If you organized your inventory, how long would it take?

Since I love to explore and do the occasional hunt as a way to see more of SL. My inventory grows and then I start weeding down to keep a balance.
One of the best things I ever did was to take a Inventory class at Dreams. I even joined the 'Tamers of the Inventory Beast' group, lol. I learned some faster ways to find duplicates, how to better use the filters, and more tips.
Give this a try: Open Inventory window > open FILE > click Show Filters > click blue None button > click on Scripts > type in Floating. You only need one or two floating text scripts, delete all those duplicates. You'll be amazed at how fast your inventory count will go down. Start trying more words like hover, rotation, giveinventory, etc.
Be sure to reset filters and you might need to close folders, then toggle it back open on the inventory window.

over 6 hours, every week, sometimes just for the builds I create myself, I found 4 folders with the title 'things to sort' with approx 200 items in each.

I've wondered on occasion what happens to all our deleted items. Do they really get deleted, or is there a vast Linden-esque Bermuda Triangle of deleted pixels somewhere out there waiting to be rediscovered by the geek at the computer repair store?
Is it Friday already?

It's called "the asset servers". No, I'm not joking.

I answered 4-5 hrs, as it'd probably take that long *if* I got stuck in and concentrated. Unfortunately I normally get distracted, or texture rezzing takes too long and I simply get bored with it all. Instead, I've been trying get organised bit by bit, whenever there's a spare 10 minutes, and I'm gradually getting getting there. This seems the best way for me, rather than in one fell swoop. -- Aes

"Organized" by any normal standard is hopeless for me. Even if I just stood still, new crap would accumulate in inventory transfers faster than I can sort it. So all I try to do is keep the top level of Inventory free of junk, so I can at least notice when new folders come in. To find anything I search and filter.
That's how I manage email, too, except with email I just let it all accumulate in the Inbox. Back when life was simple and I only juggled a few projects at a time, I'd try to file email in folders. Once that became impractical, I realized just how much time I'd wasted with filing, hiding messages from myself and making it all the more difficult to use automated search.
I just wish our Inventories had a little bit more information on which to search and filter. For starters, I'd like to use properties of the contents (as scripts can do with the contents of the object in which they're contained). Then I'd like to add my own tags to the objects (overcoming the limitations of a strict hierarchy of folders).

Pfff.... I remember when I first reached 13000, and managed to get down to 7500... how happy I felt. Then came the next 15000 and down to 10000... since then it gets worse and worse. I fight hard to not let it reach 25000, and delete and box a lot.
It is so hard to find out how I'll sort it. I started with designer's name. I need subcategories in that. So far I don't have time. Every time I start organizing, textures takes for ever to rez. I delete some I think is old, and box up some. Sigh.
I filter out a lot, I have almost no notecards and few unpacking scripts.

I've been able to keep mine under 4k. I go through it weekly and toss what I haven't used in over a month. Then again a week later I need an outfit and weep when I realize it's gone.

For the most part, my inventory is well organized but lately I haven't had the time to keep up with it. It's hovered at 16000 more or less for about 6 months now. I try hard to discard things as I get new stuff. I'm dying to go through it and try on old things to see if I like them any longer but that seems very daunting. Right now, I think I need about 1/2 a day to really get it under control where I'd be happy with it and I bet I could get it down to about 12000 or so.

less than an hour, but it started organized... i have my own little system, and the only thing that really needs cleaned up is the random (can you take a look at this) stuff that people never bother to folderize (so plenty of odd objects, notecards and scripts)...and some random landmarks for me to explore in depth later
