I've only been on Second Life now a few days but i'm pretty much doing the same thing everyday. Shopping, doing the hunts or freebie hunting which to be honest is getting a little boring with me not doing anything else. I've tried to visit a few locations like clubs and such but most seem empty and i'm at a bit of a loss on what other places i can go to meet people and make friends. I'm not really sure what places would be good to visit in the earlier hours of SL "say 5am to 12pm". It's the same with groups aswell, i'm not really sure what be good to search for. I'd really appriciate any tips, locations and advice. Thanks so much Aine xoxo P.S: If you need any more info let me know

Pep ( . . . so how about I give you a call to go dancing a little later on? ) PS Don't take any notice of 3Ring; the Hangout is usually deserted during those hours.

Hi, Aine, welcome to the forums! Do you have something you've always wanted to try in real life but never did? Those types of things can be really fun to do in SL. Search, and you can probably find a group who's doing it. For example, the sailing community in SL is HUGE, because SL sailing is really a lot like real sailing, and there are a lot of us who just CAN'T get out on the water like we used to *grumbles about moving away from Boston Harbor* "Starboards" sailing club, for example, is very active and teaches sailing classes. There are a lot of boats you can buy, but the free Tako is a great way to start. And 3Ring above is talking about the neighborhood bar that we Forum dwellers built for ourselves. We have a group inworld, "The Forum Cartel" ... join it and give a holler into group chat. There should be some Europeans who are on during your times! Like Pep, for instance, who can be very nice inworld tho he enjoys ... shall we call it teasing? ... folks on the forum.

p.s. OMG I forgot CLASSES! It's really fun to take a few classes and learn to build or script stuff. Try New Citizen's Inc (NCI). Their main Kuula center has a sandbox bordered on one side by an immense bulletin board with their class schedule on it. (You can also find their classes, as well as other place's classes, by search in the "education" category). The sandbox will also generally be staffed by a mentor or two. (note that one of their classes is in socializing ... aka they have a beach party every week). You can get a leg up on learning to build by doing the self-teaching tutorial on building at the Ivory Tower of Prims. Have fun!

Whatever you are interested in there is certain to be a Group in Second Life that you can join. Use the Search function and find Groups with similar interests to yours and join them. Also search for Events to see what is going on - you probably will need to be a bit selective with Events though as many are purely commercial. If you are interested in learning, then search for classes.

3Ring - Thanks for the tip, i popped on over and had a little look around and am just sat at the moment in the bar lol. Pserendipity - Lol how'd you guess ^^, yep i'm female hence the addiction to hunts and freebies already . I'll keep the forum in mind just in case and it could be good to look at when i'm around in the later hours. I'm usually online till about 5pm SL time daily lol. Meade - Ummm anyone i guess lol, i'm pretty friendly and i do like to meet people no matter the gender or interests . Though if i could find some with the same interests as me that would be great. I love to read, though mainly romance novels. I'm into Anime and Manga (hence my first name ) and i love all types of music though my fave is rnb, pop and dance. Nika - Something in RL, hmmm not of the top of my head but i'll think about it. I guess i'd love to visit certain City's. I'll join the forum cartel group aswell so thank you for the tip lol i'll keep that in mind about Pep ^^. I'll look into events, maybe i can pick up a few things though to be honest i'm not really all that fussed with learning about building i think i'd find it boring but if they have anything to do with photography that might be fun. I love photoshop lol. Deira - I did actually try using the search fuction but the things i typed in didn't really seem to bring anything up and the ones that did not many members in the group, i'll keep trying though. I'll have a little browse through the events see if i can see anything that might interest me aswell Thanks again guys and pls keep the suggestions coming

If you join the Forum Cartel, you can use the Group Chat to shout out to folks, let them know you are at the hhangout or whatever, someone is bound to pop in if you do. Also, a lot of the group members use a HUD that tells you when someone is there, it's available at the hangout somewhere, along with a lot of free stuff.
If you like visiting cities, just type in the name of your favorite city in Search, under places and see what comes up, then take a trip over and check it out.

From: Aine Nexen I've tried to visit a few locations like clubs and such but most seem empty and i'm at a bit of a loss on what other places i can go to meet people and make friends. I'm not really sure what places would be good to visit in the earlier hours of SL "say 5am to 12pm". It's the same with groups aswell, i'm not really sure what be good to search for.
One thing to realize is this: The entire map of SL contains 28726 regions. A region is a square with a name that you see when you open the map button. The number of accounts logged in varies from 42,500 to 75,000 depending on time of day and week. Therefore the *average* is 1.5 to 2.6 people per map region. It's a big world, and not very crowded. Another thing to realize: There are way too many clubs in SL for the population. Anyone with some SL land can open one, all it takes is some dance balls and a music channel, which anyone can set up. So *most* clubs are pretty empty. Even popular ones may be empty most of the time except when they have a live DJ and are hosting an event. One clue is traffic score, which you can see under search/places. One avatar for one minute = 1 point. One avatar on average all day long = 1440 points (60 minutes x 24 hours). The traffic score counts the club owner, and as many times as he has copies of SL running. Some people run multiple copies to get higher scores, which is considered cheating. But if the traffic is under 1000 for a place, its probably gonna be empty at off hours like you are logged in at. Like someone else said, find a group for something you are interested in (there are groups for everything). Once in the group, you can open the group information, and see who is online, and look at their profile (by clicking it). Then say hi, and start a conversation. That way you can find people even if not at a place where there are already people.

Talk to the people you're hunting with, and ask them what they do when they're not hunting.
Talk to the shop owners if you meet them, and they seem chatty, some of them have been on the grid a long time and would probably love a chance to talk to people instead of just watching them rez in, grab the gift, and go.

Hi Aine and welcome!!! Try 7 Seas fishing, there is always a contest going on. As stated earlier sailing is a huge in sl. You can join a horseback riding club go scuba diving just to name a few. Although I don't build (no patience), take classes. Click on the showcase button, that's is a good jump start to see places in sl. Attend live concerts, poetry reading, art exhibits etc.. Those events are found in search under the events tab, type music and a list of events and their times will appear. There are other sporting events such as boxing and hockey that ladies participate in. Dabble into some roleplaying sims, there are plenty to choose from. There are plenty fund raisers one can join. Don't throw in the towel on SL.

How about fencing? There's a strategy game called "En Garde" that works a little like real life fencing, and a little like a card game. Very popular. There are also several swordfighting combat systems that are more realistic depictions of swordplay. Try Samurai Island for one example. If you like Anime, you like Neko, I bet. Get yourself a set of kitty ears and a tail and try being a catgirl. Or you can go all the way and be an animal. There are some great animal avatars out there. Grendel's Children for good quality and low cost, Lost Furest for superb quality and high cost. Instead of trying clubs at random, search Events, especially live music events. Once you find some clubs you like, join their groups to get notices of events there. In addition to sailing, there are aircraft...from balloons to spaceships. Or try skydiving (Abbott's Aerodrome has a free chute dispenser and launcher) or scuba diving. Like fishing? Seven Seas has a fishing game where you can catch all kinds of...stuff. And it's fun to sit and fish and talk with your friends. There are Seven Seas vendors all over, but I know of two: at Livingtree and at Refugio in the Lebettu sim. Learn to build. Visit the Ivory Tower Library of Primitives and take their self-paced tutorials. Visit a public sandbox to try making your own creations. Do you like roleplaying? There are roleplay sims for everything from Vampires to Elves to Jedi Warriors to the Wild West. Many have classes for newcomers, to get you up to speed on the backstory and the rules and conventions. Do you like Hide and Seek? There's a game called CARP (CApture Role Play). It can be casual fun, or a form of Dominant/Submissive play. Or just explore. Plunk down your mouse on a random place on the map, or enter a random word in Search...and go there. With almost 30,000 regions, you won't run out of things to see any time soon. [EDIT: Sable beat me to a lot of that ]

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Rocket%20City%20Furmeet////# (PG) has a skybox avatar store that has pretty much every furry/anthropomorphic avatar in SL other than the ones at Grendel's.

Try the events search. That will usually get you to a well attended location at the time of the event.

Daniel - I'll try searching the groups again but there wasn't really much from my interests there. i found a few anime threads but most of them typically tended to be to stuff i don't like. Argent - I'll try that and see if i can get anything, i was actually pretty lucky my first day in SL i met a couple who helped me do some clothes shopping, skins etc when i was on a hunt lol. sable - I'll think about 7seas but first i need to some L$'s lol. I actually was thinking of roleplay but wasn't sure what would be for me. I'm a neko in SL, i just adore the ears and tail so i had to be a convert . Lindal - Great advice, i'll try some of them for sure. I am actually a neko, been one since my first day.

I've been building a lot lately and going sometimes to the Ivory Tower for tutorials - they are very short so you can do two or three at a shot. Usually when I go there I meet people and end up gabbing more than I mean to. The same for public sandboxes - you can meet people there too. If you want to try this, feel free to IM me inworld and I can show you some nice places to build. .

awwww that's so very sweet of you sable, thank you very much *glomps you* I should be back online in a little while, just gotta do a few things first in RL lol. Send me a IM when you get online, if i'm not there i'll reply when i get back Malia, thanks for the tip. I'll try looking up some anime roleplay. Not a huge fan of Naruto of course i more lean towards Inuyasha, Chobits lol. I tend to like the romance side of the Manga's and Anime's. That's very kind of you to offer Seven but to be honest i really don't think building would be my thing. With as much as there is to learn about prims and not having much patience. I don't think we'd mix well lol but again thank you for the offer, very kind of you
