Description: Shooting a Linden
Action taken: Warning issued. From the blotter. Well, I think there should be some sort of regulated season - for example, when the Lindens are in rut, we need to leave them be. It's nature's way, after all. But other times of year, it shoul be ok to shoot one. We could open up the bow hunting season first, then the muzzle loaders, and finally the rest of the rifle/machine gun/howitzer folks could blast away at what's left. I really think that LL could make some dough by selling Linden tags.

And hunting them in Linden Village would be like going on safari at the zoo. And then, what do you do with the carcasses? They hardly seem worth cleaning for that little meat, so do you really want a stuffed and mounted Linden head staring down at you from the walls of your library? Or a Lindenskin rug to trip over? And imagine the outcry if seen in public wearing a Lindenfur coat! /me considers a year-end donation to PETA. |

The mentors, who subsist on Lindens, are already lowing and restless because there aren't enough to go around. And some say that Lindens support not only the mentors and various subspecies of volunteers, but that they are essential to the continued existence of SL itself. We tamper with Virtual Nature at our peril. I'm not saying we should ban all Linden hunting. I enjoy taking a satisfying, meaty chunk out of the odd Linden myself every once in a while. And culling the herd to keep the overall population healthy and motivated is always a good thing. I'm just saying we need to proceed with caution.

Even Governor Linden made an appearance, but never moved or said anything. My suggestion that she was a Copybot met with a predictable response Good fun. Well, I was advocating sustainable Linden hunting, not wholesale slaughter. That's why you sell the tags. Maybe do a lottery like they do with large game in some states. That way you control the number of Lindens that are taken each year. I wish I'd been there when the shooting took place. The chat log was probably hilarious. Bang! Hey! Knock it off!
