I think it would be easier to ask what people think is not acceptable and make this a rather short thread itself. We all know what PG means, or I would hope so. What the RA forum has become is a GD (General Discussion) forum. Many had been pleading that a GD forum be returned and I think after Strife left as a moderator things have pretty much been hands off as far as moderating goes and the general discussions have gone un checked. I really see no more or no less drama though just some threads that would have been locked quickly now are allowed to go on. I’m for renaming Resident Answers to General Discussion. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck!

I think whatever Katt Linden does not shut down is just fine.
I am convinced they are watching this place to see how a General Forum will work out. Easier to let things go and monitor then to open up the forum and then shut it down later because it didn't work. I skip threads that don't interest me. I respond the way I wish and always will until I am told by someone in authority to stop. LL is getting free labor here while people answer the questions they don't have time to deal with. I am sure they know the payment is some fun and banter. Very cheap wages to pay when you are having a hard time keeping new resident retention. _____________________

I have to concur that this forum has become a sort of experiment.
Katt has been farely active in other forums as far as moderation goes, this one... she just seems to watch and let it go on it's own. |

That will make it live forever. Simple folks, simple taste in fun. Adding more nonsense to a thread just to see how high it can go in post count is simply mind boggling. You can't tell me they don't know how to have fun in here. I can't wait to see what the next time consuming fun filled extravaganza they will come up with next. I'm so anxious I'm shaking all over. I just can't wait. |

The Resident Answers Forum may be helpful at a certain margin.
It was much more helpful with Strife Onizuka was moderating them and actually shutting down threads that were way off-topic. I don't see any evidence that Katt Linden pays attention to this forum. (Other than posting a couple of corporate spins in one particular thread about a mysterius Linden Lab debacle, that has never been explained as she promised in the thread.) If she were paying attention, I would expect to either see more off-topic threads locked up, or an official change in the Sticky that defines what is on-topic and what is off-topic. |

Supposedly the entire forum guidelines have been rewritten. Why this takes 3-4 months to implement is really beyond me, but whatever. _____________________

The "I must spam threads I don't agree with to derail them" attitude that some people have sorta bugs me, especially when the OP is somebody asking an honest question.
My ignore list has really grown lately. |

The name of the forum says it all: Resident Forums, Resident Conversation, Resident Answers:
r.e.s.i.d.e.n.t.s. I have no problem with someone starting a thread about nothing, or about something that does not interest me. If I am not interested, I don't read the posts, simple as that. If something catches my eye, I read it, and if I feel like throwing my two cents in, I do. I read many more threads than I post in, mostly because I have no idea what I am talking about, nor do I usually have any clue what advice/suggestion to give the thread-maker. If a thread is inappropriate, one of three things will likely occur: 1) it will get ignored, and thus fade and die in relative obscurity; 2) people will crab about it, and a moderator will step in; or 3) a moderator will take it upon him/herself to squash the bug. I'm fine with any of those options. |

I just wish that quoted text from a person on ignore would also be ignored, kind of makes the ignore function a little bit useless
thanks for the input folks, it helps understand a bit about what happens here I too would like to see the name changed from resident answers to general discussions, because that is what it has turned into _____________________

I think we are doing pretty okay in here. New residents get their questions answered, there's some nonsense but it's all good.
I have *never once* looked in that 'ignore this one' thread. My life is richer for it, I think... though I'd not spoil other people's fun even if I don't care to indulge. _____________________

People spot a serious opportunity to help a fellow Resident, and they are all over it. That is abundant in RA. People spot an opportunity to have fun, and they are all over it. That is also abundant in RA. I think the forum is working just as it is, and needs little moderation. I think that's the experiment. And it's proving its value.
It ain't broken, so don't go trying to fix it. Now let's get some shoes. _____________________

I think it's great that general discussions happen here but I just stepped back from this and remembered when I was new.
I spent quite some time here, just scanning threads, trying to figure SL out. At the time, because I was on that learning curve and did not know anybody, I found irrelevant (to me) banter distracting and a nuisance to wade through. I didn't really know what was in good fun and what wasn't so friendly, and I got frustrated sifting through a thread - even ones found through search - to find the bits that hopefully answered my question (rather than posting again). I'm very much in favour of a general discussion forum but I also feel strongly that there needs to be a forum (i.e resident answers) that focuses on answering SL related questions specifically. It is simply the fastest way for those looking for help as well as those wanting to offer answers, rather than having to wade through pages and pages of chat to find something related to SL. (Yes, I know you can use the search feature - but it's often helpful to just browse topics to find tips and tricks for better living in SL) Like Zaph said, leave it like it is. OR (re)create a separate general discussion board where people can play, spam, flame, post whatever without clogging up the works ![]() _____________________

I think RA is just about spot on at the moment, a lot of helping poeple with queries, a fair bit of serious SL related discussion, and a fair bit of nonsense. There is relatively little real trolling and flaming. I think this is a long way from a true General Discussion forum, it is virtually all about SL, very few threads that are not based on SL.

I am just going to say one word about this; scorekeepers. does this one word confuse anyone else, in relation to the topic, I just don't get it who is keeping score, and on what? _____________________
