From: Macphisto Angelus I find it way more fascinating to see ....
You find it fascinating? Do you now? But I bet it goes way beyond mere fascination. Come now, don't be shy. Spill it. Tell uncle Ric all about it. I promise not to laugh. And here I though, adding useless drivel to a dead thread was the only fascinating thing going on for some of you. Shows you how much I know. I should be ashame of myself for this. But I'm not.

From: Macphisto Angelus I am convinced they are watching this place to see how a General Forum will work out. Easier to let things go and monitor then to open up the forum and then shut it down later because it didn't work. Katt was censoring quite a few threads in Technical Issues two weeks ago that were mild compared to what happens in RA. Other than deleting threads that have self-proclaimed minors in them I haven't seen any effort to moderate RA at all. From: someone LL is getting free labor here while people answer the questions they don't have time to deal with. I am sure they know the payment is some fun and banter. Very cheap wages to pay when you are having a hard time keeping new resident retention. You're old enough to know that LL had 24/7 free live resident help already. As long as it was convenient for them they'd laud the efforts of the volunteers. When they themselves didn't want to deal with residents anymore they flat out lied to us (the decision to close it had been made three months prior) about the future of Live Help right up to the point where we got a group notice that they were closing it down 30 minutes *after* it was posted to the blog already. We even had a meeting about improving the group days before. Even after the announcement they invented scenarios where the expertise and dedication of LH volunteers would still be useful (ie "SL certification" that later died a silent death) so they didn't have to be upfront and honest. It's naive to think they'd appreciate the forums any more or that they'd be any more open about what they have planned.

From: Rhaorth Antonelli Instead of bumping a thread that should not be in this part of the forums, I am asking it here, since it seems to have spawned differences of opinions, and now I am curious
This is residents answers..... So acceptable threads are questions......put to the residents.....for them to answer. Man, it's like living in the middle of a village idiot convention.

I was in Live Help when it happened. My point is.. as long as they can still point to this as a resource and get people answering questions to keep a shell of hope that they can retain another newbie they will let this place slide as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

When I think of poor sad lonely Ric I just want to reach out to him. I would give a baby a rattle for amusement. Ric needs a little flaming to make his life worthwhile and give him his inner joy. Some people just have screwed up wiring.. the key is to find the schematic and work with what you can. He is just a sad big ol teddy bear needing some attention.

I don't know him, Mac- don't care to- there is a putrid smell- You don't really need an actual Ignore Button- in my head I keep adding more to the ignore- what makes me sad is the ones that feel definitions, names rules, etc are more important than just caring about people - this whole new fiasco totally f'ed up my night last night- My responsibility of course- no one else's since I let it get to me. My only thought was - damn, if whomever - insert name here cause sadly it applied to many) cares so little about the person my own existence/participation- what have u - is just as appreciated -not- We try, we care- we give so much of ourselves and still there can be such pettiness- Acceptable? I guess lately not a goddammend thing-

I guess lately not a goddammend thing- I guess I missed last night. Sorry whatever happened has you bummed. The pettiness is thick for sure around here at times. It is sad to watch all the whining because people cannot control what others do (waaa this forum is for THIS not THAT, etc etc). Control freaks who can't stand to see something going on that they do not agree with. Like my grandma used to say.. fuck 'em! They can be petty, they can whine, bitch and moan but they can't change a damn thing going on around them. They can hide behind the Lindens and point to two year old stickies and rules all day long but it doesn't effect us in the least unless you let it. Again, no clue what pettiness happened but if it is something you can walk away from.. do it. Help those who need it, be kind to those that deserve it and laugh at the ones that puff up and act like they are hot stuff behind their keyboards. There are good people.. it is the whiners and the petty filled that you hear most because they are looking for attention. You rock in my book.

Man, it's like living in the middle of a village idiot convention. Here's your name tag, please wear it at all times while on the premisies. Feel free to visit the various displays of idiocy, and chat with the idiots who have worked so hard in creating them. I think this Forum is fine the way it is. I have no trounle ignoring what doesn't interest me. Some wish this to be the sterile, strictly by the book, "Just the facts" type forum. That's OK, I guess. It would get rid of me, so that's a plus I guess for some of them. And a lot of those people I can at least respect because that's pretty much how they operate, they don't get involved in the silliness. But , some of the loudest moaners ARE ones who are just as involved in it as anyone else when it suits their needs, and then laughably have the temerity to claim victim and stamp their feet and whinge. For them, I am sending over a cleanup crew to sweep up all the broken glass.

Gee, Porky...if you don't like our little village, we idiots would appreciate it if you went off and built a sim-sized hand or something. I mean, talk about the pot, the kettle, and claims of RGB (0,0,0).
Amara: I don't know what upset you either, but BIG HUGS!
Mac: Kudos. I don't have your energy, so I just make judicious use of the Ignore list.
As far as what is acceptable: After considerable thought, I can think of very little that I'd consider unacceptable for this forum, as long as it isn't intended as hurtful to someone else. I know some of you were probably hoping that I'd say something like "no advertising" or "no religion or politics" or "only resident questions and the answers thereto".
Sorry...there are times when any of that goes over the edge, sure. But there are also times when any and all of those topics are appropriate for discussion. About the only thing I can think of as always inappropriate would be pornographic or gratuitously violent imagery and explicitly sexual talk (not innuendos, we do that all the time. I mean the X-rated chat that goes along with bumping pixels with someone on an MLP bed).

These arguments might make sense if Resident Answers was an actual busy Forum that you couldn't keep up with.
As it is, its a lot of worry over nothing.
Even with the Resident Answer Stuff, The General Stuff and the misrouted stuff - there still isn't a huge amount of posting going on.

Google "Golden Rule" - apply it.
No threads in here cause any actual harm to anyone. I mean real, physical harm. I can't post anything that will make your arm break or your heart stop beating. If something doesn't hurt you, and it makes other people happy, then what gives you the right to stop it?
Adults should be perfectly capable of ignoring threads that they think are inappropriate or that they don't want to deal with. They would be much happier if they would do so, rather than try to be the police and tell others how they should and should not conduct their business.
Edit - and to Rha: Please stop deleting your posts. It makes it impossible for people to figure out what the hell is going on. Either mean what you post and stick by it, or don't post it. But for God's sake, give people the courtesy of being able to understand a thread. Deleting posts so those of us in different time zones can't see what you wrote is very passive-aggressive.

Did we not read Rhaorth's goodbye post? Just because you can't break somebody's arm via the forums doesn't mean that it's fine to post anything you like because you find it fun. You are right in that we're all supposed to be adults here and that we should be able to ignore stuff we don't like. We should also, in theory, be able to think before we type.
