I know what you mean about typing in the word Neko. Lots of entrys but you gotta wade through the rubbish to find the good, i have found a couple of good places though for shopping lol. Still was working on clubs and such.
I think that it would be the same with me, i'm not much for combat either. If i wanted to fight to be honest i'd sit and play my RPG games lol.

I've actually met a girl who is a sub and she has a simular attitude as me, she's going to go over some things with me when she gets online later.

I've actually been looking at the Virtual Neko blog and i have got myself some ears and a tail. I'll check out the clubs you mentioned and see if she mentions any others. Thanks again :)

1. Reading, i do read alot in the romance genre though my faves are paranormal style books. My fave authers are Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, Stephanie Meyer, Nina Bangs and Maggie Shayne as a few examples.
Where is Gabriele when we need her? Beware of "Bloodlines" vampires, as this group seems to have an unpopular reputation with the general SL population. If Gabriele drops into the thread, she could point you to some other vampire hangouts.

Ah good ol Bloodlines lol, i've read about that on here and seen people inworld. To be honest the first people i met were part of it and wanted me to join so i said what the hell, i did say though that i didn't wanna be a vampire straight away so i'm just a blood doll though now i don't think i'll really bother with it anymore, it's pretty boring to be honest.

If you want to stay away from the WTF terrirtory, avoid Gorean and Dolcett. Gorean you can go to the shops for the clothes, but the community is about 'forced / nonconsent' (although you have to consent to not consent, since you're logging into it...)

That's not strictly true. There are cities that have laws against non consensual capture let alone other non consensual things. And I think I even saw a city that had no fighting, on my travels. There are (on the other hand) some hard core Goreans, who seem to have forgotten the books were fiction ;-) and who mock anyone who isn't up for the full-on torture, dismemberment, rape, whatever happens, happens, roleplay. If you go the Gor route just remember it is YOUR SL because there are some there (and other sims especially D/s ones) who want to control YOU, not just your avatar and your roleplay (I don't even believe in the latter.)

RLV I agree, the other person would be controlling everything about your SL so be wary on that one.

The big problem with clubs is that they can be echoing and empty when they're not holding events, and the event listings are not always a good guide, because they get spammed with things that really shouldn't be there. Still, club-hopping via the events list is not a bad way to spend an afternoon or evening. (Obligatory plug: I work at a friendly club with a PG-ish nature, open 11-5 - I will be there today 3-5 and you are more than welcome to stop in. IM or check my picks.) There are a few clubs that are busy 24/7, but I haven't been looking recently so I don't know which of the ones on my list are still around.

Open people's profiles and check their Picks, too - frequently at least some of the places in them are likely to be 'live'. Unless you mention something in the profile, they will not know you've been looking.

Trivia or game-type events are often a better way to meet people interested in conversation - again, check the events listing and be prepared to do some weeding.

Classes are good. If you're not interested in building, it can still help you learn to edit attachments so they fit your avatar and furnish your home if and when you decide to buy or rent one. When I was new, there were a few Newbie Q&As I would attend, and I met great people there.

If you're up to a bit of solitary exploring, here's a trick I learned on the forums: Open the Places Search and type in a random word, like maze or zoo or circus. Follow the links that look interesting. If the landowner has listed the place in Search, it should be perfectly okay to go there.

And, as has already been mentioned, if you join The Forum Cartel group, there is frequently a conversation going on in the group IM. (You can click the small x to shut it down for your current session if you are doing something you need to concentrate on.) I don't usually chime in, but frequently I listen as I putter around doing my solitary thing.

Sadly, even this is becoming less and less useful as people fill their picks with their friends' stores (or pick camping) to game search.

My picks say something about me. I don't want them to say I have no integrity, and I don't want them to waste anybody's time, so I only put things there that I think are worthwhile.

There are also an onslaught of jobs in SL that you can do for fun, and even make real life + in game money out of it too. I'm a dancer at The Galaxy, and I've had an absolute blast coming home from RL work and digging into SL work. I don't call it 'work' however. :)

And speaking of The Galaxy, I noticed you were looking for nice clubs. Check this one out. There are events every hour of the day 24/7, and usually over 20 people [not including staff] grooving out and chatting any hour you go there. There's a certain point every day where there's just too many people there and we have to restart the sim to kill the lag. ;) It's a very very busy place. To find it, just Search -> Events -> type in "The Galaxy". It's a mature rated club, so make sure you have 'able to go to mature rated sims' selected in your preferences.

But anyways, back to jobs. . . there are an insane amount of different jobs in SL. I saw you digging into sailing + fishing, you can find jobs within those sorts of activities. Like, teaching them for example. I even saw a job opportunity for a clown for a party in the Job Ops forum earlier last week. Even escorting is also a favorable job [however you must be age verified or have valid payment in your account to make sure you an 'adult' and be able to visit 'adult' sims].

There are also a ton of club jobs, if you're into clubbing. A dancer is one of those unskilled jobs that sometimes will be given to you on the spot if you just ask a staff member how to become a dancer. In the more popular clubs, you must go through an interview to become a dancer. You can also be a Hostess for clubs, which is more so being a greeter, keep people dancing, pumped up, excited, having fun, getting people involved, etc. This job almost always requires an interview. There's also a DJ job. And in the adult sims, there's escorting.

Then there are all those different types of building jobs, creating jobs, etc. Like, making clothes, making textures, etc. I won't detail into this because I did read you don't think you would be interested. But as always, explore. :)

I did exactly what you did and I'm sure what everyone else did their first week in SL. You log in for the first time ABSOLUTELY PUMPED, go to all the freebie places, make yourself a basic, yet to you, rocking avatar and then you sit back and you're like, well crap, that was fun now what. So what did I do next? I went mass clubbing, found all the empty clubs, then said, well crap, now what. Popped onto the Job Opportunity forum here, and got myself a small scale dancer job. That gave me the experience, then I worked my way up the ladder. :)

Explore. If you have any questions, or just want to pop in and say hi, feel free to show up in my IM box. :)

Best of luck!

In only a few days you've pretty much summed up SL's biggest trouble. You have to find the forums to find live people. Unless you've pre-determined that there's going to be something worth finding, you're not going to have the patience to find anything in-world, without human assistance.

I never understood this. I hear it a lot. My SL is FILLED with people. It has been from day one. I have to make special effort to be alone, most everywhere I go has people. Whether it's shopping, or clubs, concerts, even exploring. Heck, enough people have the LM to my house from parties, that there are people there, too hehe. And I rarely hang out with anyone from the forums.

It depends a lot on your timezone. If you're European it can be tricky - because your timezone is awkward for meeting US people, and Europeans have a harder time hanging out together because they don't all speak the same language.

Wow thanks again guys, you've all been amazing.

I tried exploring a little today but to be completely honest i don't really think it's my thing. I looked over a couple of the places and yes they were pretty and very well built but i found myself bored after the first 10 or so mins. I actually had more fun just observing interactions in one of the Gor sims. Really nice sims some of them i have too admit ^^.

I think maybe RP might be good for me then if i liked the interactions, i mean just watching them got me all fired up to what they were gonna say next lol. So that might be my thing, i might look into Gor because actually to me it looked really very interesting but i'd really have to ask and learn alot about it before jumping in and i'll carry on reading the forum i found on SL Gor. Don't worry i won't be using the RLV viewer, i looked at the other day when someone mentioned it and i don't like the idea of someone being that controlling, when done and said all like you said this is MY SL!!.

I'm going to check a few more clubs maybe and i'll stop by Galaxy tomorrow for sure :)

Now to jobs, i had a little look in the job section here and in the classified and most places you need to be 30 days or older so for now that is out of the question and i think if i was to do it i'd prefer being a hostess or something else.

Again thank you guys, your amazing :)

Hi Aine;

Lots in SL for Neko including clubs, I don't know of any Neko clubs but I know they are out there. :) Club UGC and Swoon seemed like good places to work, (I used to hang out at both and was offered but didn't take, jobs)

You have a great avi, and really a nice personality, so I think you could get a club job easily and last there a long time, too.

You might try modeling, too. Some stores want an av past 30 days but that is usually just to weed out people whose avs look freshly rezzed. Or who might not be serious about SL, etc.

Good luck! :)

PS there are tons of good roleplay sims besides Gor, I'm sure people here could throw some landmarks your way, or mention some. Of course if Gor is what intrigues you go for it. (I toured a few sims way back when but it just seemed too complicated to me, and the roles for women didn't sound fun.) If you like fantastical types of sims, Karamoon is a pretty active roleplay sim.
