You used to see Lindens around inworld much more often - probably before the days of the Live Support chatline being removed from the world and put on the web.


In the early days, Lindens were a much bigger percentage of the population. So of course you were much more likely to run into them. Nowadays there are over 50,000 avatars in Second Life nearly all the time, and there are only a couple of hundred Lindens total -- and a large percentage of THOSE are developers who are rarely seen on the main grid.

Aside from going places to run into them intentionally (office hours, the I-Team island opening, and so forth) I still see them around regularly. There are usually one or more Lindens at Science Friday, at Metanomics, at the Life 2.0 summits, and at the Immersive Education meetings. I've also seen them in more social settings, like Sophrosyne's salon, Tuna's Odd Ball, and a dance at The Bluffs.

As for the thing about your other avatar identity and/or real world identity being known, I imagine that what sort of job you have matters a lot. If you're a coder, letting people know the identity of your Linden avatar is no big deal. If you're a Liaison or Concierge, it's probably more important to keep separation; in those jobs you're going to get residents annoyed at you some of the time, so it's good to have a refuge from that. And finally, if you're a major corporate official, you'd pretty much have to have an anonymous alt if you were to have any hope of seeing what Second Life is like for normal users.

I remember that you'd occasionally see a Linden walking around in the resident sandboxes, and one time just after the update that enabled HUDs, Philip Linden was in the Ahern WA chatting with people about how the patch went. :)

I've seen several Lindens in world in the Bay City Sim. One was doing something to the theatre (not sure what), and the other was driving around in a car.
(oh, and yes, I know that he looks vaguely mole like, but had a Linden last name, not Mole).

Can a Linden really run a SL business with an alt? Isn't that kinda a conflict of interests?

How would you tell seeing there's no verification on any accounts on the grid, any Linden could be anybody in any business on a hotmail account.

if i was hired as a Linden, i would totally not tell a single soul.

man, all these people saying they wouldn't want people to know if they became a linden, now I feel bad about the one friend who I outed on the forum as having become a linden. I hope they didn't mind, it never even occurred to me until now that someone might care. That was a long time ago though so it doesn't matter anymore.

Lindens tend to show up in NCI Kuula

Every now and then I tend to see one of the Lindens hanging around NCI Kuula.

They watch the events, chat with people, and one recently watched the latest changes being made.
:D I even beaned him with one of my crazy throwers!!:D

It seems like almost every one who runs NCI knows at least one Linden, they just don't list them in their picks.;)

Even one of the people in my freinds list tend to follow Torley around in the backround, she even took funny pics of his ghost, take a look

Yeah, there's been a lot around Bay City...there are so many holes in the ground to be fixed, and the roads had a lotta holes at first too, so I'm not surprised. I need to go & see how the Bay's holdin up now, since I move tommorrow.
