My RLifer lives in an area where she has no choice but to be on radio connection from one specific provider . . with a download limit and huge excess charges .
. . . however . . luckily that particular provider does not meter downloads from SL . .

So . . if she uses the Emerald viewer will the downloads then be metered ?
. . or is she still actually dowloading from SL ?

The bandwidth used to download the Emerald viewer installer itself will most likely count against your friend's bandwidth but the bandwidth used accessing SecondLife itself should be seen by your provider as being no different regardless of which viewer you connect with so I'm assuming based on the information provided that actual time spent in world will be unmetered.

I came and left from the latest Emerald. The FPS has vastly improved since I last ran it and the client side AO is a great idea... But...

I don't care about the paranoia plugins. All that mess with Show Look At, the radar, de-friend notification, and such just gives me more information than I want to know. And, I weep for the person who feels the "need" to gather all that information about their surroundings. (=_=)

The AO is a great idea... If it worked. Yes, I know how to set the animations and the notecard and I got it to walk, pose, run, and fly just fine. But, I don't run a sit pose. I like chairs to have their own. But, I've found that if I sit on a poseless chair (the kind I use 90% of the time) animations get seriously borked. (=_=)

BLING! Yes, I'm saying it... Those stupid looking customized select particle trails are just bling. Friends don't let friends bling. In fact, I like the ~other~ feature... The ability to turn ALL selection trails off. Happy clean screen for me at the time. (^_^)

RLVa... What the heck is RLVa? What does the "a" stand for and why do most compatible RLV attachments break when running in RLVa? Guh... FAIL! (>_<;)

Client tag ID. Yet another "Cool Kids" option, like select train bling. I didn't like all the distracting and oversized green nametags with (Emerald) as if it's a secret sorority handshake. I get the feeling people get a little 'beam' or pride when they see that they're in the "in" crowd with their green tags on that the l4m3rz don't have. =^-^=

Plus.. Since Boy Land did a new compile of Cool Viewer with full Adult additions, even less lag, and RLV 1.22... I went back to that client. (^_^)y

/me falls over and drops dead by breaking her neck.... I and Immy totally think alike on this one.

Im seeing inworld harrasment beginning of those with emerald and those not on it. So as far as I am concerned i feel its just one more tool thats driving a wedge into SL. Ive begun banning the use of emerald on my sims that rp and require everyone to use the same thing. It does no good to have your (insert extra thing here) lying about on the floor in the next room when its supposed to be the center of attention.

And as far as the antiprofile readers go, those just really reek of immaturity. pffft... If I want to read your PUBLIC profile I will. If you have something to hide I have a tip for you. DON'T put it in ypur profile then tard!....

anyways..
I have it (GE) as an option to use when needed but ive found the double click to tp a bit annoying as its been triggered a few times at the worst moments. I use the older Hippo viewer yet and find it runs smoother cooler and without all that fanfare and glitz of throwing raygun beams all over. *thanks for the tip to turn those dumb things off)

that is all.
didnt spell check -- i assume PeP will do it for me.

edit pause....
you know if this keeps it up, this 'OMFG YOUR LOOKING AT PROFILE' and more carp keeps going, Sl will soon be that fictional Burka wearing place as no one wants to share anything.

And that would be sad.

You might take a look at Henri Beauchamp's latest version of the Cool Viewer. That's got the double tap TP and radar, too (as, I think, has Meerkat). http://sldev.free.fr for Cool Viewer; http://www.meerkatviewer.org/ for MeerKat.

Tried the Cool Viewer but SL will not load I get error missing file.
Had to locate the Cool Viewer delete and uninstal SL and download SL again.
Is there a stand alone download of the Cool?

The Meerkat is stand alone like SL, Emerald and is running, but it takes ages to Rez a location, SL and Emerald only took a very short time. I can see it has some features of Emerald like the double click to move but like Emerald has lower fps than SL, but maybe just a couple more than Emerald. Can't see the Radar and Boobie movement features.

Is there anyone else not getting a background image on Emerald login page?
11-19-2009 16:08
For reason, I have stopped getting the background image on the Emerald login page. I keep clicking the "Turn BG Image ON" and nothing happens.

How do I fix this?

The idea with Cool Viewer is that first you install SL from the link on the CV site to make sure it's the version he compiled it for, and then run the CV installer, which installs the needed CV files on top of it.

If that doesn't work, probably best to do a clean install -- uninstall SL completely and reinstall it and then CV. But it's normally happy to install over an existing installation. It doesn't have the jiggly boobs, I regret to say.

too bad it takes 10 times the time snowglobe needs to rez a place, and often never loads a texture until you put your mouse pointer on it -.-

edit: i only use emerald for the free texture uploads, everything else i do in snowglobe, because it loads (much) faster and gives me much more fps (around 120 in my skybox with everything on max, without shadows, around 45 fps with shadows, i never got that in emerald or LL client, around 20 % faster for me)

my shop loads within 20-30 seconds in snowglobe, and takes 5 minutes and some mouse pointing in emerald with nothing cached, if i cached my shop it takes 3-4 seconds in snowglobe ^^

I had the same issues on my computer. With the latest updates all three viewers seem to load about the same for me, FAST. Standing in the same spot where the others get a steady 70 FPS Emerald bounces between 50 and 80.

I have the latest up to date Linden Viewer from SL web site.

PS to those that get 120 fps or even the 20% less all I can says is WOW!
Linden Sl gives me 10 fps in a crowed place, Meerkat 6fps and Emerald 3/4fps.
Best I ever get from SL viewer is 25/30 fps. Graphic card Nvidia Geforce 7600GS and I have 12Mb broadband speed. Is SL slower for me because I'm in the UK a long way away?

I think you might consider upgrading your graphics card. I'm in the UK with a 10Mb broadband connection and an Nvidia 9600GT and I get about 30fps on Emerald in crowded places and about 60 or 70 somewhere like my building platform.

Recently I had to use an older PC with a 7600GS while my main one is in for repairs, and had similar framerates to yours on all the newer viewers. However, when I installed the 1.19.1 viewer (last pre-Windlight one) from the Cool Viewer site, I was back up to reasonable levels.

A 7600GS really isn't that suitable for the newer viewers, I'm afraid.

It will not effect your FPS. It will however take you a bit longer to up/download packets.
Try going to http://www.speedtest.net/ and running a couple of tests to severs close to your home town and then run a test with the San Francisco server. You'll see a huge impact on data transmission time.

The numbers you're stating sound about right for that card. The good news is ummmm welll should I mention that a 20% stable OC is pretty standard for that card?

No. I shouldn't. OCing can harm your hardware.

Been messing a bit this morning.
Tried a PC with a Nvidia 9600GT PCIe in and I went to a place where just me and not much built it gave 31/32 fps 140/150 ping.
Then used the PC with Nvidia 7600GS AGP and got same results.
Also located a HD3850 supposed to be best AGP card, that gave 14 fps with the 150 ping.
(Now it was a nightmare finding a driver for that. ATI do not do universal drivers like Nvidia do, they leave it to the indevidual makers to do thier own. Nvidia controll thier Drivers all numbers in the series appear to have same driver and PCI and AGP the same too. Not the case with ATI Radeon they seem not to care. Anyway if anyone using a HD3850 AGP and know the best driver I would appreciate the web site info. I'm rather impressed with the driver service from Nvidia, and would in future keep clear of ATI/Radeon.

Be happy with what you've got and tell leery-eyed men to bog off.

Wow, did I really say that? I sound liek a bitch.

You have something set wrong. If it's turned off, it doesn't produce any annoying "encryption garbage".
It does that when you used Emerald, IM with someone else using OTR, and then later log in using the normal viewer. The other Emerald gets all confused. But, it's easily fixed at the Emerald end, once the IM sender figures out what's going on. The IM receiver receives garbage and can't reply (or something like that, I don't recall all the details).

From: LittleMe Jewell
This is the part that has me confused. There were comments in another thread that said the shape loss was because the jiggle code was dynamically changing your gravity definition of your shape. However, that makes no sense as far as me seeing others bounce.
It's changing THEIR gravity values in YOUR viewer. Actually, it's changing everyone's, but only in your viewer.

Can I watch too?

Oh, damn, Emerald hangs on my computer. I hope they answer my bug report. (It hangs waiting to read client_list.xml from the modularsystems site.)
