/me really wanted to walk away from this sub-thread but...

I really think it would be better to report something like that to the Lindens. They are much better set up to collect a set of ARs and gather IP addresses and asset transfers and who's-been-where and all that stuff and send the bundle to the RL authorities, when it's appropriate.

It's popular around here to say that ARs never go anywhere and the Lindens don't care and etc, etc. They do take this particular set of stuff pretty seriously though.

And the FBI are the ones to get all that from the Lindens. When a child's safety is at stake I say report it to everyone.

edit: never mind.. This is why I originally asked this thread not get into a discussion about this. Do what you think is best, Kaimi.

SL is global - they will send it to whoever is appropriate.
True. I saw that mentioned in one of the official SAP blog entries. (^_^)

I've been orbited a couple of times but didn't AR. Didn't seem worth the time or trouble.

I AR'd a griefer who was harassing newbs at a welcome center once. That pissed me off. I haven't done so since. I figure if LL wants to continue seeing their retention rate sit in the toilet then that's their business not mine.

I AR'd an av once because he was griefing an entire sim. I'd call that more a heads up to LL than an AR though since you know there was never any intention of using that av again.

Those are the only two AR's I've done in world. Other than ad farmers. I went crazy on them and had fun the first couple of days after the rules changed. Not since though, LL has shown they are coming through on their plan and things are progressing nicely. Gotta give them time.

Here in the forums I think I AR'd Strife once for a direct racist comment made, but not sure. Plus one individual who was out of control inciting flame wars and being a troll. Since Strife has gone I've done a couple of AR's but it was more to try and communicate with a non existent moderator than an AR.

Child pornography...I'd go nuts. I can take about anything in the world til it comes to kids. I'd AR every day and have others do so as well til something was done.

End with my discussion of child porn. Simply said. No drama.

Whereas I can understand a "liberal" view of SL - and trust me, I do - I think the one category that I would file an AR on would also have to be child porn.

Thankfully, I've never encountered any.

And I don't believe I've ever AR'd anything in world otherwise...AV's, content, anything.

Most of the time, my response is to ignore annoyances...unless I think I'd like to shoot back when shot (no no no...I'd NEVER do that...however, if I ever had, I would have yet to see an AR against me in return...I never shoot first, but I try to shoot last)

(edit: okay, okay...I'll admit to shooting first once...but trust me, if you had been in my place, you would have too (defending a lady's honor)...and all I did was push, not orbit, so I'd say I showed restraint...)

Asking people in these forums if they frequently use AR's is like asking if water is wet. AR's have become a crutch for them. They AR everything and anything for any reason. Some of them have as many AR's filed as they do posts on these forums.

You are such a little troublemaker! I know, I shouldn't be surprised! ;)

Anyway, the question wasn't for you tell them how other people view it but how YOU view it. Ricardo, I don't think you are as bad as you pretend to be, but really........why speak for others?

I send ARs for IM spam direct to me. This has been 3 times in the past year.

I might AR for direct harassment in person inworld, but that hasn't happened to me since my first month or two on the grid, and one of those was 1 minute after I'd logged in for the very first time -- someone was pushing newbies off the cliff where we used to rez in for the very first time.

Ok. As much as I think it's pitiful that someone likes to bully newbies, I have to admit that would probably make me laugh. I'd still think they were pathetic individuals, of course, but it'd be funny to watch.

It almost reminds me of my favorite Welcome area game... I'll find a noobie sitting down on a bench or wall and sit next to him... [alt] click over his head and stare... and stare... and stare... and maybe add a headspin just for fun. My avatar and style makes that 100x scarier too. (^_^)y

(O_O) WOW! We're kinda in the same boat there. I'm sure we're not on the same level, but, yeah, I've seen the 'hidden' stuff around when I've been mapstabbing. (=_=)

I'm VERY open about my lolicon preferences. That, my avatar, and my choice of clothing leads some people to believe that I'm into hardcore SAP and trading CP inworld. I haven't ARed anyone on that yet, I don't keep what is being sent to me, but I've already heard of a friend of a friend lost to that exact activity. She picked the wrong person to send a totally ILLEGAL picture to. (T_T)

Please understand that if it really is a RL photo of a RL child, it is itself a crime, and it is hard evidence of crimes against the RL child - at the very least, endangering the morals of a minor, and possibly much, much worse. Not reporting it is like not reporting the evidence of any other vicious crime: If it is not on your conscience to fail to do something about it, there is something wrong with your conscience. Google Kitty Genovese sometime - it's not about child porn, but it is about not doing anything about a vicious crime, and maybe it will be enough to jog your conscience.

I've never seen anything I would consider ageplay, but I would report it or any sort of chold sexual content as fast as I could hit the buttons. I've only filed on AR in all the time I've been on SL, and that was for an object on a parcel that was spamming particles across the sim - basic griefer stuff. I didn't care so much about the person who placed it getting in trouble because I figured it was a throw-away alt of some griefer, but I AR'ed it so someone would come get rid of it.

I've been caged and set on fire a few times, but I haven't AR'ed it. I just dealt with it and moved on. No biggie. I got threatened with one once when I accidentally crashed into someone's house with my biplane. Sim crossing - no controls, I ended up in her yard. As I was climbing out and picking up the plane, she started reading me the riot act in chat. I apologized, told her I was just taking my stuff and leaving and I didn't mean to be there, and she was having none of it.

I kind of wish she had AR'ed me. Maybe the Lindens would have contacted me and I could have told them that it never would have happened if they would have given us stable sim border crossings.

As for ARs, I am one of Ricardo's people who have filed more ARs than posts on this thread.

Well, not really, but I maintain an anti-griefer alt and I spend a lot of time in public sandboxes, which are griefer magnets. If I am griefed, I usually AR immediately because some griefers love to file false ARs against people who defend themselves from the griefing - and I choose to defend myself. That way, LL sees there are two sides to whatever story they tell.

I also AR TOS violations I consider bad for SL - sim-crashing attacks, griefing newbies, setting out gaming devices in the sandboxes, setting out obvious scam devices, etc.

I stopped counting the number of griefer ARs in sandboxes alone I have filed when it reached 200 - and that was a while ago. Nor am I the only one. Since I've been on my little personal anti-griefer crusade, I've noticed a substantial dropoff in griefing of places where I go looking for them - especially the kiddie griefers with their cages and other freebie nuisances. I like to think I had something to do with that dropoff.

This is not out of vindictiveness, really. It is more in the spirit of someone posting himself around his farm with a .22 rifle, picking off vermin, because it's necessary. I don't AR the small stuff - name-calling, cuss words, nudity or 3-ft. dongs in PG areas, or any of the other juvenile stuff that goes on. Or even ad farms (I leave that to those affected by them.). But something that hurts SL, including stuff likely to drive newbies away - in a heartbeat, just before dropping a hammer myself.

Yeesh - ever play F.E.A.R.? That little girl scared the holy living bejeebers out of me. I swear, I actually got a sick feeling in my stomach when I thought she was about to show up. I wanted to turn off the computer whenever the screen started flickering. I've played every major FPS on the market and that's the only one that's ever truly freaked me out. It wasn't the monsters or aliens or enemy soldiers, it was that damn little girl.

Welcome to "AR Anonymous." Well, not really anonymous but we won't tell.

I'm proud of you, you've taken your first step in admitting what you do.

Ok, anyone else? How about you, Bracken? Step forward and just say I'm an AR junkie. It will soothe your souls people and you'll feel better too. Come on now.

Don't sweat it. I kept hearing about all these AR's that I posted a thread in the forums asking if I was doing something wrong. I thought maybe I was being too laid back and AR's were the norm. Was glad to hear that wasn't the case. Some are just more trigger happy than others.

Can we not turn this into a thread on child pornography? Please?

I blame the ad-farming, gambling furry Gorean vampires with free accounts, and the Lindens working on shiny instead of bug-fixes.
