From: Lincoln Lupino Seriously if $20US for a piece of land is difficult for someone, then maybe they need to be focusing their resources on more important things than online games. I am not trying to be crass, I just think online gaming is a luxury. After spending a lot of money for a decent computer and graphics card, a broadband connection etc. you already have quite a bit invested in your hobby. It sure better be "extra money" rather than the baby's milk money. I was unemployed a few years ago and you bet I dropped all my online game subscriptions.
Who the hell are you to make judgements about how much someone should spend on an online game. I'm sorry if there are those of us out there that feel we shouldn't have to line your greedy pockets with our hard earned cash just to enjoy land ownership in SL. Just because you think virtual land should be more doesn't mean the consumer has to agree. IMHO $20US for 512m of virtual land that you can barely use for anything of significance is NOT worth it, and that opinion is not based on or influenced by my budget. BTW, if you were the one using those girly pics on the land sales listings, they were definitely in poor taste and the model quite unattractive.

I was told that the last land price crash was caused not only by lots of new sims being auctioned but by at least one major land baron selling off all his land cheap.
I'm trying to decide whether to knock down the price on all my current small sale plots, bank the cash and buy 512's when price hits bottom.

Barons dumping does affect things certainly. But most are not panicking like they did last time. Now it's really dependent on how many sims LL drops and how steadily they drop them. Prices will keep going down as long as the supply of new sims keep coming. And judging from Animom's map at the start of this thread, there are a lot more still to come.

Even this time I'm seeing some of the more respectable traders play the undercutting game. Some people just can't bare to go more than 5 minutes without being the cheapest on the search.

Yeah, except for some of us this is with land that was obtained after the dump, hence we can lower prices without making a loss - unlike the price cutting before the dump last time.

I'd just like to say that... I CALLED IT! Hmm, instead of just posting on the forums, maybe I should get into the business of information selling... Would anyone be interested in being kept up-to-date on new sim releases before they are viewable on the map?

It did not benefit me personally, since I'm still waiting on the sidelines, but it sure is fun to be in the know as early as possible.

Since when is barely scraping out $100 US dollars a month profit greedy? I put in over a hundred hours to make $100 and thats greedy???? I suppose in the wonderful world of communism, everything would be free and we would all make the same amount of money no matter how hard we worked or how much education we have.....the doctor and the dishwasher living in perfect harmony....... oh and LL would be a charitable organization that wouldn't charge tier or membership. I prefer a system that rewards hard work and accomplishment. BTW Hypocrisy is fun !!! I am glad to see that Sarah has started adding male pictures to her land..... turnabout is certainly fair.

So with this massive land dump, how low do we think land is going to get? What level do we think it will move back up to, after the dust settles?
I'm curious as I find myself in the unenviable position of wanting to sell my mainland parcel to lower my tier. My timing, impeccable as usual, looks like I'll be selling low after buying high. :-/

When my main joined SL there were 80 sims. There are almost 8000 now. They had to come from somewhere LL's goal is to keep prices constant, both L$ and land. It's not new, it's in public record. They don't want an inflationary economy, they want a stable economy.

Good news, it looks a lot like prices were as low as they were gonna get yesterday. Gradual creep upwards all day today from 9.0 to 9.6/sqm

I guess 8 sims a day wasn't enough. It seems that they are auctioning off 16 sims a day now. I wonder what LL's "target" price really is.

From: Raymond Figtree You want it to be back at the prices they were when there were 3K concurrent users online. But there were 40K concurrent on today. Prices will never go back to where they were and where you wish they would return. I think you're over confident of this. Never bank on anything when the largest unknown factor is what LL will do. They're big on surprises.

I've been watching the new sims in-world, and end-buyers have flocked all over them, buying up plots. So, the combination of increased number of buyers because of hte lower prices balances out everything, so we saw a short dip to around 8.8 and after greatly increased buying prices are creeping back up.
Looks like if LL's target price is something like L$8-9 per meter, they are going to have to do land dumps like this every other week.

Yes, several 40 sim drops in a row will drop prices, but overall there are many more new buyers who are keeping things from crashing. Look at today's auction prices and the base price of land inworld which is heading up again for further proof. If they are going to "surprise" us with an 100 sim drop or a week of 40 sim a day drops prices will certainly take a dump. Then all the new buyers will correct the market again.

This will just go on a cycle unless LL decides to give land for free and charge a high tier every month. (opps I hope I didn't give that idea to LL).

Just noticed, several of the 5 auctions that were won by one person last week are back up for auction coming up in the next day or so. Also, if you look at the completed auctions, the price in the list doesn't match the price in the auction details for those auctions. The bids by the person involved have been removed.

I know who you are referring to and he did the same with a parcel in my home sim. Hopefully they don't allow him to bid any more.
