I mute my trumpet occasionally . . .

I only use mute when I want to be somewhere and some thing or someone is spewing nonsense or commercial on a continuing basis.
I do it only to keep my screen clean. I don't do it as some sort of imaginary weapon to be used against something or someone who doesn't give a frack anyway.
I always un-mute sometime later.

My mute list is normally empty.

I do pretty much the same. There are a couple of people, I have on my list still, but I have forgotten why they are there. Oh, and I happened to mute a person wearing these invisible prim coccoons, which should somehow prevent people from inspecting their attachments, I tried to sit next to her, and accidently hit the prim coccoon when clicking to sit. I decided that a person who is dense enough to wear one of these doesn't have anything in particular to add to the conversation, so grey she went. Might unmute her when I forget what I muted her for :p

I have never used the mute button in all the time I have been here, I tend to just TP away if something annoys me :)

Oh, I have a whole muting protocol.

-I mute "women" who hit on me but say no to voice chat.

-Avatars with super high rendering costs to reduce lag.

-Avatars spewing tons of particles in clubs .. lag again.

-Gesture spammers

I mute for HICCUPS...............giggles. I mute excessive gesture spamming,troublemakers.
my mute list is very small in-world as well as here on the forum. I have 3 muted from the forum. That most likely will increase as the months go by.

That actually might not have been his fault..I seem to recall an item on xstreet that you wore..selected an individual and it made them poop as they walked..they couldnt turn it off , unless you chose to stop it (yes, a form of griefing i suppose) Might have been that he had, but maybe he was just as you thought :)

I've muted a grand total of 3 people, 2 of which followed me from the forums to harass me. You gotta be really freaking clueless to make it to my mute list.

Edit: This means that I've muted less than 1 person per year in SL.

I've muted three people total, and eventually taken them off mute. I've found that nothing really requires me to mute someone forever. I don't have any enemies and I'm not easily annoyed. ;)

Gesture spammers, in general annoing people, people with high avatar rendering cost... and then I go home and clear my whole mute list... until next time.:)

I would say the majority of mutes have been for noisy objects on neighbors land. When I get sick of hearing it the object gets muted.

I have muted a grand total of 3 people in all my time in SL. All 3 were griefers who decided to gay bash on my business property and for whom freeze, ban and eject only resulted in Yelling it from the edge of the property for days(or in IMs)

I mute:

- inventory/friendship offers without talking to me first
- repeated use of ascii art gestures and/or "woot" sounds (done by club employees leads to deletion of landmark + IM to club owner)
- begging for L$ or freebies (depending on the tone it actually can lead to either mute or gifts)
- bloodlines (goes with AR for harrassing / pyramid scheme fraud)

i also mute annoying objects by name. "chat parrot", UGH!!

I've muted a few "chatty items," some griefing items, and just a few people. I've only muted people cause I usually don't give people any time to act like a moron in my IM box. If they'd like to discuss something thats fine. The moment they want to just argue, and not listen to anything but their own arguments as to being fact then there isn't much more point. I like to believe that most people aren't out to just plain "troll" in SL. But I am wrong on occasion. Some people just like to argue and have the last word and it doesn't matter what substance they have to offer.

The last person I muted sent me an unsoclicited group invitation, out of the blue, for no apparent reason. The person wasn't even within map range. I'm not sure now whether it was an actual human, or an inviter bot.

The person I muted before that sent me an unsoclited notecard advertising his awesome new SL bank, with no prior communication. (I almost ARed that one, but I was busy.)

I ALMOST muted someone the other night who sent me something like SIX group invitations while I was walking around a store, but I was on a hunt and didn't want to autodecline the prize if I happened to find it. I sure won't be shopping there in the future, though.

I'm really tempted to start ARing unsolicted group invites as spam. I mean, if I'm in a club and the host automatically sends an invite, I'll just decline - but group-invite me the minute I walk into your store, or completely out of the blue for some random group, and I have zero tolerance.

Text spam, annoying sounds, irritating people I can deal with. I keep meaning to mute high ARC avs in busy areas, just until I get home, but I always forget.

who muted ...

You have a list to see who you muted, isn't there a list to see who muted you? That is what I meant. Thanks.

My reasons to mute:

1) Excessive chat spam

2) Too much bling (or otherwise high ARC) slowing me down

3) Excessive, unwanted, IMs (if it is group related, I leave the group)

To date, I think I've only muted two people, first one for breaking both rules 1&2, second for breaking rule 3.

Nope, no such thing as a 'muted by' list, to the best of my knowledge.

Merely curious what people think is reasonable to mute for:

I mute persistent panhandlers. Can't hit me up for L$ if I can't hear them.

I have muted people for spamming me, though I'm likely to AR it if it's stuff like pay-to-join group invites. Usually, the mute lasts as long as I forget to clear my list...

And pregnancy bellies. Those things are auto-muted. I do not want to hear about Mommy's strong craving for male reproductive parts, strawberries and pickles (probably mixed together.) And I don't CARE if her non-existing-soon-to-be-prim-twins are sleeping peacefully or playing soccer with Mommy's non-existent kidneys.
