Your darks side, your good side, bad side, inner child inner devil. Closet slut, stripper, slave. Is your AV everything you want to be and aren't or everything you are? Is it you or an extension of you or a minisfestation of you? Your second personality?

me just younger and has the ability to change anything at a whim

I think the thing that makes the avatar is the personality not the visuality

From middle distance, me at about 17.

If only.

Other than that ... a manifestation of me. My personality, my thoughts, my interests and kinks. Just better looking.

Interesting question. I'd say she's the me that I would be if I had a broader budget, more free time, and could change my hair, nails, clothes, and shoes with a single click. ;P

Pretty darn close to what I was in my 20's, a bit glorified I admit. *sigh* wish I looked THAT good. She sure has better fashion sense than I did, but we do share the same fabulous hair (still!) Although, I would not be so stupid as to forget my panties and try and sit down in a too-short skirt thereby exposing myself for all to see (you had to be at the hangout the other day to understand) :D

Personality-wise, she's me all the way. When she speaks, I'm not pretending to be anyone else.

My avatar is just a tool, nothing more. It's just the means by which I interact with SL. It's not "me" or a "dark side" or "good side" or anything of the kind. It's just part of an interface.

yes =)

Furry me
Little kid me
Goth me
Geeky me
Professional me

just fun aspects, which may or may not get more play IRL, but they're all there. heck I can even play at things I'm not if they look fun/interesting.

In appearance, like me when younger, except a few more muscles. Like Chosen Few, for me just the means to interact with SL.

It's an idealized younger version of me - very much so. Oh I don't have the long hair anymore in real life because I can't get away with it in my office environment and at my age. I'd look like my own grandmother if I tried that now.

I do have other avs for different facets of my multi-faceted self, but I think they evolve toward the same old me too and I haven't wound up using them for anything "dark" or hedonistic. I think I have them because I've found avatar creation to be as fun as building, or more so.

My Avi is a adjunct to me. One with a smaller ass, a nicer personality and a wierd clothes shopping fetish.

First and foremost, my AV is an expression of my flexibility and creativity. Defining different looks, styles, and content for her is my outlet and my hobby. It is always just plain old me behind the words, but the looks quite often resemble my inner barbi/bitch/tease/angel/evil self and also tend to mirror my RL mood.

that's pretty much exactly how I see my avatar. I'm not an RPer. I'm just me. Most of the time I use an av that looks pretty much just like the RL me (with a better build, and different hair). When it doesn't look like me, it's still me sans affectations, with the exception of a couple of avs that lend themselves to particular schtick (like my ent's chronic fear of birds and lumberjacks). For the most part though, I'm the same me, RL or SL.

An avatar could be viewed as a complex cursor.

This presents an opportunity for a programmer to create cursors to replace the normal operating system cursors, 3D animated cursors that look like our SL avatars.

I bet someone would like it.

That made me think if anyone has an SL-look theme for Windows, Linux, or Mac OS.

My human avatar is an idealized version of my RL self as I cannot seem to be creative enuf to do anything else. It even bothers me if I wear blonde hair in SL!
But really like Chosen, an interface and a way to mark my spot in SL for people to interact with.

However, my dragon AV makes me feel wonderful..like I am in some magical story but she only comes out to be seen and appreciated and she doesn't speak.

Mine is also very similar to myself, just younger and cuter. I change my hair a lot in real life, though it's usually red and short, and my avie's is generally red and short, though sometimes blonde or black, and when long it's blue/black. My avie usually wears jeans and a t-shirt or a tank or sweater (like me.) She's kind of dull, doesn't make friends easily, is clueless on socializing, etc. If she wants conversation she goes to a coffee hangout.

I've tried to make alts and give them differerent personalities, but though they look different, I can't get out of my own mold.

I'd like to though.

Same here. I am totally detached from my avatar, it's just an 'interface'.
