Shy as I am, I'm easily bored even more so, and I chat and say hi most places I go. So, that's one way. Of course, if the sims you go to are all empty, that can lead to the bad habit of talking to *yourself.* Don't do that, probably.
Everyone's given some great advice/invitations. I'd chime in to say: I hope you check each tip out/take their advice at least on a trial basis. You will find out that way what you like and don't like, and what works or doesn't work for you as far as meeting people you wanna hang with more than once. I've met lots of people on hunts, when I have the patience to do hunts that is (most hunts I burn out quickly, they are just too hard, and I'm not a needle in a haystack kind of person, I'm a give me all the technology and I will nail this sucka type of person.) But not a single one have I spoken with since. Better continued exposure and thus chance to build a lasting acquaintance are groups. You are a Neko, I see; tons of groups just for them. Simply use 'search' tab for groups with key words. Events was also a great tip someone gave; I only went to one event while fairly new but other people were there for the same reason. It was at Caledon. I could've had a friend through that, but since it was a guy, I backed off a bit, I was pretty sure I was being mistaken as for why I was being friendly. Lol. But I can feel glad that I helped someone to stay (so they said) and get around who then went on to do really well in SL. You might quickly learn there are others you can help too, even if it is just with one thing, that's one fewer person frustrated enough to leave SL who might've done great/been really happy here. BLA bla. Sorry I can be wordy sometimes. Will send you some LM and things in world later tonight. _____________________

There are also a lot of amazing places in SL to explore. I got hooked on exploring from Natalia Zelmanov's blog:
http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/ Many of her older posts are fabulous pictorial travelogues of her explorations in SL. Some of those places are still there, so this is a great resource. She hasn't been posting any exploring diaries lately, but I enjoyed hers so much that I was inspired to start posting my own: http://maliawriter.blogspot.com/ My intention is to share at least a couple of interesting places each week. Hope you will enjoy them! ![]() |

Has anyone mentioned NPIRL yet? They exist merely to cover that which is beautiful and surreal in Second Life.

Try random search such as "museum" or "park". i have found some of the most interesting builds and art work doing that. also if You are into science fiction the Star Trek Sim is a must see! like live music? try searching Live Bands. i have heard some of the most talented people singing here in SL.
![]() good luck and welcome to SL. _____________________
There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

There are always kind, friendly people there from 8-10 pm SLT. Nightly costume contest, but you are just as welcome if you are not in costume. Some people rarely wear costumes. A little goofy and corny sometimes, but always a safe, loving environment.

Do you like Hide and Seek? There's a game called CARP (CApture Role Play). It can be casual fun, or a form of Dominant/Submissive play. _____________________

I've only been on Second Life now a few days but i'm pretty much doing the same thing everyday. Shopping, doing the hunts or freebie hunting which to be honest is getting a little boring with me not doing anything else. Can I get you to do three things in here, this forum. Post for us: 1. Three hobbies you have. 2. Three things you do not like and wish to avoid. 3. Three things you think you might like to try. Maybe secret desires you can't do in RL, or maybe just curious. Its almost certain that all nine things you list will have active groups in SL. Its just a question of finding them. You can easily go through vast sections of SL and find nothing but emptiness - and you can also go through a vast array of places that are busy all day long. SL operates 24/7, 365 days a week, with people from all over the world - so it is also possible that a club or shop I go to that is busy every time I go there might be empty every time you go there. So... what timezone are you in? Also - use search, and use it often. But be aware that results near the top are usually faked (however for my two top interests, some of the top results are actually legit). Another thing to try is zooming the map back very far, turning on the feature to see residents but turning off the other checkboxes (to avoid clutter in the next part). Pick a busy area and zoom in and in and in on it... Keep zooming and moving your map to find areas with lots of green dots. - Now just pick a stack of green dots and teleport to it. If there are more than 10 dots, its usually safe to teleport right into them by clicking the bottom of the stack. If there are less than 10, teleport somewhere nearby. - Be careful about teleporting into a very small grouping, it could be a private gathering. You are also welcome to instant message me in world if you'd like. Check my profile, if anything in there sounds interesting, teleport to it, or ask me about it. - and you can do that with just about anybody in SL. Teleport to places in their picks. Only ask them about their picks if its somebody you're talking to or if you've been invited to talk to them as I have done. Oh... here I go again, one more thing... check the events and showcase. Showcase in particular in search tends to lead me to busy places. _____________________

In only a few days you've pretty much summed up SL's biggest trouble. You have to find the forums to find live people. Unless you've pre-determined that there's going to be something worth finding, you're not going to have the patience to find anything in-world, without human assistance.

I got hooked on exploring from Natalia Zelmanov's blog...She hasn't been posting any exploring diaries lately Yeah, unfortunately she seems to have lost interest. Her only entries this year are her own hair ads. Whenever someone this useful loses interest, LL should try to find out why. _____________________

Hi Pussycat, ok so a list of things. Here you go:
Hobbies - 1. Reading, i do read alot in the romance genre though my faves are paranormal style books. My fave authers are Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, Stephanie Meyer, Nina Bangs and Maggie Shayne as a few examples. 2. Movies/TV i guess. I'll watch pretty much anything as long as it has a good storyline and can keep me entertained. A few examples of shows :- Supernatural, Chuck, My name is Earl, The Mentalist. A few examples of Movies :- Twilight, Howl's Moving Castle, The Day after tomorrow, Serenity. 3. Anime and Manga, I love to read or watch anything with a little romance in. I'm not really into the bigger names like Naruto. I'm more into things like Inuyasha, Kaiken Phrase, Chobits, Peach Girl, Ah My Goddess. Likes/Dislikes - Ok a few things i might like to try. I might be interested in joining in roleplay sims but i'd have to do a little research in what they have to offer. If i could be a neko still that would be a plus but i'd be open to look at other places, the place would have to not just be about fighting. I want something with depth, something i could sink my teeth into. To be honest i've always been a little curious about bdsm aswell so maybe look into that. Someone mentioned about creating things, i don't think i'd want to learn about prims. To be honest the stuff goes way over my head and i don't have the paitence to learn it all. I have some knowledge of Photoshop though so maybe learn something along those lines. I'll need to get a job first though so i have some disposable income lol. Ok 3 things i dislike or wish to avoid - RP Sims that just revolve around fighting anything leading into RL i can't think of a 3rd at the moment. I'm in the UK so GMT Thanks for the tips and i'll check out your profile see if anything comes interesting. Lance - Thanks very much, i'll check them out once i log inworld |

Something that might be interesting to try is blogging about what you're doing. Just the process of taking screenshots and writing about trying to find places to see and things to do in SL might give you a reason to stick with it and drill deeper to see what's out there. And, in the process of doing that, you might come across something you really like.

Hang out in my park if you want a park.
It needs more avvies.Bring friends. Lol. (it's a pg rated park, maybe boring, depends) To be honest i've always been a little curious about bdsm aswell so maybe look into that. Beaumont, and The Dominion are female-friendly. Be sure to be over 18 RL and be sure to read the sim rules of each soon as you land. Beaumont's really pretty. Er, I've heard. |

Aine, here is a link to my travel blog - several Japanese and Anime sims in the list.
http://kokoropixie.wordpress.com/ For RP, I will send some links when I get in world, several fantasy type RP sims that do not focus on combat. They have it, but no one is required to participate, and the majority of the battles are won/lost by who can type the best story. ![]() This blog here is fantastic for finding all the great free items in the Japanese sims. http://beaniecanning.wordpress.com/ And gives you great places to explore as well. Profile search. When you see someone that looks interesting or what not, right mouse click on them and look at their profile, in the Picks area. That gives you many more places to search and discover. I will track down more places when I get in world. I meander all the time, hardest part is just keeping track of the places I find. ![]() |

I might be interested in joining in roleplay sims but i'd have to do a little research in what they have to offer. If i could be a neko still that would be a plus but i'd be open to look at other places, the place would have to not just be about fighting. I want something with depth, something i could sink my teeth into. - That said, its called 'Catfight City' - women only, though some of the women behave in a little too testosterone like manner. There might be a Neko there with something else you could follow along to. To be honest i've always been a little curious about bdsm aswell so maybe look into that. - I know of ones ranging from 'OMG WTF that is sick and extreme' to 'That's weird, seems oddly tame.' If you want to stay away from the WTF terrirtory, avoid Gorean and Dolcett. Gorean you can go to the shops for the clothes, but the community is about 'forced / nonconsent' (although you have to consent to not consent, since you're logging into it...). Dolcett - you don't want to know... think Sweeny Todd as erotica for the people in the chair... but worse. On the safer end, "The Cellar" seems popular. On the more extreme end, once you're age verified, there's a place in Zindra I had to TP out of after seeing what was rezzing around me, but I can find it again... ![]() DO NOT get 'RLV' / 'Restricted Life Viewer' unless BDSM moves beyond 'curious' and into 'this is what I want to do, dedicated.' And even then not until you understand SL culture and how the interface works enough that you can control how far RLV pulls you in. Someone mentioned about creating things, i don't think i'd want to learn about prims. I'm in the UK so GMT A new builder couple just moved in next door to me from the UK. They're a lesbian Neko and basic-human couple. Neko-ism is a light angle around anime for some people: http://virtualneko.com/ - If what she covers in her blog appeals to you, grab a set of freebie ears and tail, walk around for a bit, and see how you feel after taking them off. If removing them freaks you out, welcome to the world of being a Neko. ![]() - If you'd rather be an Usagi, Satyr, Faun, Fox, etc... go to "Hybrid." This -isn't- furry. Hybrids are very different from Furries. There are a couple Neko dance clubs... 'Naughty Neko' and 'Wet Katz' are two - though 'Wetz Kats' is less a club and more a show put on by three Nekos and a pack of guys who RP being their security... The blog above has even more. _____________________
