologize takes strength of character and integrity. To accept is essential. I fully and freely accept Raymond's apology even though I havent read his IM yet.

I offer my apology to him - freely also. Let's clear the air. There are no hard feelings. I am always in a permanent state of emotional crisis, it seems - put it down to what I do for a living.

I didn't mention that because I thought people knew what I did. I am in the entertainment "industry" and perform on stage and in all manner of venues and media. SL is my escape.

(I have removed the opening statement so that the thread can be read as "open". We appear to be a very diverse group of people with a wide range of talents.)

I loathe so many posts that Jig does. But, I promised myself that if I came back from my SL hiatus I wouldn't try to be the unofficial cop. Once I got tired of it, I went away. I'm not feeling the spark I once had and am considering doing the same thing again. It's not all Jig's fault for sure, but Jig makes an easy target.

As for what I do? I'm currently in school to be a drug and alchohol counselor. Once that pays my bills regularly I plan to study to be a minister. Looking at 8 - 10 years of school ahead of me. I must be crazy.

So I got to thinking about what we all do for our livings. It may establish an interesting demographic.

Try as I might to avoid it, I do about the same things inworld as I do in my First Life.

I'm the Office Manager for a mid-sized architectural firm, which includes the bookkeeping for the company as well. I sort of specialize in working for architects, as I've been doing it for 25+ years.

In my last position, which was the same, I also was involved in the choosing and research of bathroom, kitchen and internal space finishes; i.e. appliances, tile, carpet, paint, fixtures etc.; and landscape/planting choices as well. Sure came in handy when I had to re-do my own kitchen and gardens at home :)
