new policy for furries?

somewher I saw mention of a new policy that is supposed to make all furry avatar have to be on paid accounts or something

anyway it is supposed to take effect in september

does anybody know anything about this new policy?
I can't find anything about it on the site and I want to know whats really goin on here.

Sounds like someone's confused you about the new adult content rules.

Are you hanging out in a sim that is switching over to Adult rating next week? Furnation, perhaps? I think they're only switching over some of the sims with adult clubs and stores in them.

I call shenanigans on that one. It's preposterous and entirely unenforceable.

That would be both bizarre and unenforceable. Like making vampires only log on after dark or something. Nah, someone is messing with you.

What probably happened, is that whoever it was, was referring to some furry themed sim/business/avatar-shop/club/hangout that is being switched to "Adult only".. which will require you to "adult verify" your SL account to go there (easy as giving Linden Lab your paypal email address.. don't even have to give any money!) From a shopping perspective, it can be very frustating to want to go buy a furry avatar, and run into a "you must be adult verified" brick wall.

The person who told you this may have been frustrated. So they might have exagerrated a bit, like saying something like:

"Gosh, it's getting to the point that you can't even *BE* a furry without verifying your account and giving payment info"

Well, if you were a NAKED furry . . . or a shaved one, maybe . . . you'd have to be in an adult sim, right? And so, be age-verified.

#1 reason to get your male dog fixed: when it gets all excited, and . . . well, eww.

But I'm sure that YOUR furry isn't like that, right?

Is a fur without apparel naked? Some furs look "decent" without apparel, whereas others... not so much. Do adult content rules apply to naked furry parties where there is no sexual activity?

Well here's your answer. Make all humans grow fur. And in SL you can do this. Nudity problem solved.

Applique tattoos on fur just look wrong to me.

By and large it was an experiment, and I do not completely disagree with you.

If it has nipples, probably.

Among most furries that I know, the accepted rule is that you are not "Naked" if you don't have exposed nipples or aroused genitalia. Some would argue that a male furry who is not aroused, but who obviously has a sheath and testicles, either is or is not "naked". Debatable. Furry sims that are rated PG usually seem, in my experience, to go with a rule of either requiring clothing, or requiring that the furry have no nipples or genitalia visible. Like Bugs Bunny when he isn't clothed in a cartoon.

Ceera is a Furry, but tends to wear clothes almost all the time. That is because she was born Human, and transformed later, so she retains a Human woman's preference to wearing nice looking clothes.

If I am in a quad animal form, I don't wear clothes. Neither does my dog in Real Life.

As to the OP's rumor, I think someone is either pulling his leg, or trying to stir up trouble. I won't worry about that until I see laws passed in RL that require Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Road Runner, Bugs Bunny and Foghorn Leghorn cartoons to only be sold in Adult Bookstores...

PS: I think I like the defining characteristic of a truly naked fur to have nipples and/or erect genitals. That does make sense. Thank you for answering my actually serious (gasp, it happens on occasion) question.
