It wasn't planned but my av has turned out to be who I wish I was about the age of 25. I was way too serious then and wasn't out of the closet. My av today is much more fun loving (as I hope I am now) and wouldn't even know where to find the closet.
Personality wise and all, though, he's pretty much me. _____________________

Isn't strange ?! It's the reverse for me. I'm so much more outgoing and confident in RL - usually the one who can't shut up. When there's tension at work during meetings and such, I'm usually the one who will make everyone laugh. When I go out, I find it easy meeting people, no one would ever think of me as being shy. My av is the total opposite - so shy!!! She even gets flustered when strangers IM her(me?), heheh Except for the colour of her eyes which keep changing, and a tighter body, she kind of looks like me. |

Oh my god! Someone else feels shy speaking through their avatar ![]() I personally think my avatar's mad at me for not being more refined and magical on SL and gets really mad when I make her talk technical when helping new people with the client or discussing awkward details of LSL. And when someone new pages, sometimes I do feel shy about putting words into her mouth because I'm not sure I can live up to her standards... Ummm.... I think I should go and have a lie down! ![]() |

My avatar is an element of my personality, and gives me the ability to let my inner child roam a bit, and experiences things missed or never had.

Mine is my insane mad inventor/builder side, how I would like to be in RL, except I keep changing my appearance regulary to anything but human.

Mine in SL is quite similar to my RL appearance, but a few years younger. I just cannot find the right "hair' but that is of little consequence. As far as the personality goes, the avatar is an almost complete extension to my RL self. The advantage to the SL "being" over the RL "me", is I have not allowed the avatar to experience my RL aches and pains.
A side note - I have a SL friend who is a really good scripter and builder. I have never seen him appear in the same form two days in a row. Quite entertaining, to say the least. _____________________

As with many other people, my standard AV is me as I was in my 20s, but a bit better looking and fitter. But he allows me to express aspects of myself that are difficult in RL, is far more confident and outgoing and when he changes into a non-human form allows me to be things I can never be in RL.

I've found that I'm more relaxed & outgoing in SL than RL, probably because of the relative anonymity it offers. What that says about my self-confidence could be a bit worrying. I look nothing like Kelli (except for being Caucasian & relatively slim).
My real surname (or a close approximation) recently became available, so I created an alt with my own name, and as close to my RL appearance as possible. Despite being even more anonymous, I'm far more reserved in that av than as Kelli. _____________________

I've found myself morphing my av into 'me circa 1990' only my hair would have been slicked back with Brylcreem as I was a fully paid up Bros boy (for those that remember Bros) although I find myself wearing the clothes that I wear today rather than rolled up blue jeans, black suede shoes with Grolsch bottle tops on the laces, white socks and a white t-shirt (he he he). With the exception of a pink dress shirt - I dont have one of them in RL (heaven forbid).
Personality is obviously me, but I generally dont walk into new pubs and shout "Hi everybody" as I walk through the door lol. I'm very shy these days in RL! I love the psychology of SL!!! _____________________

I´m ME, MYSELF and CEEJAY...
12-10-2007 00:58
My av is me as I truly wish to be in RL The looks are pretty similar but due to rl "rules" and circumstances I can´t express myself that much in rl... I wished I had my DE- and Dutch-Touch outfits in rl - not to talk about the awesome tats... ![]() When I look at my av I feel looking in a mirror of my innerself - feelings are not separated from my rl feelings... I´m ME, MYSELF and CEEJAY... OMG I wished I could be her all day and night... |

Claire is everything I am, everything I wish I could be and yet everything I am not. She is a way for me to be more confident, she looks good (to me) and has everything in her inventory I wish I could have lol.
![]() Claire is sweet and kind yet at the same time more adventurous and outgoing. She comes across as the girl next door and yet has hidden depths. And yes I am still speaking about my av lol. She is aspects of me. everything she does is something either I enjoy in RL or wish I could/would do in RL. Her personality is very similar to mine but she tends to be more confident. She is me and I am becoming more like her. Playing through her in SL has given me more confidence in RL. All this looks really wierd. I'm talking about my av in the third person which I never do. And it gets very very confusing because I made the mistake of using my first name lol. oh well... ![]() mornin everyone! ![]() _____________________

Visually, KK is about the same size as me, but curvier. Oh to be able to just move a couple of sliders in RL.
Personality wise, she is far more outgoing. And a lot cheekier. She says the things I think of in RL, but would never have the courage to say. A game of Truth or Dare over the weekend proved that for sure. She is more trusting of people, because the physical dangers of RL don't exist for her. She also despises social hierarchies and pecking orders. So she will actively distance herself from groups that rely on those structures to hold together. Largely because of this, she has a small group of very close, trusted and loved friends. Directly mirroring RL. But however much she tries, she still has her typist's insecurities. She still sometimes reads what people say wrongly, and gets emotionally hurt quite easily. Thus she avoids situations or people that could get to her. She sometimes looks in edit appearance to see if LL have added a 'hard bitch' slider, but not as yet. |

What a great topic! I am sure books are being written about it
![]() Well.. I always refused to use an improved version of myself as my avatar. I am not perfect in RL, noone is, but I accept that somehow. So the whole idea of a digital makeover didn't appeal to me. That's why I chose something completely different to represent me. Mona is probably a part of my childhood where I was playing with fluffy dolls (moslty animal characters on 2 legs), dressed them up, built my own world of imagination and invented crazy stories, sometimes alone, but most of the time together with other kids. The whole idea fits the concept of SL where we can be and do whatever we imagine. We can be kids again, with no limits, just the content is more mature. |

My avatar is just a tool, nothing more. It's just the means by which I interact with SL. It's not "me" or a "dark side" or "good side" or anything of the kind. It's just part of an interface. I have to agree with a lot of this...however, I change my AV quite a bit, and rarely keep the same look for long...and even more rarely am human in shape or look... My thought has always been: I can be ANYTHING!! So why not be something entertaining to everyone? So, I may be a tiger, or a crow, or a robot, or nothing but a shadow...perhaps a vampire or a plain human for kicks... The AV is subject to change. However, it's my personality guiding it. I've found some directions my Second Life can go that my First Life cannot...and, for that, I find myself extremely grateful. I am "me" in SL...just a whole lot more so! _____________________

My avatar is just pixelated marker...it doesn't exactly represent me physically, it just more of tool to explore another part of reality and the world.
I don't roleplay with my avatar. Being ill and home bound in real life though my avatar gives me opportunity to connect with people and situations I would never have contact with in real life. For me its only way to share my art and creative expressions with others. Second Life may actually help figure out way to hold done a job here where I can become more self-supporting but it may not. If nothing else it gives me a purpose and way to express parts of myself I don't have the same opportunities in my first life. _____________________

A Ture Virtual Resident
12-10-2007 04:21
I am the main character in a book my creator (RL person) wrote. When the book was finished, my creator was very sad that the adventure was over. When she heard of SL, she though it could be a perfect vehicle to elevate me from the pages of the book into this virtual world. And it has been a very positive adventure! What has been the most exciting part of my SL life is the fact that my creator had total control of the story line in the book. But here in SL, due to interacting with other Avatars, the story is always in a state of flux. Now,,,, if the Lindens could finally stabilize SL so we don't have to put up with Lag, TP failures and crashes,,, it would be a perfect experience!!!!

We're a composite.
I made Lindal's av as beautiful as I wish I were in RL (ah, vanity!), but thought that I'd otherwise play SL as "just me"...and then I discovered that what we call "personality" is not just the "inner you", or an aspect of the inner you. It's an amalgamation of your mind, your external appearance, how people react to those, and how you respond to them in return. At least, that's how it is for me. My av's appearance does have an effect on how I think, act, and respond to others. It's still mostly "just me"...but I can see differences, too, in Lindal and RL me. I like the me I am in Second Life. She's a better person, in some ways. She also manages to get herself into more trouble. ![]() _____________________

My avatars are characters in an ongoing, interactive storytelling process, and my Player is the storyteller, narrating what they do in response to a free-flowing series of interactive events. I have quite a few of them, and each plays a part in the roleplaying that I do. Ceera is the creative Business Vixen, who earns a good living in SL and provides for her household. Reisuki is Ceera and Mariko's daughter, for when I want to have our child present with us as part of the family. I have a male alt that is a builder and explorer, but I hardly ever switch genders to play him. Just doesn't feel right. *grins*
Are any of them "me"? Well, they all share my sense of honesty and courteous behavior. they are all literate and well-mannered. Some do things that my Player would never consider doing in RL. Some are obviously not my true gender, but I think I play the opposite gender pretty well, considering I have close friends who have played for years with some of those cross-gender alts, and haven't realised they are me! But each one has a unique personality and their own way of approaching the world. I developed them much as any author would develop the characters in a fiction story. Mickey Spillane wrote the lines for both the hard-boiled detective and the blonde bimbo in his stories. Neither was really him, but both came from his imagination. My characters are like that. Hopefully, fun to be with and entertaining or worthwhile to interact with. But they are all fictional. None are really 'me'. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

My avie doesn't look anything at all like me. More what I would have liked to look like when I was younger, but at this point, I'm resigned to my shape and height, which is on the short side for a woman. As far as her personality, it's mine, through and through. I'm a nice person in RL, but have learned to be a bit more outspoken than I used to be. And my avie is the same way. I have an alt, too, but I don't use her very often, and she looks nothing like me either. I'm far more attached to Sunni and view her more as "me". As far as what my avie is to me, she's my animated barbie doll. I love dressing her up, changing her hair and eyes, and have her looking as nice as she can, without being too slutty or overly classy, because neither one of those fits my personality, although both can to a small extent. She's also more creative than my RL self, because she has the tools and money available to her to be creative. In RL, my main hobby is reading, if you exclude my kids because they don't leave much time for any hobby. I just don't have the resources to be as creative as I would like to be in RL, so Sunni gets to do all of that for me.

I'd say my ava is me, but with a cuter nose. IE: I carry my morals into the game and frankly, would not use my avatar to do anything that I might become shamefaced about if my daughter found out...

She's me in personality...and when I choose she's as close to me in appearance as I can make her....but with much better hair that she can change on a whim. lol She is basically an adult version of a dress up doll that has a hell of a lot more fun than Barbie ever dreamed of. LOL SL for me is more about the visual expereince for me....but I am always 'me' when interacting with people.
