I hope this is not in response to my post, because this sentiment was not intended nor expressed in the least.

If a place like BABYFUR ISLAND has vendors of sexual objects, I think that would raise red flags.

i'm just wanting people's opinions on some situations, and then rate each on on how often they see it. this is for something i'm planning on doing later.
just in case it's not clear, when i say "general area", i mean like noob islands, freebie islands, theme park areas, general cities, etc. i do NOT mean mature islands

I don't have a problem with them. Some of the most renowned builders (such as Arcadia Asylum) have had child avatars. However, the use of child avatars have been sullied by sexual ageplayers. Since the _official_ sexual ageplay ban, the sexual ageplayers have been forced into hiding and making "ambiguous" profiles. It's pretty easy to spot the difference between the sexual ageplay creeps, and the people who just do it for fun.

I could care less what anyone does, unless they are breaking the law (sexual ageplay.)

Uh, they're banned on the main grid. They shouldn't be on SL, unless it is the teen grid.

I think that some of them can be creepy, but there are some awesome ones (like the mutation industries avatars).

I don't think anything. However some of them (communities more than furries in general) can be elitist and paranoid.

Nothing. Most of the 4-legged avatars I have seen have been "cute" avatars like cats or dragons.

I worry that the prejudice against them will effect me. I play a small adult avatar. I had a rotten childhood and the last thing I'd want to pretend to be was a child.

Almost never. I'm not sure why but there are a lot of avatars I don't see.

I've seen the shapes for sale, but like the pizza, beer, and egg or the court jester, I've never seen any one play one.

I think they are brave and think fairly originally.

I think it's terrible because the pervasive emphasis on idealized human bodies and genitalia creates a hostile atmosphere for any one who in real life does not measure up or who wants a more conservative and decorous experience.

I do a lot of exploring and depending on my mood, I wince when I walk across my tenth skin shop with lurid naked photos. The porn stuff is a bit rarer.

What really makes me wince is Gorean stuff. There is something about the whole Gore ethos that just makes me wince. I think it is the image of slave women wiping out dirty wine bowls with their luxurious long hair.

While wandering through a PG sim, I found a Gorean clothing store. The clothing looked like nothing I would have imagined. I always pictured Gorean slave girls in grey rags. The clothes looked like Medieval dresses with face veils.

A PG rating by the way, offers no protection. If you don't believe me, look at where the more conservative groups on Second Life choose to build. Corporations, universities, courty-imitating sims, and Christian sims are almost always on islands. Since the space between islands and the mainland does not exist, there is no way people can accidentally walk into such places. I find most of them through the search engine or else by expanding the map and clicking randomly.

When a colleague and I signed on to Second Life I came through the main gate but quickly went to join her on the NMC (New Media Center) sims which are in an area full of academic islands. My colleague folloed the directions to orient through the New Media Center rather than the standard Second Life orientation. She was told the NMC would be "more helpful." NMC had a vested interest in keeping the college professors and librarians out of the mainland sims because they aren't quite all that professional looking.

I advise you to take a tour of Second Life. Look for me inworld in the early evening. I can hand you landmarks.

It would be nice to have a red light district for those who want that sort of thing and to have a mainland where Christians, corporations, and others who want a more decorous expeience can flourish. It's not going to happen. Second Life was just not built that way. It would be nice for libraries, partiuclarly tax-payer funded public libraries, to be able to set up their outreach as a mainland beach head and not have to worry about fleshy freddie's get an eyeful skin shop within walking distance or naked avvies (Oh those naked pixels!) walking into the sim.

If you want a more conservative experience in Second Life, spend a lot of time on the islands. I can give you some search terms to use that help you self select. There is even a Christian sim that produces a list of safe sites. It is not all-inclusive.

As for Second Life being child safe, it is adult-only on the main grid. The issues that arise from pervasive sexuality are those of decorousness, marginalizing those who want a more conservative experience, and the kind of environment prevasive sexuality creates even for those who don't want to consume.

Ida care about any of those things, unless it involves me and 3ft of personal space and in some cases lag.

Child avatars - depends on the person. Some are goshdarn cute, and others are kinda annoying. As long as they pat my head and don't pull my tail, I'm fine with 'em. I'd say I see them on a 2-4 frequency. Adults who play children each have their own reasons, and those aren't for me to judge. Haven't seen any rl children here that I know of, which is a good thing.

I think there aren't nearly enough 4-legged animal avatars on the grid! Scale of 1 that I even see them, and usually that's only because I'm there. More doggies, please! People who play as 4-legged animal avatars are the coolest ever. Not that I have a personal bias or anything.


I have no use for porn-related items, but I'm not going to stop other grown adults from getting their jollies. Our current system is adequate for determining where such items may be placed - meaning, not in PG regions.

I don't, apparently, spend time in areas the same regions you do. I would say there is pr0n here, but unless you want to see it you don't run into it.

I've never seen any pr0n in areas for child avatars, and that's the way it should be.
