Even if you removed the dam, it would not free up the waterway. 1) the land under the damn is owned by someone, and 2) the water on the two different sides of the dam is at different levels (as is the case in a number of places on the mainland).

I'm afraid I have to confess that I am the "culprit" in the post's made by DanceswithRobots
referring to the Blake Sea. I absolutely love the Blake Sea.. and I am grateful for the efforts that MarkTwain White & Nber have done to get it accomplished. I do read the Calender for races everyday on SLsailing.com so I know what races are going on.. and I respect those hours that they are racing ..and I keep out of the Blake Sea. Dances & I were chased away from the Haggerty balloon observation area during the NYC Fizz Cup competition ..but that was only because I didn't know in advance where the designated viewing stands were .. my mistake.. but it was embarrasing. I do complain sometimes to Dances that there are a lot of races in the Blake Sea and I see that they are now trying to verify which races actually are still active. Sometimes they don't happen or sometimes they have improvised races and I get confused. I do love sailing my tetra.. even though there are no longer any races with it. And I finally have became pretty good at the Fizz.. after 4 months of practice and I was a big fan of the Fizz Cup! |

I'm not gonna take the time to type up a region list myself because part of the fun is exploring, and I am incredibly lazy, but I enjoy "old style" boating in the inner Atoll. There is a circular route you can begin in Bella (where I leave plenty of space and prims) and sail out into the voids and take either direction and complete a full circle, at least a few dozen regions. I know there are even some optional pathways near the north size of the circle that I haven't taken.
So if anyone's interested in an older continent boating experience, check out the inner Atoll river or whatever it might be. _____________________

Lias, clearly your sailing ability far exceeds my own!
![]() Awesome work on the route ideas, that must have taken you ages - but as you've highlighted some of the waterways aren't navigable currently. There's a lot of history on those regions and some Linden builds that have been there a long time now. The Dams for example; we're not likely to change those as they are very popular and key features of the landscape. We do want to keep opening up routes for boating though, so keep the ideas coming. Where we can help the boating community we certainly will. Jack |

Yes that historic prim laying across the water to sell inner tubes for one dollar - we must preserve that one prim blockage until the end of time. Because the inner tubes CANNOT be sold on the shoreline. It is just not possible. (queue American Anthem). There's plenty of water for boating without damaging anything. _____________________

Yeah I know. I would just like to start in one place and sail through the entire mainland waterways. I'm jealous that that the DPW figured out what water was for when they built Bay City and I get to buy a inner tube ($1L that Governor Linden gets) If I want to get past an unscripted prim. In 2005 I waited months for roads while now Bay City gets instant gratification. It's like we are in the Beta Grid for testing nonsense and they are the real place to get mainland services. NOT FAIR.

Just went through the thread and updated the slurl for my dock (I moved it and didn't want anyone to follow it and take a dunking!) and caught up to the end of the discussion. I threw the following idea out somewhere else a while back but got no response. So here goes again... How many regions would it take to make a continental link? Well - what does a region take care of? Objects in an X,Y,Z environment. 256 x 256 x 4096 (for object creation). It's all just math and magic right? So how about mathematically flipping that sucker on its side? Y becomes 'Up' and Z becomes... whoa! Now we have a 256 m wide, 256 m high by at least 4096 m long navigation zone. 4096 m and NO region crossings! Works if you fly straight up so why not if you turned it on its side? The big difficulty I would imagine to be hand offs between regular regions and these long monsters. But if entry and exit were limited to the end planes with perhaps a dedicated terminus region at each end... Hell! I'd pay a (small) toll to sail or fly between continents! Hey, but what do I know? Sailing is pretty good from my little dock. I also put in 7 seas. Not for the money more for the fun and convenience, and so I can use it myself. Vendors get 20% so the money isn't a factor unless one holds contests/promotions, which I don't.
So far no one has taken me up on the offer, but anyone is welcome to rez and sail there, unless/until a person is a problem for the neighbors, in some way. So again, the offer is out there. |

That's an interesting and useful project. How is the parcel information sourced? Maybe a bot visiting sims? I wonder about the frequency of updates. I noticed that the popular rez zone that my group had in Eldfell does not show on the map as a rezzing area. That would correct right now as we moved to Miru at the end of July. The island and stretches of shore are open and welcoming. However, the secondsailing.com map overlays for Miru and North of it are quite out of date. A parcel shown as a rezzing zone in Marawa just to the North has been firmly nobuild and ban-lined since July 1st. Parcels that are permanently full would be another hazard worth considering for a layer. I see our free rezzer boats getting returned by parcels around our zones. I also see boats that are still in a parcel because the ban lines have zapped the passengers but the parcel does not autoreturn The boats should auto-poof after the last passengers stands, but maybe the ban line zapping process interferes with that. There's a parcel in Miller near the bridge that has captured an impressive and varied fleet of boats that way. Its ban lines are totally invisible even at a slowest drift as the boats try to cross from another sim. It might also have a magnetic effect for some. "Hey! I wonder what that group of boats is doing there?" goes over............." Bang! _____________________

Now we have a 256 m wide, 256 m high by at least 4096 m long navigation zone. All the scripted objects that assume a region is 256x256 would freak out, though. And you'd have to update the client to know about it. Lots of us have proposed larger regions in the past but LL keeps shooting them down. Instead we got voids and openspaces and homesteads. _____________________

Thanks Argent. Once all the frilly (and in my opinion frivolous and unnecessary) add-ons like voice and phone integration are exhausted maybe they'll take a look at some core functions. I won't hold my breath.
