What do you mute for?

Merely curious what people think is reasonable to mute for:

I find it very calming to mute people who use three gestures in the span of minute, talking bellies, griefers, spammers, and people who run up to me naked with Sarah Nerd's ugly prim cock and then spill out lines of AOLspeak garbage (I don't frequent sex clubs so it's never the time or place for that kind of thing).

Besides that, I've rarely had to mute someone. Your experiences?

I mute people who make it necessary for me to either mute them or teleport out.

Usually chatspam of some kind.

I have more objects muted than residents. Specially constantly repeating greeters in stores I visit regularly

I have really only had to mute a few people, and that was just until I left the club they were gesturbating in.

Only for when I absolutely don't ever want to talk to that person ever again, I don't want them contacting me and they just are not getting that message to go away.
I think I have only ever done that once or twice. Even then if a certain amount of time has past and I am sure they have gone away, I clear them off my mute list.

Noise spammers. People who repeatedly make some noise or gestures get muted quickly.

Visual spam like wearing huge objects. If you tick "impostors", muting makes the attachments go away.

Guys with prim c*cks attached.

Talking bellies get muted individually though, I don't mute the person.

Translators! I mute ALL translators. I am sick of reading the garbage those things produce.

In the rare case of being harrassed I just TELL the person I am muting them. Then they usually use an alt to continue which will get them ARed for alt abuse and stalking, and bam problem solved.

Anyone who I first meet that has such original and brilliant icebreaker conversational gems such as: (in no particular order, as one usually follows the other):

1. You like to F**K?

2. How old are you?

I muted one fool who had the temerity to comment on my profile as if it concerned him at all- I did not even know this person- just a passerby- i mute stuff that annoys me if it keeps going on and on- i have stuff on my mute list from abour 4 years ago that i am sure is no longer even there! I muted and odd ex-member of my friend list the other day because he found it necessary to try and indoctrinate me into some weird quasi-religion (u guys must have seen one of them in here recentely trolling for converts? cant recall what the hell it was called - just another bunch of bs with a fresh coat of paint)

Intolerant people. ;)

Seriously? My mute list is exactly as it was when I first signed on more than a year ago: Empty.

!quit for the most part. That one drives me crazy.

Sometimes in clubs for screen hogging gestures, but they are removed the next day. Avatars, sometimes, but again removed soon after.

Verbal abuse.

And, at times, out of control gesture spam in a club. If it is so constant I can't even see regular chat, let alone have to listen to Hoooo or I love this tuuuuune instead of the actual TUNE, then it's a form of griefing in my book. I wish clubs would ban it altogether.

I have only ever muted spammy objects, and I wish there was a way of doing this without also muting the owners.

There is. Copy the object's name and open the mute list. Then use "mute by name" and paste the name in the box. I use this option to mute talking bellies and translators without muting the people themselves.

Hmmm ... I thought this was what I did, but it greyed the owner out. I must have got it wrong. There's a new mall next to my land with about 30 shouty lucky chairs in it. I was probably just flummoxed by all the spam scrolling up my screen and hit the wrong buttons. I don't find the mute list very intuitive at the best of times.

It's a bad idea to use greeters in a store, because many people WILL just try and mute the object and end up muting the owner - which also mutes all the vendors ...

I went into a script shop yesterday and was looking at something and it wrapped me up in a flipping ball of spider webs, lol.

I had to tp back the the store door, but yeh, that kinda spam could turn some people off for sure.

Or for sending me an IM and not being on my friends list, or walking up to me and trying to grab an attachment, or using "u, ur, 4u" or such garbage instead of English, or for asking me for special "favors" when i'm shopping, or for just being a backside-hat in general.

I only use mute when I want to be somewhere and some thing or someone is spewing nonsense or commercial on a continuing basis.
I do it only to keep my screen clean. I don't do it as some sort of imaginary weapon to be used against something or someone who doesn't give a frack anyway.
I always un-mute sometime later.

My mute list is normally empty.

People who mute darn near everything are broadly offensive.
